Momofuku-Inspired Pork Buns

Momofuku-Inspired Pork Buns

Momofuku-Inspired Pork Buns RM21
Chinese-style braised pork belly slices with pickled cucumber, sandwiched in steamed flower mantao

Came in a bamboo basket much like the dim sum, these two pieces of fatty pork belly were not for the health conscious patrons. Big thanks to the addition of sour pickled cucumber, greasiness of that soft melting pork fat has lowered to a more acceptable range. Portion was small enough to be finished in few bites but for those pork meat die hard fans out there, this would very much worth the price.

Spaghetti Carbonara

Spaghetti Carbonara

Spaghetti Carbonara RM26
made the traditional way with pancetta chunks & roughly-torn proscuitto, tossed in cream & topped with a raw egg yolk

Procuitto or Parma ham is a dry-cured ham that is usually sliced thin and served uncooked while pancetta chunk is a spiced, salted and dry-cured pork belly. Flavourful enough as they preserved the pork meat as it is and chewy enough for you sink the teeth between meat lines. Yet, pardon this lady for not understanding the art of dry-cured meat and seek more sips of the sauce in order to swallow that dry, salted meat. Distinct from the usual carbonara, raw egg yolk was being presented in front of my eyes which later has added the extra smoothness to the spaghetti.
Though portion was not that huge, I needed Jason's help in order to finish this plate.

We were disappointed to learn that the afternoon tea set were sold out at 4pm with less than one third of the seats occupied. Jason then suggested to try out their March promotion of Buy 3 for 2. The cakes were of soft textures and low sweetness level. Average with nothing to wow about.

To be frank, I'm not a fan of Korean food, at least not in Malaysia, tried a few times but it just doesn't click. Authentic Korean cuisine back at their country during my visit last year was not bad though, especially their Kimchi, taste so much better compared to here.
But still, how can my denial on that certain country of food influence my boyfriend's judgement? Hence, we have decided to give it a trial, whether it gains a yes or no in Jason's opinion.

Side Dishes

Side Dishes of Kimchi Cabbage, Kimchi Cucumber, Bean Sprouts and Pumpkin Pancake.
I would push the Kimchi Cabbage aside in some Korean restaurants because of its overly pungent flavor but not in Won Korean Dining. This was definitely not my best Kimchi, but for someone who didn't like Kimchi to get her plate refilled, I think they did a pretty good job.

Love might not be the word, but a simple yes and nod will do. Again, it was balanced with spiciness and natural taste of the ingredients.

Salted olive oil, spicy bean paste, raw garlic and green chili.
Samgyupsal (Roast Pork Belly)

Samgyupsal (Roast Pork Belly)

Samgyupsal (Roast Pork Belly) RM30 each
Minimum 2 portion to place the order. Such beautiful texture of the meat to feast the eyes.

Aromatic with crisp texture, succulent yet not that oily at the same time.

In Korean restaurant, whenever one orders grilled meat, the attentive staffs would always drop by, check on the meat, overturn it and even cut it into smaller pieces for easier consumption. Though this might be a point of good services, but it is not in my opinion. I wouldn't want anyone to interrupt us during conversation then we have got this very awkward moment of staring into each other or simply looking at the action of the staff. That.Silent.Moment.

With green lettuce as base, we've added in julienne veges then mix and match the sauces before putting the delicious pork belly meat on top.

We have also tried another way of eating by simply dipping it into salted olive oil.

Overall, it was a good Korean dining experience for both Jason and me. Nothing much to complain about.

Sumo Onigiri @Kuchai Lama OK Aug 12, 2013

Established on last year, Sumo Onigiri has 2 branches at Damansara Utama and Kuchai Lama.
Last week, we dropped by its Kuchai Lama branch occupying only half of the shop unit.

There are 3 types of seating at Kuchai Lama branch; whether to face beautiful red leaves scene, chat with friends or just sit at the bar counter watching the preparation process.

A choice made as suggested by the staff.

Add another RM2 for a set meal including chawanmushi and miso soup.
Green tea was on separate order.
Miso Soup

Miso Soup

Miso soup of spring onion, seaweed and tofu
Mediocre, but enough to warm the stomach.
Chawanmushi was smooth in texture yet expect no ingredient but plain steamed egg.

Would be better if the background music just stick on Japanese song only in creating the ambience of Japan.

Overall, the food was tasty with fast preparation time.
However, the service was poor.
Staffs struggling to understand us while we asked for the mango tango cake several times.
