When the famous Uncle Jang Korean Restaurant first made its presence in Penang, the restaurant was always full with customers queing up waiting for seats. We were there about 3 months after its opening and the restaurant was still full seats during dinner time.

We ordered Original Spicy Dak Galbi for 2 pax (RM21 per pax, minimum order of 2 pax) and added on ramen (RM6). Not only the marinated chicken, rice cakes, sweet potatoes and cabbages were placed on the hot plate and cooked together. These two pax portions with ramen were good enough for three persons.

The complimentary side dishes, known as Ban Chan in korean. They were kimchi and soy sauce pickled onions.

The staff are always ready there to cook the Dak-Galbi for you and customers just need to wait until everything is perfectly cooked. For me, the original spicy was good enough unless you enjoy eating spicy foods a lot. In overall, the chicken, rice cakes and sweet potatoes  were nicely cooked and the flavors were adequate but i think it was a bit oily compared to Chun Cheon Dak Galbi. So I prefered to have all the ingredients wrapped with lettuce and garlic.

The kimchi pancake was dissappointing. Obviously, the appearance was not appealing. The kimchi taste was quite flat and it was not crispy. I will not try the pancake if I visit to this restaurant again. The overall dining experience was just an average and not up to my expectation because of the poor ventilation and few choices of complimentary side dishes. I would prefer Chun Cheon Dak Galbi though the price for one pax would be slightly higher than Uncle Jang Korean Restaurant. Based on my past dining experience in Chun Cheon Dak Galbi, they served more delicious Ban Chan and better dining environment.

I can sure that most of the Penangites are familiar with the hawkers stalls located along the Chulia Street, especially the famous Wanton Mee and Curry Mee. They open at night. But what I want to feature is the fried fritters stall, just located besides Wanton Mee stall.

They have only few choices: Yam Cake, Cha Siew Spring Roll, Radish Cake, Sesame cake (Red bean and Peanut) but everything is just worth trying. They are freshly made and selling fast.

I love their sesame cakes with both fillings (red bean and peanut). They were not too oily and the fillings were not too sweet as well. I think their fried fritters are better than what I have in other dim sum places. Definitely you still can have more than one of these fried fritters after filling up your tummy with other hawker foods. They were just simply delicious.

Little Italy, Kota Kinabalu Smile Aug 17, 2015

Little Italy can be easily spotted in the town area of Kota Kinabalu. It is located below the Capital Hotel and it is just within walking distances from Suria Sabah.

A refreshing drink that everyone will love. The lemonade is sweet and sour and one of the best option to have when you are going to have fullfilling, chessy pastas and pizza later.

They were freshly baked sandwich with saunteed mushrooms, marinated chicken, artichokes, lettuce and emmenthal cheese. The savoury ingredients were seasoned to perfection and filled between the crispy sandwich breads. For every set of triangle sandwich, the fillings served were more than enough, completed with the cheese and cream cheese spreaded on the bread. But, this was not too cheesy and you may go for this if you want to have something lighter than pizza.

For their homemade pastas, we chose Ravioli with Spinacci & Ricotta Cheese. Ravioli is a type of dumpling with a filling sealed between two layers of thin pasta dough. Never miss this if you are a chesse lover! You will definitely love it when every mouthful of pasta come with cheese melted inside the mouth. haha.

We opted Fettucine with Chilli and we were recommended to go with Marinara source (topped with prawns, squids, clams and New Zealand mussels with white wine of tomato sauce.). Yup, they matched so well and the seafoods were fresh. The home made pastas were cooked to a perfect al -dente texture and every bites came with a little bit of spiciness which makes the whole dish more tastier. The spiciness of the pastas and the sweetness of the tomato sauce were not overpowering on each other. Yummy!

This was our first try at this yellow painted house, Yella Fork. It is an Aussie influenced Asian Fusion Cafe. They claim that no MSG, no preservatives in their dishes and all the sauces are homemade.

For me, Forkai Hawaii was served in a quite generous portion. A thick slab of grilled chicken breast was sandwiched between two thick burger buns, drizzled with their homemade lemon pepper mayonnaise. As for the grilled chicken breast, it was a bit hard for me and I would personally prefer it to be more tender and juicy. But, the caramelized pineapple sandwhiched together with chicken breast was an extra shinning point to the overall. The caramelized pineapple was grilled to just right without losing its sweetness and juiciness. It really helped adding more flavor to every bites. The burger also came with the shoestring fries and salad. The sides are okay but not mind-blowing.

Chick Leek the Shroom was an Asian fusion pasta. The ingredients, fettucine, mushrooms, leek, chicken slices were stir fried in wok with creamy sauce and the taste turned out to be quite local like something similar to wet style fried noodles. It tasted quite salty to me and this was not impressing.
