Durian Pancake

Durian Pancake

Walking in Mid Valley the whole afternoon makes me hungry again. It's 4pm and I plan to have a cup of tea and have some titbits. I came across this place and decided to go in. On their menu, there's this photo of this pancake which is made of durian. My curiosity caught me again and I ordered the Durian Pancake. When it's been served to me, I noticed it is served cold; 3 bite-sized cubes, decorated with peppermint leaf and chocolate syrup spread zig-zag across the plate

I used my fork to break it apart and I can see the gooey durian paste stretching out from the remaining of the pancake. The durian paste is surrounded with white cream and covered with a thin crepe. When dipped with the chocolate syrup, it was a dessert to behold. I never thought it would tasted so good in the mouth. The durian is fresh and sweet (although I prefer bitter) and it goes well with the chocolate syrup and cream. You won't feel bloated from the first bite till the last. Don't believe me? Then you should give it a try tongue

Xiu Loong Bao (Shanghainese steamed meat dumpling)

Xiu Loong Bao (Shanghainese steamed meat dumpling)

A chinese cuisine famous for its' Xiu Loong Bao (Shanghainese steamed meat dumpling). Well, the size was a bit too small to my liking (I need to consume at least 2 servings to quench my cravings but nonetheless it is not that cheap too). The best part is there are broth and meat contained inside with no leaks! Topped together with a slices of ginger soaked in vinegar, it is a taste you won't forget easily. A bite of the dumpling will lead to the broth flowing out into your mouth while you gleefully chewing the meat within. Please be warned that the broth is very hot, so please be careful when eating it. You don't want to have a swollen tongue, do you? tongue

Japanese Cucumber

Japanese Cucumber

Whenever there is Din Tai Fung, there will be "Xiu Loong Bao" (Steamed meat dumpling) or their infamous Noodle Soup with Fried Pork Chop and Pork Chop Fried Rice but there is one appetizer which is worth talking about. I would like to introduce the Japanese Cucumber, simple dish but tasty.

I could say that it is my favourite! The cold cucumber must be eaten right after it is served so that you could taste and feel the chill of cucumber that would cool your senses. Do not ever leave it to get warm as it will spoil the whole dish. It is slightly spicy due to the thin layer of chilli oil coated on top and mostly very refreshing, sweet and a great starter before your main dish. It really opens up your appetite. lol

What you pay is what you get? OK Dec 07, 2011

NZ/AUS Prime Fillet

NZ/AUS Prime Fillet

Castell Restaurant has been here for quite some time and has been the talk-of-the-town in recent years but my girlfriend and I was quite disappointed things turn out to be. Maybe i used an offer coupon I bought from a website which actually make my food turn out bad. As the saying goes "What you pay is what you get".
The appetizers

The appetizers

I must say the Fresh Bread with Balsamic Vinegar and Olive Oil is a great appetizer just before the main dish but the Mushroom Cheese Bruschetta was quite a letdown as it was soggy and salty. The Prime Fillet NZ/AUS – tenderloin fillet with sherry sauce is even worse. I requested for medium and but it came out almost rare and seriously the meat was not tender and I was like chewing leather. They cooked it again for me but I was already not in the mood. The Grilled Salmon was so-so, nothing really to talk about.

Choc Chip Hazelnut Friands

Choc Chip Hazelnut Friands

The only thing that is worthy to talk about is their desserts. Apple Almond Crumble and Choc Chip Hazelnut Friands was out of the earth. The ice cream goes well with the crumble. It really melts in your mouth leaving a pleasant aftertaste. Choc Chip Hazelnut Friands was prepared hot and it has half melted chocolate chip and hazelnut in it. A simple bite with ice cream, just make my day.

Seriously, if it had not been the desserts, definitely I would not be going back there again.

Udon Soup

Udon Soup

Kagawa Prefecture is well known for its' wheat noodles (Sanuki Udon) and Taman Desa is also famous for Sanuki Udon too. A lot of locals staying around the area talks about it and I was curious to see what's the fuss. So my girlfriend and I went to this hidden gem located in a quiet neighbourhood shoplot in Taman Bukit Desa.
Udon with Egg

Kakiage

Kakiage

It was packed by people during lunch hours. When we got our seats, we order Udon with Egg, Udon Soup, Kakiage and Karaage (Chicken). The texture of the udon is thick but smooth. The kakiage is fried to crisp and it tastes really good when dipped into mayonnaise mixed together with wasabi. Yes, you heard that right! lol
Chicken Kaarage

Chicken Kaarage

The chicken karaage was juicy, crispy and meaty. Regretted we have no chance to try on the shiitake yakitori, momo (leg meat) yakitori, kawa (skin) yakitori and a few others. It is only available in the evening after 6pm. Surely I will go back again for the yakitori's. Did I mention that the green tea only cost RM1 and it can be refill? smile
