yummy classic chinese food! Smile Aug 08, 2014

It is now a yearly tradition of heading to Sek Yuen for Pre Chinese New Year (CNY) dinner. They serve up some of the best classic chinese cuisine. Service isn't that great as most of them are the grumpy sorts however the quality and taste of food makes up for it. I do not think you can find restaurants like Sek Yuen anymore that serve up tradisional old school chinese dishes. As the saying goes 'Just how mom does it!'.
Must have choices would be the Pei Pa duck, Braised 8 Treasure Stuffed Pork Trotter, Deep Fried Grass Carp, Kah Heong Chap Choi, Crab+Egg+Tung Fun w/ lettuce wraps & Wu Tao Kau Yoke. Also if you go during CNY period make sure you have their Yu Sang which is made from fresh veggy and not the preserved crap by most places. We usually have 2 rounds!

This swine paradise is located deep inside Ben's Independent Grocer. It has a nice industrial interior with dim lighting, wooden tables & metal seats. It can get crowded during peak times but its well worth the wait.
My picks would be to start of with the Scallop Bacon Bites & Rib Basket. Mains go for the French Toast with Grilled Bananas, Eggs Benedict, English Fry Up, Spicy Bacon & Mushrooms Pasta and Warm Pork Confit, Watermelon & Lychee Salad. They also have ribs & burgers which I haven't tried. However do avoid the Daily Roast as the meat & gravy were tasteless. Drink wise they have good coffee, juicers, coolers & wine if you are up for it.
Service is friendly & attentive. Prices are decent considering the location & quality of food. Will surely return to try out more swine treats. Am eyeing the Bacon, Strawberry & Macadamia Sundae. Drooools.

slurpalicious ramen... Smile Aug 07, 2014

Bari-Uma serves some great authentic slurpalicious ramen. Richly flavoured tonkotsu shoyu soup which is thick & creamy. Followed by the home-made noodles which was consistent throughout with a nice bite to it. Pair that with some lovely flame grilled charred pork slices. Tender with a smoky flavour. A real treat.
They also have dumplings (gyoza) either boiled or fried. Crispy with adequate filling. We had the spicy version which was a good snack. Simple offerings but done right.
Service was quick & attentive. Layout clean & inviting. Will definitely return to try out the spicy ramen.

yummy Thai food... Smile Aug 07, 2014

Been here a couple of times & they never disappoint. Good variety of Thai dishes made with fresh ingredients. Slightly on the pricey side but you get what you pay for. Make sure you start off with their tom yam. Spicy with chock-full of seafood goodies. Other notable mentions would be the chilli lime or salted egg squid, glass noodle salad, thai style siakap & steamed lala. Heard their other seafood dishes are just as good. Don't forget to wash it all down with their umbra juice. Very fresh & tasty. Great cure for the spice.
The overall atmosphere is average. Mostly outdoor wooden seating with plants all around. Cosy but a bit dark & mosquitoes might be a problem at times. Service is average. Food does come out pretty quick. Do note it can get busy during prime hours. Overall a decent place for some good Thai food.

awesome desserts... Smile Aug 07, 2014

Miam Miam is a French Japanese Artisanal Cafe that has a branch in Penang & now 1 Utama in Petaling Jaya. Their claim to fame is their french toast which takes up to 20 minutes to prepare or when busy as long as 2 hours! The decor is a mix of hipster & industrial with metal chairs, leather sofas & cutesy cutlery holder with table numbers. Rather cramped though.
We shared a couple of desserts here which is the famous french toast & vanilla soufflé. Both took at least 30 minutes to arrive but it was well worth the wait. The french toast was fluffy & buttery served with plenty of maple syrup & house-made whipped cream. Am drooling just thinking about it. The soufflé's was good as well. Warm, creamy & not too sweet. For drinks their coffee wasn't all that bad & the peanut butter milkshake was rich with lovely bites of peanut.
Service is attentive & friendly. Will definitely return to try out more desserts and perhaps have a full meal. The menu is pretty interesting. Will wait for the hype to end though so there isn't any wait time.
