Art and Foods Experience! Smile Aug 29, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood | Dim sum

The loving young couple, Tee and Melissa who own and manage the restaurant. Mayflower is a family restaurant which cooking style is also family oriented. Their dishes are healthful with minimal MSG and salt. The foods are presented in an artful manner. They are a conversation piece to the adults and delights to the children!
The restaurant serves dimsum in the morning to lunch time. You could also order dishes during lunch. It has a capacity of 25 tables downstairs and 40 tables upstairs so you can have your wedding, anniversaries and birthdays there!

Zhejang's 3 Treasures is a combinations of 3 vegetables, asparagus with spicy dried shrimp, pak choy with dried scaloop and Kai Choy with mushroom, shark fin and crab meat. All very fresh and tasty. They are artfully presented and look appetising with a lighted lantern in the centre.

The red lantern in the centre! This lantern has been carved out from a ripen tomato! Isn't it lovely and romantic!

Shanghainese Poached Chicken. The kampong chicken was steamed and deboned. They arranged in the manner of a peacock fan. The meat is steeped in herbal soup and tasted succulent.

Steamed Fish with Preserved Daikon (Salted Radish) and Ginger. This is a unique Hakka style dish. This is my first time eating steamed fish garnished this way. The Daikon gives it a unique taste though salty. The Garoupa is fresh and sweet. Indeed very delicious! Try this!

Buttery Shrimp with Corn Kernels. The presentation is in the form of a fish bowl with little fishs, turtle, frog and water plant. There also dragon flies in the air. Indeed it is so lovely you do not want to eat! However the shrimps bathed in buttery sauce look so tempting...Yes, they are delicious and tasted fresh, sweet and succulent. The buttery sauce is heavenly.

Hakka Braised Pork Belly. This is the resultant evolution of Hakka in Taiwan. The Taiwanese there love to eat stewed pork leg with bun or pancake. This one with pork belly! It is yummy!

Royal Jellies and Flaky Shanghainese Pastries. This dish is presented alike a flowering plant using the jellies as flowers and pastries in the form of butterlies! I like the butterflies very much! It is crispy but does not crumbles and not overly sweet. The green stems and leaves are of agar-agar. They are sweet and soothing to the throat!
The above is served with a special tongshui of dried longan, tea leaves and pear slices. Very refreshing and not too sweet. Try this!

The internal ambience is modern, clean and cozy.
The BBQ Pork 'Ngam Yin Siew Wan' Rice.

The BBQ Pork 'Ngam Yin Siew Wan' Rice.

The BBQ Pork Rice is one of the their signature dishes. It is not only filling but very tasty too. The BBQ pork has a layer of fat and roasted with a slight char at the edges thus making it crunchy, succulent and juicy too. It has a sweet taste and slightly burned aroma. I recommend this dish which is good value at RM8.90.
BBQ Pork with Noddle.

BBQ Pork with Noddle.

The BBQ Pork is excellent and the noodle is thin, springy and crunchy. The soya sauce and other ingredients used to toss the noodle are a good mixture making the taste yummy. I recommend this dish too which also good value at RM8.90 too.
Ipoh Chicken Hor Fun

Ipoh Chicken Hor Fun

The Ipoh Hor Fun does not meet similar standard of that found at Low Wong in Ipoh. Price at RM7.90 per bowl.
Roast Meat Platter.

Roast Meat Platter.

The Meat Platter is an excellent choice if you like to sample the variety of roasted meat. The roast pork is great. It has a layer of fat and the skin is extremely crispy and aromatic when chewed on. The BBQ meat here is lean with no fat certainly for the health conscious but not taste wise. So if you are ordering this dish, ask for BBQ pork with some fat! The roast duck and roast chicken are okay. RM48.90 for 3-5 pax.
Wanton (Shrimp n Pork) Soup

Wanton (Shrimp n Pork) Soup

Shrimp and Pork Wanton Soup. The wanton are large and meaty and quite tasty. RM9.90 for 6.
Traditional Hakka Noodle.

Traditional Hakka Noodle.

The Hakka Noodle is passable. I found the minced pork a bit salty and the noodle not springy and crunchy enough. RM6.90 per bowl.

German Pork Knuckle

German Pork Knuckle

German Pork Knuckle - Crispy skin and juicy meat. The meat is well seasoned with aromatic spices. Big serving good for 2. Served with vegetables and fries. A variation of crispy pork knuckle is found at Hakka restaurant behind Pavillion Shopping Center at Bukit Bintang. While you are there you should try the Beehoon Fried with Crab.
German Sausage Platter

German Sausage Platter

German Sausage Platter - 3 types of yummy sausages. I like the smokey peppery and cheesy ones. The sausages are served with BBQ sauce, fries, baked potatoes and vegetables. Very big serving. Definately for 2 or 3 persons.
BBQ Back Baby Ribs

Meaty Products for Sale!

Meaty Products for Sale!

Meaty products for sale - !0% discount for diners! You like what you eat? Buy the meat home to cook.

The servings are generally large. They will satisfy most big eaters especially if you also try the muffin and ice cream. You may then not have room for salads and soup.

The meats are all very fresh direct from the factory owned by the restaurant owner. Vegetables are fresh too. You should try the soups which I find very creamy and tasty.

Besides they always have promotions like Mother's day special for 2 at RM49.90 only. I think you can still celebrate a belated Mother's day. Your mum would like the pork belly!

So look out for Father's Special next month.

There is an on-going challenge ending this month too! The Goliath Challenge! Eat for free if you can polish off a 6" pork burger, fries and soft drink in 30 minutes. Added reward is a discount voucher for RM30. If you fail then you pay for the food which is RM39.90 only! So it is a win-win situation.

For more information regarding the Challenge, visit www.facebook.com/jurohaven. Like it so you can be in touch with their coming promotions. They are selling smoked cooked X'mas ham at RM45 per kg.

By the way, you know why the name Juro? Say it in Mandarin? You got it. I would have prefered Porky Restaurant ! Haha!

The Meaty (that is the brand!) products are also found in any large hypermarket eg Tesco.

Do drop by the restaurant. I am sure you will find it very satisfying. A Made-in-Malaysia Geman Restaurant! Auf Wiedersehen!

An Amazing Nyonya Experience! Smile May 15, 2013

An intro' to Nyonya Cookings!

An intro' to Nyonya Cookings!

The basic ingredients of Nyonya cookings. Look at the mortar! Most with a granite rooling pin or pounder (a bowl and a pedestal). It is indeed a nostalgic sight.
Windows on the ceilings!

Windows on the ceilings!

Windows on the ceiling! Many parts of a Nyonya house is found here. Here the window panels artfully hang on the ceiling. Very homely like The Food Republics on the top floor of Vivo City, Singapore.
Pai Tee - The cups and the condiments

Pai Tee - The cups and the condiments

Pai Tee - The cups and condiments of chopped fried eggs, cucumbers and parsley, Seang Kuang (turnip), Chili and chili sauce.
A work of art - A finished Pai Tee

A work of art - A finished Pai Tee

A finished product - Pai Tee DIY! The taste is as lovely as it looks. The the 'fine dining' of fried popiah!
Fried Tenggiri Steak garnish with fiery chili

Fried Tenggiri Steak garnish with fiery chili

Fried Tenggiri steak with chili. The chili is sweetish with lots of chopped big oinions and garlic. The fish is fresh favourful.
Ayam Pongteh

Ayam Pongteh

This Ayam Pongteh is quite unigue. It is indeed the Nyonya version of the common soya sauce chicken with potatoes. The taste is sweet and mildly spicy from keluak. The chicken and potatoes are soft but not soggy.
Keluah Bendi/Lady Fingers

Keluah Bendi/Lady Fingers

Normally we have Bendi with sambal belachan. It is interesting to have keluah as garnishing. Keluah if you have never tasted before is very mildly like black bean paste and mildly spicy too.
Cincaluk Platter

Cincaluk Platter

The Cincaluk Platter of fried chicken, prawn and sotong is my favourite. This is a variation of the items marinated with Nam Yee (fermented bean curd) or Guiness Stout. The items are crispy with hint of cincaluk and of course salty. Excellent to go with some cold beers!

Included in the menu is Stir Fried Sweet Potato Leave with keluah sambal. The keluah give this dish a unique taste as we are more familiar with the leave fried with sambal belacan.

Generally, it was a very unique and interesting dining experience as keluah is used in most of the dishes. Keluah ingredient is the specialty of Malaccan nyonya.
The restaurant is tastefully decorated with pieces from a normal Nyonya house. It is lovely and homely. The owner and host Ms Stephanie with a friendly and warm hospitality makes your dining a perfect evening.
Even the name of the restaurant has its unique origin but I am not going to tell you here. Haha! Please visit www.thetranquerah.com for the answer and more information.

Based on the above menu for 5 persons together with steamed rice and drinks, per head expenditure is about RM40.00.

Happy Dining at The Tranquerah!
