Simple Seafood Smile Jan 05, 2016

There was one day where all I could think about throughout the entire day was salted egg yol crab. Coincidentally my mom was in a good mood and was at the office, so she decided to go to Pantai Seafood for some good crab. Its her favourite place for seafood and I rarely had a preference, all I wanted was my salted egg yol laden crab.

A favourite of my mom's is the stir-fried bee hoon. Actually it is quite good because there's very good 'wok-hei' in this dish plus a lot of ingredients in it too.

We also got two portions of steamed tiger prawns. This is something I enjoy a lot because the crustaceans were alive just moments ago and then taken from the tank, then cooked to our liking. So this means the prawns are super fresh, juicy and succulent. A clear way to tell if it's fresh is when you eat the head and it tastes really good, something I enjoyed more than actually having the flesh.

Finally our order of crab arrived. So the kind we got at Pantai Seafood isn't exactly big in size however it was very fresh as the meat was tender and very sweet, seperates easily from the shell too. I had such a good time devouring this dish down to the very last bits of salted egg yolk. Everyone loved this and was tempted to order another dish of it but we were already full by then.

Penang food in KL Smile Jan 04, 2016

Chew Jetty is my boss' favourite place to go to when he feels like having something local. At least to him anyways since he was born and raised in Penang so he prefers flavours that are more in tuned to that part of the country. Sometimes for lunch we would venture over there for some good old noodles.

However my favourite happens to be the deep friend lobak.

You can either order one roll or the set which comes in threes. This is super good because it is fried to order, so it arrives to your table super hot and crunchy. The filling is also pretty nice without it being flour-y or bland tasting. Plus the wrapping is always seasoned nicely and there is a good ratio of meat to wrapping.

I can eat all three of this myself especially when dipped in the chilli belacan that they have. Try the noodles as well because they are pretty good and expect it to be quite busy during lunch time as this place is rather popular.

For Pork Lovers Smile Jan 04, 2016

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles

If there are any out there that absolutely adores any dish that involves pork, especially super succulent and tender pork meat, then Champ Kitchen is definitely the place to go to. Where their meats are usually braised for no less than 24 hours and provide very home-styled cooking, this is the restaurant that you want to visit to get your meat fix.

The one thing that they are very famous for is the braised pork shoulder that usually comes in one long log simmering in a claypot. However that is enough to feed a table of at least eight people, so for only three to four companies you can opt for half of the shoulder portion.

The meat apparently is braised for 72 hours which is why it is meltingly tender and also super flavourful. Having this with the sauce doused over a bowl of hot rice is super comforting however not exactly ideal for those that are watching their diet, being the new year and all.

Because I saw this on the menu and it is my absolute favourite, we also ordered the braised pork belly with preserved vegetable. Although all you see is one slab of meat plus a lot of the vegetables and sauce, rest assured that the size of meat is bigger than what you would expect.

However I am not quite into the taste of this as I am more familiar to a sweeter version of this dish that my grandma always makes - though with that being said, this is also quite good. Everyone at the table couldn't get enough of it.

To counteract the artery clogging meats, we also got some steamed lettuce with garlic oil. This was alright but not as healthy as I thought it would be because there was a lot of oil and also some soya sauce. Pretty alright but nothing to shout about.

Lunch with mom OK Jan 04, 2016

Rather than stay at home during the holiday, mother decided to bring us out to spend some quality time together. She's never been to Nu Sentral before so we decided to go there only she detoured and went to Sooka Sentral instead because we were craving for some good pub food. Oddly enough it was only the early afternoon so it was kind of crazy to be having heavy pub food but we dined there anyway.

To share, we ordered the Caeser salad that came with two pieces of toasted french bread. This was alright but nothing too crazy to should about even if I did like the anchovy slices that added a nice flavour to the salad. However I wasn't too pleasedwith the hard boiled egg that was beyond cooked.

Then because I am a sandwich person, I ordered the club sandwich that came with a side of fries. The side was normal however nothing as good as the fries you can get a any McDonald's. Howeverthe main sandwich was pretty good because it was filled with a lot of different fillings layered nicely with a heavy slather of mayonnaise. This was share between three people and it was more than enough for just two actually.

Being the carnivores that we are, we also got the meat platter that consists of roasted pork belly, ribs and also pork sausages. While I was quite excited about this because really, who doesn't enjoy a plate of nothing but meat. However the pork belly was mediocre and the ribs were slightly on the dry side. Then the sausage was like any you can purchase yourself at the supermarket so that too was lack lustre.

Will we return, probably but most definitely will not be the first choice should we decide to venture out for something to eat.

Brunch for two Smile Jan 04, 2016

A friend decided to try out Two Sons bistro for our brunch meet-up. It was a place that I have wanted to try for some time now but never got the chance to. However I was quite full by the time we met as I have gone to have breakfast with my grandparents beforehand, so we only got to try one dish which we ordered to share.

As always, we both ordered ourselves a latte each. The coffee was pretty good as it had a nice roasted flavour and creamy from the milk, but not overly so. I really liked this and for Rm 9 a cup, it was worth it.

To share, we decied to indulge in a plate of big breakfast and the operative word being 'big'. Honestly do not know how anyone is going to be able to finish this plate by themselves unless they are starving or something. This platter came with two sausages, poached eggs with a toast, hash brown, stir-fried mushroo, baked beans, ham, some tomatoes and a lettuce.

Even with the both of us, it was too much for the two of us. But it was actually pretty good which is what we look for in some good and hearty breakfast food.

Can't wait to be back here to try out their more well-known dishes like the clams/mussels and also their pastas.
