Heartless Salad  Cry Oct 06, 2013
Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Bar & Pub | Steaks / Chops | Burgers / Sandwiches

Dropped by The Social for a couple of drinks after our dinner and thought we would share a salad. The only really vegetarian option (apart from the mushroom on toast) was this Grilled vegetables and avocado salad. It sounded pretty good on paper, but when it arrived, we felt a little bit puzzled.

Where are the grilled veges? All I could see were lettuce leaves and some avocado and tomatoes.

Nope, still plenty of leaves but that's about it.

There were a few pathetic pieces of avocado, and at the bottom, one sad piece of grilled eggplant, and one piece of grilled capsicum along with about 10 pine nuts. Don't even get me started with the balsamic dressing, it was quite horrendous really.

For RM20++ I felt that this was definitely a rip off. A salad can't be so hard to be put together, heck, I do better ones at home with just a fraction of the price. *facepalm* I guess the social is only good for drinking and chilling, not so much for eating. As my other half mentioned, if you can't even do a salad well, what hope do you have in the other courses?

Mee Rebus Cry Sep 29, 2013

I do love my mee rebus and will usually try to order it at a mamak/nasi kandar place. This was a late night supper after an event and craving for something with gravy I ordered this.

It looks pretty good with sizable portion, with plenty of toppings. While I enjoyed munching on the fried tofu and the like and slurping the noodles, the gravy was a little under seasoned and was on the thin side. The addition of lime juice didn't help. I couldn't finish it, which is rare for a noodle addict for me.

Worst Pie Ever Cry Sep 11, 2013

Had a meeting at Delicious 1 Utama and decided to ordered a Chicken and Leek Pie because I didn't want anything heavy. And this pathetic looking thing arrived at the table. You can tell straightaway it's not going to be great, but I didn't think it would be this horrible!

Soggy pastry, dry chicken, hardly any trace of leek. Bland cream sauce on the side, and a few lettuce leaves to count as "salad" All that for RM21. Wow. Sorry Delicious, I think you should consider changing the name as this certainly doesn't live up to it. Even the Four N Twenty Meat Pies from the supermarkets (in Oz) tastes much better than this.

Oh, I also ordered a flat white that came with more foam than a cappucino. Tsk. And they forgot my coffee order initially, even though the place wasn't busy. It was pretty hard to get the staff's attention too, which was annoying.

Never again!

Where's the passion? Cry Sep 11, 2013

I really don't get why Chili's is so popular here in Malaysia. The Midvalley branch is almost always full and one thing I will say is people are probably not there for the food (or they just have untrained palate for Western food). I have always told the other half going to Chili's is a bad idea but alas he does like his Nachos and I think Chili's does an ok version.

He is definitely not picky about his nachos, as I can think of many other places that do better nachos. The amount of sour cream, salsa and guacamole (in fact I don't even remember if there was any) is just sad really.

But nothing is worse than my grilled lamb chop. I know that ordering red meat in KL is generally not a good idea it's not a reputable place like say PRIME, but this was really pathetic.

Firstly, I have asked for the lamb to be cooked to medium, but the middle was practically raw. There was already not much meat to start with. The garlic bread tasted stale and tired. The vegetables were also pretty sad looking. The only saving grace was the mash, while it's not as creamy as I liked, at least it was seasoned perfectly and it had a little bit of skin in it which is fine by me (more nutrients).

I don't know about you but whenever I have a bad meal, it basically spoils my mood. So, the other half now know this place is banned for good. Hah. Oh, and that meal was over RM100 with 2 glasses of wine. Waste of money.

Never again! Cry Jul 04, 2012

This was my second visit to Meatworks in Solaris Mont Kiara, although it was the first time I've ordered a piece of steak there (which is, supposedly what they specialise in right?) Went there with a bottle of red (they charge a corkage of RM10 for each bottle, not too bad) and off we went choosing our dishes. I went with a piece of Rib eye, medium rare.

As you can see in the photo, the steak is actually cooked to the right doneness. However, everything on the plate was cold. The side dishes, the accompanying sauces, the meat. I wonder if it's because of poor time management, or if they have a super cold kitchen in there? Of course, I asked for it to be reheated without cooking the meat further. It did return a fraction warmer, but that was it.

How about the meat, you ask? Well I have no idea where they source their meat from but it didn't appear to be a very good cut of Rib eye. Way too much sinew, and too much fat. Not those Wagyu-marbled melt in your mouth type but the one you spend 5 minutes chewing and ended up having to spit it out. Eww.

I shall also mention that the mash tastes suspiciously like instant mash. It's very disapppointing, since it's not the hardest thing to make anyway.

For RM58 (+RM5 for the mustard sauce without even a hint of mustard in it, and once again tasted very 'instant') , this dish is just not worth the money. Incidentally, my friend had a T-bone steak that was almost entirely made of fat. Never again!

The service was rather... difficult, as we were seated almost at a blind spot so each time when we have to get someone's attention we practically had to leap on the table. Not good.
