Girl's night. Cry Sep 05, 2015

Since it was a Friday night and my friend wanted to spend some time together at a nice restaurant. With that in mind, we decided to brave the KL traffic and headed straight for KLCC and went straight to Chinoz which had been renovated a year or two ago with a whole new menu.

And once we were at the entrance, we were greeted by staffs who were very polite and also attentive, if not a little too much so at certain times. It was a little after dinner time so the crowd was next to minimal so the ambience wasn't too crowded or noisy, almost borderline overly romantic with the dim lighting.

But we proceeded to order our food as we had been starving. Not too pleased with what we were seeing on their mains, we decided to order their appetizers as tapas style instead so we can share and try many different things.

A favourite of ours, we decided to get the Lamb Meatballs cooked in Tomato Ragout. It comes with a side of toasts to dip into the sauce.

But for the price that we paid that night, this dish was a big disappointment. Although the meat was soft and tender there was also a lack in seasoning, plus resembled quite like pre-bought rather than in-house made. Plus the sauce was not well seasoned so we weren't a fan of this plate very much.

This second dish which was also another big big disappointment was the Bruschetta with Aubergine, Spinach and Feta Cheese. The combination sounded heavenly as it had all of my favourite ingredients.

But the bread was soggy as if it wasn't toasted, aubergine & spinach mixture was very oily plus was super desperate for some seasoning and all around bad. We both took one bite of our bread and turned our noses from it for the entire night. Surprisingly enough, something so easy could also be such a failure.

Safe to say these two dishes really needs to be worked on because they were not cheap and could be gotten much better elsewhere without such a steep price tag on it.

Lunch for one Cry Sep 02, 2015

One day after a business meet-up with a client, I decided to take a moment out of my workday to have lunch on my own at Ben's. It had been a long while since my last visit to the restaurant so I thought why not indulge in a nice plate of pasta for the day.

As always I was greeted with the restaurant manager that led me to my table almost instantly. I asked for a nice quiet corner where I can enjoy my latest read while I dined and thankfully the man was accomodating. Something I really like about Ben's is that the staff (based on my visits) have been polite and friendly which puts me in a good mood to enjoy the food.

Once I sat down, I took a glance through the simple menu and placed my order within a minute. Before I entered the restaurant, I already knew what I wanted which was my favourite order of Pesto with Spaghetti.
Watery and bland

Watery and bland

A simple plate of pasta was priced at Rm20.90. An option of grilled chicken breast is available but I decided to just have this without the protein.

From the previous time I had this dish, I remember it being very nicely creamy without being too cloying and incredibly flavoursome. The in-house made pesto was very fragrant. However I was slightly disappointed by my current trial as the entire dish lacked the punch that came with a strong pesto and it was not creamy. In fact, watery would be the correct way to describe my plate of spaghetti.

I assume that this time around, a pre-made pesto was used which explained the lack of oomph and also blandness.

Although I had my fix of carbs like I initially wanted, I was left disappointed as it was no longer the same plate of Pesto spaghetti that I was craving for. Though the price is reasonable, I feel like the taste left little to be desired of my meal so I did not finish it. Which is a surprise for a pasta lover like myself.

Spending per head: Approximately RM25

Disappointing Cry Aug 26, 2015

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Café | Pizza/Pasta | Burgers / Sandwiches

Several years ago, Delicious Cafe was my go-to place for good food that is somewhat affordable and also a nice place to enjoy a meal.

However recently I found that the change in management resulted in a lot of changes, particularly the menu, price and also quality. Not to mention that the service has also seriously been lacking each visit.

A business lunch brought me back to this place and regardless of the disappointing meals before, I went in with an open mind. With hope that things have been resolved and the kitchen is once again serving good food, we placed our orders with a less than helpful waitress.

That was a point minus for the restaurant almost immediately as the service put me off my lunch. But still I anticipated for the arrival of my food.
Mediocre

Mediocre

A go to order of mine is the Aglio Olio with Seafood which is an additional Rm12.70 on top of the regular priced Rm20.40. It was more expensive than I remember but taking into consideration that 6% GST is included and the rise in market, the price was perhaps acceptable.

The pasta however did not wow me - no surprise as it is not possible to mess up something this straightforward. However, this was mediocre at best and for that price, I am pretty sure I could definitely get something much better elsewhere.
Overpriced and lack lustre

Overpriced and lack lustre

Another order of entree which we asked for was the Teriyaki Salmon Steak with Soba Noodles and Baby Asparagus priced at Rm48.40. The noodles were rather bland, although the fish was nicely seasoned and thankfully not overcooked.

Once again, nothing to shout about which is disappointing especially with the price tag. Although the salmon steak was acceptable in size for someone with a regular appetite. However for anyone else, it would most definitely not be enough to fill them up.
Bland. Watery and soggy.

The most disappointing dish of the day would definitely be the Crab & Avocado salad with spicy Tomato dressing. Priced at Rm34.45, definitely too expensive to pay for a dish of salad. It sounded amazing as it had everything that I liked. But unfortunately the picture looked more appetitizing than the actual dish itself.

Crab tasted more like the ranch/mayonnaise it was mixed with. Honestly I hardly bite down on any as it was more 'sauce' than actual meat. The avocado was bland and severely lacking from the dish and everything else was just mediocre. Plus the spicy tomato dressing was so watery that it soaked eveyrthing, including the two piece of cold toast that came with the dish.

Overall, another disappointing meal at Delicious Cafe, Bangsar. I left feeling completely unsatisfied and slightly frustrated as we paid so much for a meal that was not at all up to par.

Weekend Brunch  OK Jan 29, 2016
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood | Noodles | Yong Tau Fu

For weekend brunch, my uncle brought the family to have brunch in Kuchai Lama. Well I went along since I had an appointment with my chiropractor there anyway and free food so there's no complains from me. At first I thought we were going for our usual dim sum fix, however he brought us here for something new.

As a staple hakka dish, the abascus yam is a must order. However this was only so so and I personally do not like it because we've had better elsewhere. The little balls were so stodgy that after eating two piece left me feeling so heavy.

We also ordered this dish where it's just stir-fried pork intestines with stomach. This was actually pretty good and honestly the only thing out of everything else we ordered that I liked. Definitely worth the order if intestines are your thing.

As fir everything else like the hokkien mee and yong tau fu, honestly think they are mediocre at best. However it is still nice but nothing to shout about.

Thai dinner  OK Jan 27, 2016
Categories : Thai | Restaurant | Seafood | Noodles

I was genuinely craving for some good Thai food and so was the best friend. Since we wanted to get some drinks around the area and this was the best option, we went to My Elephant for some good grubs.

For starters we got their mixed platter set that comes with fried fish cakes and also spring rolls. I was quite excited for this except there really wasn't anything much to shout about as this dish was mediocre at best. However the spring roll and the sauce was quite good.

And because I like veggetables, we also got the belacan fried kangkung. Again I was quite disappointed by what I was getting because this dish was only so-so. For the price I was paying at MyElephant, you'd think it would taste better with less oil. In fact I think I can get better kangkung at local zi char restaurant.

However the meal was made up with the Green Curry Chicken. Although this was not as creamy as I would have personally preferred, the flavours were good and there's a good hint of spice. I could finish the whole bowl of it myself easily.

Unfortunately I feel like the standards has dropped just a little bit. Though I hope that it was just a bad night or something.
