Late Night Porridge OK Dec 11, 2015
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood

There's something about a bowl of porridge that is super comforting. It can be those flavoured one with meat or preserved eggs, or the teochew style where its just plain porridge with side dishes. That too is super good which I love having especially late at night.

Which is why Onn Kee's is a great place to have some midnight munchies. All you do is ask fr a bowl of white porridge for each person, then order dishes to go with.

The first dish that was ordered is half a steamed chicken. There really isn't anything to shout about because it just tastes like the kind you can get at any chicken rice shop, only you have this with porridge instead. I'm not the biggest fan of chicken so this wasn't my preference really.

For vegetables we ordered the Stir-Fried Paku with Belacan. This was again mediocre at best but that's only cause the sauce wasn't really what we expected when we asked for belacan. It was powdery & mostly just salty without any other flavour. Though I guess if you eat this dish with the plain porridge then it's pretty alright.

The star of the night for me was the black dace braised pork ribs. This dish was super flavourful and the sauce was good especially mixed into the plain porridge. Then the meat was nicely tender so each bite was soft and juicy.

Big Head Prawns OK Dec 04, 2015

After a little pampering session with my mom & her friends, one of them decided to bring us to Dengkil for some good food. Apparently she's been here before and quite like the food that they serve although it is a little far from where we were. Since we had time to spare, we drove there in the hot weather and expected some really good food.

Braised bittergourd was one of the first order. This is not a personal favourite of mine although everyone else at the table loved it. The vegetable was meltingly tender and soft with quite a nice flavour with the fried dried shrimps. It came recommended.

Then because they know that this is my favourite, we ordered two rolls of Lobak. This arrived at our table scorching hot as it came right out of the fryer. Although it seemed promising, this was mediocre at best and I did not like the popiah skin that was used to wrap around the meat inside. Only so-so.

Then as an added treat for the day, we also ordered some Har Lok but with big head prawns. Although I was not that pleased with the kind of sweet and sour sauce that it was cooked in, the seafood however was very fresh. The meat was juicy & succulent plus there was plenty of nice roe in the head. Good but taste wise not the best either.

Tapas OK Nov 25, 2015

I've recently learned that Spanish style dining revolves quote a lot around Tapas style dining. Just like how we chinese/asian have variety of dishes to be shared, so do they only in different kind of flavours. My first time trying Tapas style dinner was at La Bodega.

The Deep Fried Goat's Cheese caught my attention. Honestly there's nothing more satisfying and indulgent other than fried cheese that's super melty & creamy on the inside while remaining super crisp outside. Although there was only three pieces, I find it just enough because anymore than would have just left me feeling sick.

While the cheese was nicely salty, there was some sort of citrusy honey drizzled over it. So this gives an added sweetness so the fried cheese isn't one dimensional in taste.

To share, I got the Linguine Alfredo with beef bacon. This was oddly like carbonara except it is more cheesy in flavour rather than cream. I quite like it especially with the crispy bits on the top and the pasta was just nicely al-dente.

However after two or three bites I was quite done with this because it was just too creamy. So I was quite jelak after that and full after the cheese then another creamy + cheesy dish.

There are so many things on the menu that I wanted to try, so I'll definitely be back for those. Plus I like the ambience at La Bodega, especially in the eveningwhen the weather isn't so very hot.

Burgers OK Nov 24, 2015

Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Bar & Pub | Burgers / Sandwiches | Group/Family dining

It's been quite some time since I last visited Publika but I do enjoy going there just for the food. Although there isn't much to shop there except for when there is some bazaar or some event going around there. However I do like that I am quite spoiled for choice when it comes to eating.

That day, I was feeling like some burger and finally brought myself to try FatBoy's burger. Sometime back this place was all the hype & people would have to line up for a long time just to try their 'famous' burgers. Though the place was pretty empty when I visited for lunch that day which is kind of odd but also good for me cause no waiting time.

I ordered the simple Fat Bastard that comes with a side of fries & also some lettuce and tomato. The fries was larger than regular fast food joint ones but it was more soggy than there were any crisp - also tasted like it's been fried an hour back then kept heated. Not salted enough so it was slightly bland but I made due with some dipping condiment. The burger, it's good. But then there really isn't nothing to shout about cause this tasted just like a regular cheese burger to me. I didn't like that the bun was not toasted enough so it was just soft & slightly soggy after a while. However the meat was pretty good because it's nicely marinated and the cheese slice was quite nice.

Though I don't think I'd go back again for another because it isn't exactly the cheapest. For the same price I can get an even better burger set elsewhere. But I'm glad that I tried though.

Butter Chicken  OK Nov 23, 2015

Categories : Malaysian variety | Western variety | Restaurant | Pizza/Pasta | Steaks / Chops | Special Occasion Dining

Went visiting a friend that stays around that area and told them that I was craving for some good butter chicken. It's the food that I often times find myself hungry for but then rarely ever find something to satisfy that craving. So they attempted to try by bringing me to Decanter.

No surprise that I ordered myself a plate of Butter Chicken with Rice set. Actually it wasn't bad because the sauce is really creamy but had a hint of spiciness to it from the chilli that they add to it. The chicken was also nicely crunchy from being deep fried before hand so it goes really well when it's coated with the thick butter sauce.

The only downside is there isn't enough of the sauce, even though I told them three times when I placed my order to have more.

My friend ordered the Nasi Lemak that comes with a chicken. Currently cannot remember if it was fried chicken or rendang, but it is one or the other. I tried the rice with the sambal and found this quite good because the rice was very nicely fragrant. Plus the sambal had some really good spice to it but not just spicy in flavour with a hint of sweetness.

A pretty chill place to dine at and will probably be back for more of the butter chicken when I find myself around the area with a strong craving for it. The sauce is good enough to have me going back - only wish they'd give more of that than the rice on my plate.
