Best Dim Sum Smile Dec 08, 2015
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Dim sum | Porridge | Private Party

There are some days, especially a Sunday, where all I want is just to have a really indulgent breakfast. And often times my brain + stomach asks only for dim sum - not just any dim sum though, it has to be from one of the best places ever and that is Jin Xuan.

The one thing that's slightly negative is the crowd, especially on weekends. You have to wait about 15-20 minutes usually and easier to get a table when you're in a small party of maybe three or four people. However that's easily overlooked once you tuck into your mountainful of orders.

My absolute must-order when I am there is the Loh Mai Kai. The rice is soft & sticky with nice sweetness. The chicken that comes with one portion is huge and also the mushroom + lap cheong that comes with is always nicely flavoured. I can finish two portion of this easily if I don't eat antyhing else.

Then there is the egg tarts. Although most of the time it is not fresh-out-of-the-oven, it is still very good because the custardy part is just nicely sweet withouth being too firm. With that in mind the pastry is also beautifully crusty which makes the bite of this almost heavenly.

and then the main thing that keeps me coming back (among the other amazing things from this place) is the Brinjal. IT IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD, especially if you're lucky to get the portion that is freshly cooked. I don't know how but they stuff the brinjal to the brim with fish paste and still remains juicy. Plus I really love how the brinjal is crisp on the outside but meltingly soft on the inside.

Now I wish I lived nearer to Jin Xuan so I can get my dimsum fix any time.

Girls night.  Smile Dec 07, 2015
Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Pizza/Pasta

for some funny reason my best friend was really desperate for a girl's night out. She wanted to spend time together having a good meal, talk and also some drinks. Since we both live rather nearby, we decided to go to KLCC and at first wanted to dine at Svago. Unfortunately the place was fully booked for a function so we had to dine somewhere else instead and opted for Chinoz.

Our previous experience there had been a not so pleasant one, however we were willing to give it another chance. We do like the ambience there, especially when it isn't crowded nor filled with big families. This gave us a good chance to have a nice conversation without having to yell at each other from across the table.

With our drinks ordered, we looked through the menu and decided to just order food tapas style to share as none of the mains really appealed to us. Plus we prefer eating like this as it gives us a chance to try more different things.

We ordered the fried calamari. This was super good as it was hot and crisp which is a clear sign that it was freshly fried - with a squeeze of lemon and dipping it into the mayo that it came with, this was satisfying. Plus the squid tasted fresh unlike the frozen kind so I give them props for this dish.

We also ordered the grilled merguez sausage. The portion was slightly bigger than we imagined but then again, who would really complain about more food anyways. This tasted really good as the sausage was perfectly grilled and has a nice herby flavour. Plus it came with some kind of sauce which until today I am unsure what it is, but eating the sausage with it gave you quite a mouthful of flavour.

This is a must-try.

Then because we were indulging in dinner & drinks for the night, we also ordered the soft shell crab tempura. This was an absolute love because the batter was perfectly crisp, nicely flavoured and the crab was still juicy on the inside. We finished this up almost instantly, but we actually took our time to chat and nibble while we sipped on our drinks.

Buffet Smile Dec 07, 2015
Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Hotel Dining | Buffet | Seafood

There was one weekend, mom wanted to bring us for a good lunch and decided that Lemon Garden buffet was the best option. Plus a really close friend of hers has  memebership card that offers a 25% off the actual price which is great.

Be prepared that the place will be very crowded because it is the weekend. So it will be a good idea to make a reservation beforehand and also, do not be late as they will only hold your table for fifteen minutes maximum. But the amount of choices and food you get to eat there will be well worth it, because the lunch session lasts from 12pm to 4pm. (;

This is the cold cuts section where they also provide different selection of cheeses and also breads. I went a little too heavy on this section because I really liked the cold cuts + cheese, especially the smoked salmon and brie cheese. However the breads were slightly stale because it has been left on the counter for quite a while I presume.

This was my first round of food, giving my stomach some time to wake up to all of the food around me first. Plus it wasn't long after my plate was left untouched where the serves will come to take it away. Service there is top-notch.

If you're feeling for something Italian, they provide a section for that too. They have the usual salad and also very standard roasted vegetables in olive oil. Also pastas are readily available too and the best thing is, the plate of pasta is cooked to order.

There's also the Asian corner where they have chinese, malay and indian cuisine. All of which tastes really good, but too filling so I don't indulge too much in this to save stomach space for the main star.

One thing about Lemon Garden buffet that is really worth the price tag is the seafood/sashimi section. There is plenty on offer and they are always incredibly fresh. Mussels are great without any fishy smell, they also have scallops which are nicely succulent too and one thing I have never thought they would provide is the boiled crayfish.

Also, they have a lot of sashimi such as salmon, tuna, butterfish, all freshly sliced at the bar. All in generous thick portions too so you can eat it to your heart's content.

Then there is the oysters which are freshly shucked throught the entire dining session so you do not have to worry that you won't get any. They also provide lemons, wasabi and also tabasco for your seafood.

All my seafood & sashimi super fresh and of the best quality - I had plenty rounds of this. As expected of Shangri-La. Definitely a good buffet spread and place to dine at if you are in for a splurge.

Nostalgic Smile Dec 07, 2015

Categories : Malaysian variety | Western variety | Café | Noodles

The one thing I really enjoy about meeting up with my best friends is our food adventures. We are always willing to go a little further just for some good food and this time, we went to Damansara Uptown where a lot of good food business are popping up.

On our too try list was Fat Spoon. Opened by two sisters, they bring our childhood comfort food back to you and the flavours literally bring me back to my younger days. They really do bring justice to our favourite foods.

Also, their interior and decorations are really rustic. Sitting inside made me feel like I was brought back in time where my grandparents' lives would be like. It feels very homely and warm - however be warned that there is only a selected number of seats so during rush hours might be a slightly troublesome to get a table.

We ordered their deep fried sweet potato fries and these were super good. The sweet potatoes were sliced super thinly, smaller than the regular french fries then battered together before being plunge into super hot oil. As a result it is almost like hashbrowns but using sweet potato instead. These were super addictive and not very oily which was a major plus.

Then for my friend, she ordered their ulam fried rice which has been raved about by a number of people. After trying it I understood why because the rice was just so fragrant and super delicious when it is served to the table hot out of the wok. It also came with small portions of belacan kangkung and long beans, plus a pappadam. SO SO SO good.

As for me, I ordered the special set meal for the day. I got the Basil Beef Rice which comes with a bowl of ABC soup as a side. The moment I saw that it came with a soup, I just couldn't not order it because it is two of my favourite things combined.

The basil beef was so so so fragrant and topped over steaming hot rice was just isntant comfort food. All you had to do was break the yolk of the fried egg and eat it all together, bringing you to heaven. Plus at the end when you finished most of the egg & meat, pour in the ABC soup and indulge.

Would definitely be back for more! <3

Yakitori Style Smile Dec 07, 2015
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Seafood

One night, after spending the day out with my friends just getting reacquainted once again, we found a nice place to just chill for dinner. We had a pretty late lunch so when it was time for dinner all of us were just too full to have an actual meal. So we decided to try some Yakitori instead and since we were nearby, Koyaku was our first choice.

It was pretty crowded and busy when we arrived - no surprise since it was a Saturday and also right when it was the dinner rush. However our server was very attentive and polite which really put us in a good mood. The dining style at Koyaku was really pleasant as you have the option of dining casual style or have something more fancy off the menu.

For starters, we were each offered this deep fried shrim head with some Japanese mayo to nibble on. This was complimentary and I am not sure if it changes on the daily, however I do like this little offer before the food you ordered arrives.

What I had ordered that night was several sticks of Yakitori which is grilled foods. First, I got some shishito peppers because it's really good and also quite expensive to buy at Isetan so I order it whenever I see it on the menu. Unfortunately that night they were compeltely out of that so I was left with my other orders only.

Instead I got the grilled sliced steak wrapped enoki mushrooms and squids (tentacles & body separately.) Both of these tasted really good, nicely smoky from the grill and also the teriyaki sauce that it was lathered with.

However my beef slices were more well done than I would have liked. It was dry and hard which was quite a struggle to chew so that wasn't the best of the night. However I liked the squids so much that I ordered another two servings of it after I was done with my first round.

The ambience of the place was borderline casual but also fine dining almost. Imagine a very quirky but calm izakaya, which was what this restaurant reminded me of. If I am around the area then I would most definitely pay a visit again.
