Steamboat on this rainy weather is always a perfect idea, moreover on a Friday night. Cool right!! You can spend time with your friends & family until late night without worrying about waking up early for class/work. This round we went Xing Hotpot & BBQ, located at C180, Cheras. This Hotpot & BBQ restaurant offers unique dining experiences compared to some other steamboat restaurant. What is so unique about this steamboat & BBQ restaurant? You get a chance to catch your own Prawns, Escargort and Lala from the aquarium tank by yourself for the steamboat and BBQ. But be careful as the prawns will be flying all over the area while you are trying to catch it. Hahahaha!! We were greeted upon entering and the staff seated us in the table. A couple of people occupied the restaurant when we arrived at 6.30pm but it was filling up soon later on. It was an open-air concept restaurant and I guess this concept is perfect to have a BBQ and steamboat as it has good air ventilation and make the dining experience enjoyable.

We chose Tom Yum & Chicken Soup for the steamboat and both of it tasted equally good. Seafood's are good to have with Tom Yum while Chicken Soup is good to have with all the vegetables and tofu.

Beverage Choices (Herbal Tea, Orange Tea, Lemon Tea and Chinese Tea). I loved their Orange Tea and Herbal Tea. Good to have with Steamboat & BBQ.

Few dishes to have while waiting for the Steamboat and BBQ to be ready (Nuggets, Fries, Squid Rings, Salad, Chicken Wings, Prawns, Noodles and Fried Rice)

BBQ meats are good, it has it’s own flavour and doesn’t require any sauce to go with. All BBQ meats are marinated with the spices except Satay and Taufu.

Plenty of seafood choices (Prawn, Oyster, Lala, Crab, Shellfish, Squid, Snails, Fish and Scallops)

Grilled Prawns was meaty and juicy. We used fresh prawns to do BBQ so it was yum. Grilled Oyster is good to have too.

It was a good dinner for us. Friendly service and good hospitality which is very rare to expect in some Steamboat restaurant. Very frequent in refilling the ingredients except the live prawns. I think it is only refilled a couple of times during our entire stay and I manage to get some of it as I am one of the earliest customers of the day. My favorites are Prawn, Tom Yum & Chicken Soup, Crab, Mushroom and Cheese Taufu.

Thanks for the delicious food!!

Hopp Cafe @ Bandar Sunway Smile May 05, 2016

Categories : Malaysian variety | Western variety | Café | Pizza/Pasta | Seafood

I have never been to the Bandar Sunway area before, but I heard that the area has some good cafe's like GARAGE 51, SOFTCORE and HOPP CAFE. We wanted to try Hopp Cafe and have some proper dinner. Hopp Cafe is loacted at Nadayu 28 Dagang. They serve Pasta, Pizza, Paella, Malaysian Cuisine, Beverages, Soup & Snacks and Desserts. We were greeted upon entering and we choose our own place to sit. It was crowded when we arrived at 7.30pm. The ambiance of the cafe was good and they have different type of seating for everyone’s preferences. We ordered Chicken Paella and Tomato Seafood Pasta.

Chicken Paella was delicious but the portion was rather small for him. It takes 20 minutes to get the Chicken Paella and the waiting time is stated in the menu.

Chicken Paella @ RM 15.90

Pasta was so yummy. I am not a big fan of Tomato Base Spaghetti but I was so in love with this pasta. The pasta was cooked beautifully and the sauce goes perfectly well. Moreover, they are generous with the seafood's portion too.

Tomato Seafood Pasta @ RM 19.90

It was a super good dinner for me. Foods are delicious, friendly & Fast service. The staffs are very good at recommending the foods to the customers and I must also thank one of the staff for his good recommendation. Thank You MR. STRANGER !!

Hong Kong Hot Pot @ Bangsar Smile May 05, 2016

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Steamboat/Hotpot

Good News Everyone!! There is a new Hot Pot restaurant opened in Bangsar to satisfy people’s cravings on Hot Pot/Steamboat. The weather starts to cool down now after the terrific hot weather in the past few months .So now you can indulge yourself with Hot Pot with no worries right? Hong Kong Hot Pot is located at Level 2, Telawi Square ( Next To Piggy Tail Restaurant). It is an Ala-Cate Steamboat restaurant. We were greeted upon entering and a couple of people occupied the restaurant when we arrived but it was filling up soon later on. The ambiance of the restaurant was good and they have a private seating area as well. So if you wanted to enjoy your steamboat in a private area this restaurant can be one of your choice as well.

Herbal Drink is a good idea to indulge in while eating steamboat. It was awesome and all of us loved it.

Herbal Drink @ RM 23

Chinese Tea was good too. It is a high quality Chinese Tea compare to the normal Chinese Tea you can get in any Kopitiam restaurant.

Chinese Tea @ RM 3.50

We were served with 4 types of soup for the steamboat. Sakura Pork Bone Soup (RM 23), Imported HK Century Egg & Coriander (RM 25), Szchuan Spicy (RM 25) and Pumpkin Soup Base (RM 25). All the soup tasted good but my personal favorite is their Sakura Pork Bone Soup and Pumpkin Soup Base. The Pumpkin Base soup is delicious while Sakura Pork Bone Soup was simple yet tasty. If you choose Mix Soup Base (2 soups) like us, then it would cost RM 30 per pot. Spicy lovers you should go for their Szchuan Spicy Soup. It is too hot for me but my friend loved it.

4 Person Platter @ RM 68 per head.

It includes of Sakura Pork Slice, US premium Marble Beef Slice, Hong Kong Fried Fish Skin, Fresh Tiger Prawn, Korean Oyster, Local Bean Curd, Imported Hong Kong Bean Curd Roll, Fresh Handmade Prawn Meat Ball, Fresh Hand Made Squid Meat Ball, Fresh Hand Made Fish Meat Ball, Hong Kong Mushroom Pork Meat Ball, Hong Kong Crab Egg Meat Ball, Hand Made Chives Dumpling, Hand Made Prawn Dumpling, Needle mushroom, Abalone Mushroom, Japanese Udon and Hong Kong Yee Mee Noodle.

Some of the items I liked is their Hong Kong Fried Fish Skin, Fresh Tiger Prawn, Korean Oyster, Local Bean Curd, Imported Hong Kong Bean Curd Roll, Hong Kong Crab Egg Meat Ball, Hand Made Chives Dumpling, Hand Made Prawn Dumpling and Hong Kong Yee Mee Noodle.

All the items in the platter was fresh especially their Tiger Prawns and Oyster. In normal steamboat, the quality of fresh seafoods are just average but here we were served with high quality seafoods that I am pretty impressed with. The prawns are meaty and juicy. The Oyster has a very good texture and I loved it when the oyster just burst in my mouth. Moreover, I can feel the freshness of it when I bite it in my mouth.

I don't eat any internal organ so no comments on that.

It was a good dinner for us. It was my first time that I enjoyed the steamboat without any sauce as the soup was so flavourful. It absorbs the flavour from the soup when you cook the items in the soup. So when you eat it, you don't need any sauce to go with. I use 0% of seasoning/ sauce for the steamboat and I was surprised with that too. Friendly and humble hospitality that gives a very warm feeling to me.

Thanks for hosting us.

Indian Kitchen @ Bangsar Smile Apr 24, 2016

Categories : Indian | Restaurant | Vegetarian

I get to know about this restaurant during my visit to the Idly Only Cafe. I have stated in my Idly Only Cafe post that Idly Only Cafe and Indian Kitchen Share the same premise. So when we went to dine-in at Idly Only Café, we were served with both restaurant menus and I was actually attracted to Indian Kitchen Set Lunch Menu.Priced reasonably for a piece of Tandoori Chicken + Naan + Chicken Curry + Condiments + Drinks at RM 15. The price range between RM 12- RM 20 for their set lunch, only valid on weekdays (12pm- 3pm). So I ordered Tandoori Set for Take away.

I decided to have the drink at the restaurant while waiting for my take-away food to be prepared. Bru Coffee was aromatic and it is heaven to have while waiting for the foods.

Bru Coffee (FOC)

Tandoori chicken was well tenderized and not overcooked. Meat breaks apart from the bone easily. It was lovely to eat together with the Naan. I also love their Paneer Curry that goes perfect with the Naan while their Chicken Curry was just average.

Tandoori Set @ RM 15

It was super good lunch. Delicious food with reasonable price. It is undeniable that this restaurant manages to pull the working people crowd in Bangsar Area for lunch. Sure drop by again for their set lunch. Actually only their Express Set Lunch is allowed to take away but the staff we ordered our food were unaware of it (New Boy) so he let us take away the Tandoori Set.

The Naan was good and not chewy, I liked it.

Idli Only Cafe @ Bangsar Smile Apr 24, 2016
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Indian | Café

My friends shared post about Idly Only Cafe in Facebook and I was hookd by it.Idly is one of my favorite food for Breakfast and so far I have only eaten the Normal Idly and Rava Idly. The names on the menu are pretty new to new, neither I heard it nor taste it before. Therefore, me and my sister planned to have it for lunch as both of us loves to eat Idly. Idly Only Cafe is located at Bangsar. They only serve Idly. Yeah!! Seriously. I am not kidding. The ambiance of the cafe was cozy. A couple of people occupied the cafe when we arrived at 1.30pm. Actually, Idly Only Cafe and Indian Kitchen share the same premise but they have a separate kitchen. We ordered Variety Idly Set and Buttermilk.

Buttermilk was medicore for me. They blend all the herbs & spices together rather than serving them as a whole (Cumin & Curry Leaf) So it was quite unpleasant to drink for me.

Buttermilk @ RM 4

After waited for about 15 minutes, our Idly was served. The set inclusive of Normal Idly, Rava Idly, Masala Idly and Butter Podi Idly. The Idly was soft and among all the varieties of Idly, I loved their Butter Podi Idly the most. It was something new but it never fails to impress me. So Gooood!!

Variety Idly Set @ RM 30

Condiments to eat with the Idly. Tomato Chutney, Coconut Chutney, Sambar and Podi. I liked to eat my Idly with Sambar, Tomato Chutney and Podi.

It was a good lunch for us. In my opinion, it is worth trying. RM 30 for a set of Idly may sound expensive but if you really do a simple mathematic calculation, I guess it is not that pricy though. So I will definitely drop by again for their Butter Podi Idly, Podi, Sambar and Tomato Chutney.
