So this has been a recent discovery of my mom's ever since dining there with her friends. Which means she was very eager to bring the family there too, especially to enjoy the decor of the restaurant.

However be prepared that the parking is a nightmare to deal with cause there's soo many cars around the area that finding an empty spot will be like finally finding heaven. But hwne you're there, get ready to be taken back to china town in the 60s or 50s era when you're dining at Dragon Door Steamboat.

As someone places an order for all the food, feel free to go to the sauces station and mix up all the ones you want. It's basically up to you how much of each ingredient that you want and you can even take ten different kinds of bowls of sauces. Here are the few that I took and even went for refills halfway through the meal. The fermented beancurd mixed with chopped onions, garlic and parsley is amazing.

This was the cart of all that we ordered. Honestly the portions of each order is quite substantial and a little more than what we would usually get at any steamboat restaurants. However it is also slightly more expensive but definitely worth trying especially for their soups.

The one that I liked the most is the superior herbal soup that was heavy ladden with spices and also all the herbs. Cooking meats in it is heavenly especially dipping it in the sauces after. I can drink bowls after bowls of it. And another special thing about Dragon Door is their soups are all boiled over a charcoal flame rather than the usual gas stove.

They also have a bbq meats selection, however this to me was not as good as the steamboat. Because it's just a few slices of meat cooked in a claypot with some scallions and garlics. But it was definitely different because it's also cooked over charcoal heat.

I do like dining here and would most definitely be back, if im ready to brave the nightmarish traffic plus lacking of parking conditions.

Clams! Smile Jan 27, 2016   (Related Review)

After bugging my friend to go try the food at Two Sons with me, she finally gave in. Only because I agreed to practice painting with her at the same time too. Whatever works for me as long as I get to eat my giant pot of clams stewed in super flavourful broth then I'm happy.

No surprise that my immediate order was the main sized serving of clams (400gms) for the price of Rm46. It also comes with free-flow of fries or garlic brioche. I'd advice against ordering the fries because the ones I got were so bad that I could barely finish the first basket that was brought to us. Plus garlic toast would absorb the sauce so much better.

We got chilli cream base which was heavenly and each clam was super plump. It tasted fresh plus soaked up the sauce really well.

Can't wait to go back for more to try out all the other kinds of sauce!

Salmon Smile Jan 19, 2016

Since I was around the area and my friend was willing to meet me for dinner, we went somewhere nearby as neither of us were up to driving. So we went to Koyaku Grill which was just in the neighbourhood. Plus we like the ambience and also the food.

For starters we ordered the house salad with dressing on the side to share. It was quite a big bowl especially since it is meant for one person and luckily we asked for the dressing to come seperately. I am not entirely sure what the mix was but there is definitely a hint of wasabi in it, perhaps even too much because the kick was rather strong. which personally I like though I can't say the same for my friend.

To share we both ordered the grilled salmon head with salt. Neither of us were fans of teriyaki sauce so we opted the other option instead and honestly it was a good thing. The fish was fragrant from the grill and just nicely seasoned as the saltiness brings out the fish's natural sweetness. For a person to finish this on their own would probably take a little bit of a challenge but it was jsut enough for two adequately sized apetite girls.

Japanese... Again Smile Jan 13, 2016

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Seafood | Ramen/Udon/Soba

Lucky me, mom took me for Japanese lunch after I told her that I've been craving for it. At first we were thinking of getting something else but then I pestered her into having Sushi Zanmai, plus she wanted to treat me since I followed her around while she ran her work errands.

As always, we would always order Beef Sukiyaki that comes in a nice pot over a stove to keep the soup hot for as long as we want. We love the sweet & savoury soup that infuses itself into all the vegetables as it continues to simmer. The meat is just nice as you blanch it in the boiling soup and then dipping it in the raw egg which is provided to you.

For mom she ordered the grilled mackerel with salt. We both always order this to share and sometimes with an extra bowl of rice if we do not get some sushi as sides. As per usual this never fails us unless we are served a portion that is not cooked to order but so far that only happened once before.

And because I'm greedy, I also ordered a soft shell crab handroll. Maybe I am fussy but this wasn't as good as I expected it to be because the filling was only substantial and the soft shell crab was cold. Disappointing.

CRABS! Smile Jan 13, 2016

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood

At this current point I feel like I'm going through a phase where all I want to have is seafood. It's probably not the best thing for my general health as it really spikes up the cholesterol, but in that moment I do not really mind. My current obsession happens to be seafood especially crabs cooked in different ways and also my favourite prawns.

THANK GOODNESS mom was in a good mood and wanted to treat her good friend to a birthday dinner. Of course I bugged her to bring me along which was no problem since that friend of hers adore me. Off to South Sea we went one evening and I was near exploding with joy because its my favourite place to get super good seafood.

We got the Wine steamed fresh tiger prawns. OMG THIS! IS! SO SO SOOOOO GOOD! Each prawn was super juicy and succulent, absorbing most of the tasty soup it was cooked in that also has very strong flavour from the crustacean. And the best way to tell if the prawns are fresh or not is by sucking out all the yummy guts from the head, which I had so many of and can proudly say that the prawns were just alive momentarily before being picked up from the tank to be cooked. SO SO SO YUMS.

Finally came the main star which is the crabs. We ordered two kinds, the first that arrived was the black pepper flavour and omg it smelled amazing. There was more than just the spiciness off the black pepper but also some curry leaves and secret ingredients. The spicy kick of the 'sauce' and wok-hei really enhances the flavours of the sweet & juicy crab meat.

Even though that was good, my ultimate favourite was the Butter Crab. The sauce was amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing and there was a generous amount of it, coating each pieces of the crab and seeped into each nook & cranny there is. Plus there's plenty more at the bottom of the plate for you to spoon over your crab. Or like me, slurp it up by the spoonfuls.

CANT WAIT TO GO BACK. I'm literally salivating at the memory of this. ;-;
