Hiap Joo Bakery, one of the oldest and famous bakery in Johor. It has been in operation since 1919 selling freshly baked malt-flavoured breads and aromatic banana cakes. One of the most prominent icon of Hiap Joo Bakery is the wood fired oven where they still employed traditional method of making the pastry.

It was located minutes walk away from city square johor. You can easily spot queue snaking outside the stall waiting for the freshly baked breads and cakes.

The aroma was simply too tempting to resist. Especially for those who has already try their goodness.

This goodness was from this traditional wood fired oven. Perhaps it’s this traditional feel that makes the cakes even more tempting. We bought the coconut buns and the banana cakes. The banana cake was really soft and fluffy. The banana cakes was lightly sweeten, which makes it healthy. The top of the banana cake was slightly toasted to golden brown, giving it more texture.

Banana Cakes Big ( RM9.60)

The coconut buns was really too yummy to care about calories. It was generously filled with grated coconut. The buns are really soft inside and toasted on the outside. It sold out really too quickly. I have too many failed attempt before this successful try. So be early!!

It’s really a bakery to visit. Too much wonder in this traditional bakery. Do come early as the pastries sold out real fast!

Coconut ice-cream has always been the talk when we mentioned about chatuchak weekend market. Almost all who visit will be hooked on by the refreshing and tasty ice cream. Now, we no longer have to take a plane to satisfy our craving. Sangkaya, a Malaysian founded ice cream brand specialized in coconut ice cream is here to save us!

I find came across Sangkaya in mount Austin, their first outlet in Johor. They have many several outlets in Malaysia. Mount Austin outlet has a very simple decoration and lesser crowd due to the problem of accessibility. Thus, it was not long before they expand their second Johor outlet in Jalan Dhoby, which is minutes walk from the JB city square.

Although mount austin was slightly less accessible and less fancy looking, it was spacious and quiet. A place suitable for relaxing.

In my recent visit to the Jalan Dhoby outlet, I was admired by the pretty decoration and shopfront. The entire café was fully occupied and we have to wait for 15 mins to get a little corner to eat.

There is a standing table outside the café to satisfy smokers who want to have dessert while taking a puff.

Entering the café makes you entered seeing so many coconuts within the refrigerator, waiting for you to consume it.

Pretty Decoration

There are new items being launched (Coconut Shake). The process is very easy. You order that the order point and collect it at the collection point. Beside the collection point, you will see the boxes of topping for you to add to your ice cream. New Flavour Of Coconut ShakeOrder PointCollection Point

Choice of Toppings

Upon ordering the signature, you will be entitled to add 3 toppings to it. For me, I have chosen to add sweet corn, cornflakes and kidney beans. The topping helps to provide texture to the ice cream. The coconut ice cream was really creamy and refreshing. It feels really shiok consuming it.

The coconut shake was another big hit for us. It was cooling and creamy .You can even taste bits of coconut meats within.

To brave through the hot weather or to satisfy your coconut ice cream craving, drop by and have a try.

Going green is in, and plant-based choices these days are aplenty. Now, eating green no longer is restricted to eating salad. Looking for a fine dining restaurant with mouth-watering
vegetarian food?

Those want to have gourmet foods in a relaxed ambience can find pleasure in exploring Vegetalk Gourmet which make both the vegetarians and non-vegetarians ask for more. Vegetalk Gourmet was situated in Taman Molek where many hips café was situated, thus being easily accessible.

When you entered the restaurants, it feels very spacious and brightly lit. The staffs are fast to guide you to the seats and present you their menu.

Upon looking at the menu, there is a wide variety of food. They all look appetizing and delicious. Unlike those vegetarian mixed rice we usually see.

Enclosed herewith the menu for your reference to see how vegetarian food can be that deliciously-looking.

These are what we ordered: Tomato Corn Chowder (RM 9.80), Fruit Salad (RM 13.80), Spiral Pasta Salad (RM 10.80), Hawaiian Pizza (RM 21.80), Cod Fish with Tomato Chilli Spaghetti (RM 23.90), Pineapple Orange Juice (RM 7.80) & Guava Apple Juice (RM 6.90). My favourite was the cod fish with spaghetti.

Tomato Corn Chowder (RM 9.80)

I must say that the tomato corn chowder did well as appetizer as the sweet and sour chowder did help to draw out our hungry taste bud.

Cod Fish with Tomato Chilli Spaghetti (RM 23.90):The cod fish was made of the soya beans. It was soft, light and chewy. It even has light soya fragrance. The chilli tomato spaghetti was chewy yet soft. Despite its name, it does not have any spiciness at all.

Hawaiian Pizza (RM 21.80):The crust was thin and crispy. It was topped with generous amount of cheese. However, I find the serving of pineapple and meat small. Furthermore, it would be nicer that mock ham was used instead of “crispy chicken cube” was the crispy
cube does not stick well to the pizza and tend to be overly fried.

Spiral Pasta Salad (RM 10.80):The pasta was chewy. It was topped with lettuces, olives and mayonnaise sauce. I personally don’t fancy it as I’m not a fan of mayonnaise.

Fruit Salad (RM 13.80), Pineapple Orange Juice (RM 7.80) & Guava Apple Juice (RM 6.90)

These fruit series was very refreshing as the fruits used were very fresh and sweet.

FIRST CATS CAFE IN JB OK May 19, 2016

Café-hopping has been the talk of town for quite a few months now and cafes of all kinds and themes have been sprouting up in Singapore. This café craze has finally reach JB. If you find it too boring to just have high tea, why not visit the cat café for a brand new experience - an experience to enjoy cuddling the furry creatures while drinking high tea.

The cats café is the first cat café to be opened in Johor Bahru. It carries the theme of “Cats At Their Sanctuary” where you can join playing with café while having meal in the café. This cat café was situated in the residential area as it was converted from a mansion to a café.

Upon entering the place, all the staffs greet you with super friendly smile and guide you to your seat. Furthermore, they will explain some cat rules in the café to you so that you can have fun in the café without hurting any cats unintentionally.Rules For the Cafe

The cats are all fluffy and cute. Love the fact that this cat cafe actually has rules to make sure customers are protected from cat scratches and also the safety of our bags.

The atmosphere in the cafe is super cosy and spacious to allow cats and visitors to roam around.

This cat café also sell food for the customers to fill their tummy. We order waffle and pizza to fill our tummy and play with the cats while waiting. The menu and even the cushion covers were also in cute cats pictures to go with the theme. Cute Menu

Time to play with these fluffy creatures~

Time to enjoy the food~

Cats Signature Waffle (RM 15.90) – To be honest, it was not to my liking due to the artificial taste of the strawberry syrup and chocolate syrup used. Furthermore, I find the cake soft but lag the fluffiness which makes it very “gelat” after some bites. The waffle tends to be very dry towards the end. However, I do appreciate the effort by the owner to make this waffle very pretty and instagram worthy.

Hawaiian Pizza (RM 19.90) - It taste fairly decent with thin crust and generous serving of ham and pineapple slices. Even the toilet was cute.

To conclude, I would not go to this cats café for the food. But will definitely re-visit this place for the cute companion (cats) and the cosy environment to be in lol

In look for pretty ice-cream? Visit this ice-cream palor for a beautiful tasting experience.

Lis gelato which stands of "LOVE IS SIMPLE" serves incredible beautiful ice cream " Love is simple" which cost about RM 12 for one scoop with crispy cotton candy or RM20 for two scoop. I'm am sure many girl falls for this ice cream upon looking at the photos. The crispy cotton candy was basically rose meringue.

But to be honest, it only look nice, the ice cream was really disappointing as it was way too milky and "wet" where it melts too quickly.

Love is simple (RM 12.90)

Single Scoop Taro Ice-cream (RM 9)

I believe it is worth only once to take the photo, but i would not visit again.
