For quick lunch after dropping by the bank to run some errands, we decided to eat at KIP Seafood which was mom's favourite. I was just there because nobody wanted to eat banana leaf rice as I suggested.

This was a new addition and a definite must order whenever I see it. This is the traditional loh bak which is flavoured meat wrapped in bean curd sheets which will be deep fried to crispy perfection. Honestly this was nothing too great to shout about even though the meat was leaner than most places, only thing is the flavour was lacking.

By my request, we ordered this stir-fried potato leaves with brinjal in bean paste sauce. Oddly enough it came with several pieces of crisped up anchovies which I wasn't interested in. However this tasted really nice because of the salty sauce & softly braised brinjal which is my favourite.

The food here is rather weird in its flavour because the chef comes up with many different combinations. But all good so come here to give it a try!

Porky afternoon Smile Feb 10, 2016

After running some errands for the boss at the bank nearby, my colleague & I dropped by Champ's for lunch. There were just too many people and with a long line, we decided that it was better to get something to eat first rather than stick around with the lunch-hour crowd.

This was my favourite order of the day. It's bascally one century egg sliced into fours and served with a side of pickled ginger. I presume that this was a duck egg because the yolk was soft & custard-like which was heavenly to eat especially with the tangy yet spicy ginger. I could eat this all on my own.

Then for main to share we ordered braised pork belly with preserved vegetables. This is my favourite comfort food which my grandma cooked often back home. Although the flavour profile isn't exactly the same as this is more savoury than sweet, I still think it's pretty good as the meat portion was big enough for two to share with lots of sauce & veggies.

Rather than have a serving on rice, I opted for the fried mantao instead and dipped it into the pork sauce. This was fresh out of the fryer which was pretty amazing especially after getting soaked in lots of the preserved veggie sauce & some belacan chilli.

If you're around the area and is looking for something different, then try Champ's Kitchen. They have traditional shanghainese/taiwanese pork dishes which are actually pretty good even if it will clog an artery or two.

Penang Craving Smile Feb 04, 2016

Coincidentally my boss is from Penang so his favourite food will no doubt be the kind that reminds him of home. Then luckily enough there's a place rather near our office that specializes in that so it comes as no surprise that he would go there for lunch rather often.

The only thing I really like to order there is the Penang Loh Mee. The soup is super thick & flavourful, plus there's a nice kick from the grated garlic which you mix in. It's completely different from the regular loh mee we get at our local restaurants but it's also good. Even better if you ask for extra fried shallots to add with your noodles.

Then the Prawn Noodles are pretty good too, or at least that is what my boss says. To me it's only mediocre because I had better ones in Ampang.

Another thing that I really like is their lobak and rojak. But we didn't order those that day because it would be way too greedy of us. Though we always order either one when we do have lunch there with our other colleagues.

Beef~ Smile Feb 02, 2016

A good friend recently got a job at Tujo and happily invited us girls there for dinner. that night I was just happy to be out of the house since it was the first day of the long weekend.

So all dressed up that's where we headed to and was mildly surprised by the interior - slightly mismatched but fun which I assume is their goal as it matches their 'fun' motto. However it wasn't really my taste especially the blinking coloured lights that were right above my table, giving me quite the headache.

Upon recommendation I tried the beef bourguignon and was pleasantly surprised. I've tried this dish at other restaurants & was disappointed as it was mainly too sweet, then I have even attempted to cook it myself too but still could not get the flavour that I was hoping for. Tujo however have achieved that perfect balance where the stew was not overly sweet nor too salty.

Although most of the beef were really tender, there were still a few pieces which were slightly on the drier side which I ignored. Also there are some rather fatty bits as well, but I presume that is also needed to give extra depth of flavour to the stew.

My dish came with a side of garlic bread which were quite bad honestly. It was not toasted well enough and to me seemed rather stale - as if it was store bought then sat at a counter all day. That I think was the only let down of this dish.

Can't wait to be back to have this again!

Weekend Brunch  OK Jan 29, 2016

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood | Noodles | Yong Tau Fu

For weekend brunch, my uncle brought the family to have brunch in Kuchai Lama. Well I went along since I had an appointment with my chiropractor there anyway and free food so there's no complains from me. At first I thought we were going for our usual dim sum fix, however he brought us here for something new.

As a staple hakka dish, the abascus yam is a must order. However this was only so so and I personally do not like it because we've had better elsewhere. The little balls were so stodgy that after eating two piece left me feeling so heavy.

We also ordered this dish where it's just stir-fried pork intestines with stomach. This was actually pretty good and honestly the only thing out of everything else we ordered that I liked. Definitely worth the order if intestines are your thing.

As fir everything else like the hokkien mee and yong tau fu, honestly think they are mediocre at best. However it is still nice but nothing to shout about.
