Trust a Singaporean? Cry Jun 29, 2012

I should've really known better than to order anything that claims to be Singaporean. The noodles were too soggy and quite tasteless. There were 2 pieces of shrimp which were quite tasteless as well (at least they didn't taste bad), and some pieces of pork that salvaged the dish a little.

The belacan was very good though, but it didn't manage to turn my frown around. I can't tell if I was more disappointed with the lousy lunch, or with my lousy decision to trust something Singaporean.

Quite a disappointment from a fine Italian restaurant. I expect that if a restaurant dares to serve veal, they should at least do justice to the expensive meat. The meat was terribly dry and tough, and the sauce tasted overly salty.

The portion looked big but there's really a lot of bone in there, which would've been fine with me if it at least tasted good.

Prego has done it again... and I don't mean it in a good context, this time. From my experience, their dishes tend to be either very good, or rather subpar. This time, I got a subpar dish.

My bolognaise ragu nostrano (chunky braised beef with oregano and tomato) was first and foremost tough and dry on the inside. The sauce was a little too sour (though ample), and had too much oregano.

The pasta wasn't al dente at all - in fact it was extremely mushy. It seemed like they were trying to make risotto (and not even a good one at that). Quite a plate of disappointment, especially considering the price.

This "original recipe" wasabi bacon pasta sounded really good on paper, but I'm sad to announce that the appeal ends pretty much there.

First of all, I didn't taste any wasabi at all. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Second problem, the bacon was so tough. Despite the relatively generous quantity, I couldn't help but be utterly and completely disappointed. Flavour-wise, the bacon wasn't bad at all - salty and full of that "oily porky" flavour.

The pasta was overly soaked in sauce that tasted neither eggy nor milky. It was just tasteless creaminess that I forced myself to finish because I paid for it. The lettuce and tomato wedges were completely out of place. The tomato was super hot and added nothing but some sourness that didn't match the dish.

The dish could've been so much better if the bacon was tender, and they just kept it simple with a pomodoro sauce instead.

Spending per head: Approximately RM20+

Prego seems to have a tendency to disappoint me on the most basic of Italian dishes. It is beyond me how a proper (and reputable) Italian restaurant can mess up a calzone so badly.

First of all, the shell was terribly try, coarse, and flavourless. It was difficult to cut through and the filling didn't even hold it up - because there was barely any filling. One-dimensional tomato sauce (granted, it was rich; but boring) and not nearly enough cheese. We hardly registered any meat in the filling!

Really, their calzone is just full of hot air.
