Salmon Smile Jan 19, 2016

Since I was around the area and my friend was willing to meet me for dinner, we went somewhere nearby as neither of us were up to driving. So we went to Koyaku Grill which was just in the neighbourhood. Plus we like the ambience and also the food.

For starters we ordered the house salad with dressing on the side to share. It was quite a big bowl especially since it is meant for one person and luckily we asked for the dressing to come seperately. I am not entirely sure what the mix was but there is definitely a hint of wasabi in it, perhaps even too much because the kick was rather strong. which personally I like though I can't say the same for my friend.

To share we both ordered the grilled salmon head with salt. Neither of us were fans of teriyaki sauce so we opted the other option instead and honestly it was a good thing. The fish was fragrant from the grill and just nicely seasoned as the saltiness brings out the fish's natural sweetness. For a person to finish this on their own would probably take a little bit of a challenge but it was jsut enough for two adequately sized apetite girls.

Japanese... Again Smile Jan 13, 2016

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Seafood | Ramen/Udon/Soba

Lucky me, mom took me for Japanese lunch after I told her that I've been craving for it. At first we were thinking of getting something else but then I pestered her into having Sushi Zanmai, plus she wanted to treat me since I followed her around while she ran her work errands.

As always, we would always order Beef Sukiyaki that comes in a nice pot over a stove to keep the soup hot for as long as we want. We love the sweet & savoury soup that infuses itself into all the vegetables as it continues to simmer. The meat is just nice as you blanch it in the boiling soup and then dipping it in the raw egg which is provided to you.

For mom she ordered the grilled mackerel with salt. We both always order this to share and sometimes with an extra bowl of rice if we do not get some sushi as sides. As per usual this never fails us unless we are served a portion that is not cooked to order but so far that only happened once before.

And because I'm greedy, I also ordered a soft shell crab handroll. Maybe I am fussy but this wasn't as good as I expected it to be because the filling was only substantial and the soft shell crab was cold. Disappointing.

Pork Bone Soup OK Jan 13, 2016

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Steamboat/Hotpot | Seafood

I have heard pretty good review about Coco Steamboat from a few friends, especially the one that lives in Taman Desa. No surprise that the place was quite busy when we arrived for dinner over the weekend and we had to wait for a while before getting a table. But the smaller the pax then it's a little easier to get a table.

Immediately we got down to ordering and it would be stupid of us to not try their famous pork bone soup base. The soup was a milky colour rather than clear and one spoonful packs a big punch of flavour, probably from it bieng boiled for very long hours. However be aware that they charge an extra Rm20 or 30 when you do order this soup.

For quick and easy food, just order the sets which are already prepared. It consists of some seafood, fishballs and other usual steamboat kind of ingredients. Nothing overly fancy however there is the option to add on different things too at an added price.

Like pork slices which I liked even though it is a little expensive for those slices of meat. It does tastes good when lightly cooked in the soup then dipped in the many kinds of sauces that is provided.

Now let's talk about the different kinds of chilli sauces, there are some that are just regular and then there's the really gragrant & spicy one. They're all good in their own way especially when different kinds of things are dipped into it. The green one, take a little bit then mix it with a spoonful of soup just makes things super exciting.

I don't know whether the steamboat is as good as everyone says it is. Even though I quite enjoyed dining there, I don't think I'd go all the way to Coco with the crowd unless I'm nearby and it's convenient.

CRABS! Smile Jan 13, 2016

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood

At this current point I feel like I'm going through a phase where all I want to have is seafood. It's probably not the best thing for my general health as it really spikes up the cholesterol, but in that moment I do not really mind. My current obsession happens to be seafood especially crabs cooked in different ways and also my favourite prawns.

THANK GOODNESS mom was in a good mood and wanted to treat her good friend to a birthday dinner. Of course I bugged her to bring me along which was no problem since that friend of hers adore me. Off to South Sea we went one evening and I was near exploding with joy because its my favourite place to get super good seafood.

We got the Wine steamed fresh tiger prawns. OMG THIS! IS! SO SO SOOOOO GOOD! Each prawn was super juicy and succulent, absorbing most of the tasty soup it was cooked in that also has very strong flavour from the crustacean. And the best way to tell if the prawns are fresh or not is by sucking out all the yummy guts from the head, which I had so many of and can proudly say that the prawns were just alive momentarily before being picked up from the tank to be cooked. SO SO SO YUMS.

Finally came the main star which is the crabs. We ordered two kinds, the first that arrived was the black pepper flavour and omg it smelled amazing. There was more than just the spiciness off the black pepper but also some curry leaves and secret ingredients. The spicy kick of the 'sauce' and wok-hei really enhances the flavours of the sweet & juicy crab meat.

Even though that was good, my ultimate favourite was the Butter Crab. The sauce was amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing and there was a generous amount of it, coating each pieces of the crab and seeped into each nook & cranny there is. Plus there's plenty more at the bottom of the plate for you to spoon over your crab. Or like me, slurp it up by the spoonfuls.

CANT WAIT TO GO BACK. I'm literally salivating at the memory of this. ;-;

Gyuniku Don Smile Jan 12, 2016

Categories : Japanese | Stall / Warung | Seafood

I had to restock my kitchen with food again and the only place I can get most of the Japanese ingredients I need is found at Isetan, KLCC. Plus I do enjoy casually strolling through the isles looking at all the different & unique things that are sold there. Often times when I'm done with paying for my food it would be either around lunch or dinner time, which leads me to Senya.

There you can find your usual Japanese food fix and are quite famous for their bowls of udons & ramen. However I am always there for their rice bowls which are often times already prepared and laid out at the front for people to buy as takeaway meals. If you do choose to dine there the staff would reheat it for you if that's what you like.

MY FAVOURITE! The Beef Don set which comes with a side salad, agedashi tofu and miso soup. It also comes with green tea, can't remember if this is refillable or not. All of this only costs me Rm25 and the portion is actually bigger than I had initially expected.

The beef don is supr good as each meat is succulently juicy plus the sweet sauce that is poured over it coats the rice nicely. I usually only am able to finish half of this and takeaway the other for my breakfast or something. See, two meal with one purchase haha.
The sides are also pretty good, especially the miso soup. I can just slurp up the whole bowl easily as it is so full flavoured from i dont know what + miso. Heavenly.

Really enjoy it whenever I dine at Senya and would happily be back for more.
