Dim sum and then some, Smile Feb 11, 2016

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Dim sum | Porridge | Private Party

Once again the sister and myself managed to convince my mother to bring us to our favourite Dim Sum joint. Which took a little while because whenever we ate there we often times over indulge and end up leaving feeling super stuffed. But in a good way.

This time my first order was the braised pork ribs with black dace. This was AMAAAAZING! The flavours was strong from the garlic, dace and also all the magical seasoning that goes into this dish. The pork was tender and super well marinated. We had to order a second basket of this cause one just wasn't enough since I could easily finish one myself.

My sister however went for this xiao long baos. Although they weren't as good as the ones we get from Dragon-I, these were delicious too. The meat was tender and each little dumpling was filled with enough soup for us to be happily slurping at it once it was cool enough. Add a little vinegar and ginger then this will be a perfect mouthful.

For my mother, she ordered this giant fish balls which were actually better than I thought. Usually I never go for fish balls of any kind cause they're just too pasty for me. However these were nicely juicy & crunchy which was exactly what my mother likes.

We also got an order of Lao Sa Pao which was MINDBLOWING. The first bite and you get a rush of the custardy inside which was super creamy plus has a strong salted-egg-yolk taste. HEAVENLY. Never can we get the same kind anywhere else.

I don't know why but I was strongly craving for some good comfort food. Actually I think I was just strongly craving for the super yummy food we can get at Sam's so we got dressed and drove all the way out to Damansara just to dine there. Thankfully it was rather empty on a weeknight or else we'd be waiting a while to get served and I was already starving by then.

My immediate order was the mutton curry with a side of toast. I am pretty sure the last time we dined there they offered some naan or pita bread, but this time they said that there isn't such thing. Weird but that didn't stop me from dipping my hot toast into the super thick & flavourful curry, then happily eat the tender and succulent mutton pieces. Its so so sooooo good especially on a cool night.

As always we have to order a serving of the grilled chicken leg. I've already raved about this in my previous review so I'm not going to talk too much about it. But this is absolutely positively delicious. Enough said.

That night we got something new to try which is the grilled lemon sole and it was pretty amazing. The fish was nicely grilled with good seasoning and the side vegetables was AMAZING! Cause they were stir-fried with lots of garlic and butter so it was super flavourful.

It's jsut awesome how the food at Sam's never disappoint. Plus the price is not too exurbent which means you won't have to worry about overspending and still receive good sized portions.

Stuffed Chillis Smile Feb 11, 2016

With free time, we were once again back at our favourite restaurant and this time we brought the grandparents with us. They were rather grumpy about how far this place was from their home however things changed once they tried the food.

Although I'm not very good with spice despite how much I like it, we ordered many of these stuffed green chillies with fish paste. This is super yummy because the fish paste is nice & chewy and the chillies are sweet. However it gets rather spicy near the stem which gives a super big punch that have you downing a whole glass of cold water.

Then like always, we got the plate of steamed minced pork with prawn paste. This was delicious especially over a nice bowl of hot white rice, plus ladling a little of the gravy over. It even got a stamp of approval from my rather fussy grandfather.

This time we ordered something new which has immediately become a favourite of ours. We got the braised hairy cucumber with fried baby shrimp and this was super yummy. Just scooping a big serving of this and putting it over my rice was comforting enough. I had such a nostalgic feeling just eating it like that.

All the food is soooo good that the drive down didn't even matter. :3

Dinner with the girls Smile Feb 11, 2016

For another girl's night only dinner with my best friend, we found ourselves trying out this new joint in town. It was rather difficult to find but the ambience is quite nice once we were inside. Although the outside looks rather dodgy, do not be fooled by that as Black Market has a rather classy interior.

To share we ordered the rather popular oven baked pork ribs that was coated in a super thick black pepper sauce. I liked this because it was different than the usual sweet and smokey barbeque sauce which I never really liked. Plus the meat was incredibly tender that it near fell off the bone and yet had a nice crust on the outside. Though the side salad was disappointing.

Another main we ordered to share was the prawn baked over rice with cream sauce and cheese. I had picked this because the picture was hella alluring so I got it however it was a little disappointing when it arrived. The prawns were nowhere as big as I expected and definitely not worth the steep price tag it came with. Even if the cream sauce was super decadant and yummy baked over the rice.

Personally I feel like the food here is a hit or miss. However if you're looking for a nice night out and want to splurge a little, then definitely give Black Market a try.

First try Smile Feb 11, 2016

This was my first visit to the Ming's Room which was highly recommended by my mother. Apparently she's had business meeting's there before and loved the food, so she brought my sister & I there for brunch that weekend. No surprise that it was filled with lots of people since it was the weekend.

My favourite was the char siew pao. The bun was super soft and fluffy plus nicely hot from being steamed for the right amount of time. Then the inside was super good as the pork was nice & juicy plus the sauce tasted just right. I loved it so much that we had to order another basket cause I wanted more.

And another favourite of that day was these pork ribs. Although it wasn't as good as the ones I could get at Jin Xuan, these were infinitely better than any we can get elsewhere. The meat was succulent and tender plus the sauce was nicely flavoured. I just wish it had more garlic & black beans to give it an extra ooomph.

Then we also got the steamed pork siu mai which was also really good. It was bigger in size than other regular places which is understandable considering that the prices here was also slightly higher. Though completely worth it!

We should have ordered more but we did not want to be overly greedy like always. Now I can't wait to be back just for the pao.
