Good Good Asam Laksa OK Jul 31, 2013

Categories : Chinese | Malaysian variety | Restaurant | Noodles

I was attracted by the signboard of this restaurant because it was featured in newspaper. So I decided to give it a try.

Of course have to order the signature food here, Asam Laksa (RM5 nett).

The soup is quite fresh, without fishlike smell. The sourness and spiciness are just right. The signature food of the restaurant indeed.

I also ordered a Seafood Pan Mee RM5.

Seafood Pan Mee

This is so so poor. The Pan Mee are not freshly made, the texture is not chewy at all. The what so called seafood are all frozen food, like fishballs, fishpaste and crab filaments and a few pieces of cuttlefish.

There are 2 types of Chee Cheong Fun (RM2.50), traditional and curry. The texture is quite nice and smooth, but too bad it's not in hot condition. It would be nice if it's steamed before serving.

We also ordered some snacks to try. The Swiss Chicken Wings (RM5.90 for 3 pairs)are so nice and very recommended. It's very well marinated and very flavorful, perhaps has been braised for very long.

The fried beancurd skin (RM3.50) is quite not bad too, quite fresh. I can see a lot of people ordering it.

Overall, the food here are quite nice, except the seafood pan mee.

KFC Seafood Symphony Oriental Set Cry Jul 31, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Burgers / Sandwiches | Halal

Recently KFC has been advertising their new products, KFC Seafood Symphony quite often on the TV. Of course, I cannot miss out the chance to try it as I am a seafood lover. However I didn't really put much expectation on it.

There are 2 sets of KFC Seafood Symphony (RM13.50+) can be chosen, either Western or Oriental. Western set includes of 2 pieces of fried chicken, 2 pieces of shrimps stars, 1 chili snow crab sauce, 1 coleslaw, 1 bun and 1 carbonated drink, while Oriental set is replacing the coleslaw and bun with a small bowl of chicken rice.

I ordered a Oriental set, as expected, the taste are just below normal standard.
Shrimps Stars

Shrimps Stars

Yes there are real shrimps inside the shrimp stars, but I don't think they are using fresh shrimps to make it because I can't actually taste the shrimps inside.
Chili Snow Crab Sauce

Chili Snow Crab Sauce

The chili crab sauce is just some chili sauce, tomato sauce cooked together with some frozen crab filament, but not real seafood.
Colonel Chicken Rice

Colonel Chicken Rice

The colonel chicken rice portion is quite small but not as advertised. It also lack of some fragrance of what chicken rice should have. Overall, this is a very poor dish. I hope that KFC can put more effort next time before launching a new product but not just for promotion purpose only.

All food are subject to 6% of government tax.

Spending per head: Approximately RM14(晚餐)

KFC Spicy Korean Burger OK Jul 31, 2013
Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Burgers / Sandwiches | Halal

KFC has launched the new Spicy Korean Burger for a time already but I didn't have the chance to try it because the nearest branch to my rental house is having renovation. Until recently only I have the chance to try it.

Ultimate Hot Box RM13.35

I ordered a Ultimate Hot Box (Rm13.35+). This set includes of one Spicy Korean Burger, one fried chicken, one Cheesy Wedges, and a carbonated drink. However, the burger quite disappointed me because it tastes just almost the same as the normal Zinger Burger, except that LITTLE extra sauce inside. Furthermore, I visited there around 4pm and there are not much customers that time. That's why the burger was left for very long and it's not served in hot condition, and it has soaked with the sauce, making the chicken lost its crispness. Same for the cheesy wedges.

Chicken Rice Cry Jul 31, 2013
Categories : Chinese | Café

I have tried almost all the food of stall at the kopitiam nearby my rental house Setapak here. So my friend suggested to try the chicken rice. I don't really put much expectation on it. As expected, the food are so poor.

I ordered a Chicken Drumstick Rice Set (RM6.50). The set comes with a very tasteless herbal tea (ice occupies more than 3/4 of the drink), a plate of bean sprout with SOURISH taste ( this is the first time I tasted bean spout with sour taste), a chicken drumstick and a plate of rice. Due to the air-conditioned environment, the chicken drumstick is not hot and they only drench the chicken with hot water or perhaps soup (it's not steamed chicken ). The chicken is tasteless and not juicy. I could only taste the seasonings. The rice is ok, warm enough and quite fragrant.

I would definitely not eat their chicken rice anymore. Perhaps other food are ok.

All You Can Eat Pizza  OK Jul 31, 2013
Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Pizza/Pasta | Halal

We were sick of the canteen food in campus. So if we have long break time after class, we would go out and hunt for some nicer food. We were considering of to eat pizza and we have decided to eat at Papa John's Pizza because my friend said that they do provide students promotion. However when we reached there, the branch doesn't seem to have that promotion. So we were discussing and calculating the prices of the food. The staff was patiently waiting for us and explain to us about other combo meals. At last we decided to have 2 lunch sets and 2 buffet sets to share. We asked the staff are we allowed to order in that way, and that staff seems like hinting us to order only one set of buffet. So at last we ordered 1 buffet (RM15.90++) and 2 lunch sets (RM9.90++) to be shared among 4 people. (Buffet only available at selected outlets only.)

Each lunch set includes one soup, one carbonated drink, and one main dish. Each buffet set includes all you can eat SELECTED pizza and one carbonated drink.
Mushroom Soup

Mushroom Soup

The mushroom soup is quite nice, compared to Pizza Hut's, it's thicker and creamier.
Baked Papa's Special Pasta

Baked Papa's Special Pasta

The Baked Papa's Special Pasta is quite poor as the pasta is tasteless and sauce is very insufficient. The cheese also very less that it's doesn't even cover the whole surface of the bowl and baked it, causing the pasta becomes even drier.

The Pizza Pocket is even more disappointing me because it's totally different with what I ate in other branch. I guess the dough is baked at too high temperature causing the dough to be quite tough and the cheese inside is not melted. Furthermore, there is no sauce inside, cause the ingredients inside to be so dry. I can only eat it with the special garlic sauce.

For the buffet, it's not really sufficient for a few tables of customers at a same time. We have to wait and scramble to get the pizza because they only serve 1 -2 pizza at a time. I think that if the company if really wants to make this promotion, please do it nicely.
