ChopstiX OK Feb 09, 2014
Categories : Malaysian variety | Restaurant | Noodles

check out ChopstiX, where Malaysian noodles steal a soup-soaked spotlight.

Nyonya curry asam laksa, a bit of a hybrid recipe; the broth could be more savory, but a request for extra cockles makes this nourishing enough. Can't really complain.

The remainder of ChopstiX's menu includes chicken floss prawn noodles, fish ball loh shi fun & Marmite chicken rice; nothing wild, but the office crowd in this parking's-impossible neighborhood isn't actually the adventurous sort, right?

Prices shouldn't spark protests at ChopstiX: Nothing exceeds RM6, for now.

Fuku Fuku OK Jan 29, 2014
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Seafood

Fuku Fuku, affiliated to the enduring Fukuya restaurant

Fuku Fuku's offerings are basic for now; the focus might be steamed rice (served in bamboo baskets for dine-in customers), partnered with the likes of eel & soft-shell crab (RM28 nett).

Plenty of prepacked sushi, convenient for takeaway. Udon & soba are also available here.

Hamky Panky OK Jan 29, 2014
Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Pizza/Pasta | Burgers / Sandwiches

Hamky Panky (have to love that name), an unabashedly porky stall at the Grocerant's non-halal section of its food hall, beside Lam's Kitchen & Sun Huat Kee.

Sandwiches rank high among Hamky Panky's stars; customize your own, filling fresh focaccia with murderously massive slices of roast pork, cheddar cheese & BBQ sauce for only RM13.80.

Ciabatta with German black forest ham, streaky bacon & honey mustard. Substantial in size, satisfying in flavor. Note: There's now also a Hamky Panky at Empire Gallery's Jaya Grocer.

Hamky Panky serves a real whopper of a pork burger (RM19.80), saturated in savory juices.

Virtue or vice? Opt for spinach salad or French fries to complement the burger.

Triways OK Jan 20, 2014
Categories : Malaysian variety | Western variety | Café | Burgers / Sandwiches | Noodles

Holiday adorers & caffeine addicts alike might like Triways Cafe, which combines a TTDI travel agency with a coffeehouse.

Big & blanketed in sunlight; even if you're not here to book a vacation, feel free to pop in for cakes & a caffe latte.

The best bet here's the Maltesers chocolate cake, delightfully creamy & delectably rich.

Everything else in the chiller looks reasonably tempting enough for a teatime treat.

Coffee's not half-bad; a little too hot when served, but worth the wait to sip.

My Coffee Cafe OK Jan 20, 2014
Categories : Western variety | Café | Pizza/Pasta | Vegetarian

Moving on to Sri Petaling: this neighborhood might offer scarce surprises for drinking & dining, but My Coffee Cafe is one of them.

The menu's extensive; standouts include a slider platter with beef, lamb & chicken patties.

Not often seen in the Klang Valley: Leggara Pizza, a crispy-crust rendition made with light Romano dough, with a distinctive hole in the middle. My Coffee Cafe serves this topped with mozzarella, marinated santos tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, garlic & basil leaves for RM14++.

What about the coffee? Not quite what it seems here; for an Asian-themed caffeine adventure, this "Thai coffee" (RM5++) comes looking like any other ...

... but a few sips reveal sticks of lemongrass within, adding an unanticipated aroma.

The final curveball: the availability of wine by both glass & bottle. The liquor menu isn't handed to customers who come at noon, but it can be requested.
