Nyonya chang Smile Dec 24, 2013

I typically prefer regular savoury bak chang as opposed to Nyonya chang, but I decided to give this one a try. Well, the rice was very very sticky and the filling was sweet and savoury at the same time, and in good quantity. Still, I prefer a more savoury version.

Rich and hearty yam cake Smile Dec 24, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook

Now, this is what yam cake is supposed to be like. Dense and heavy, full of chunky yam, and topped with dried shrimp. The flavour is very yammy, and you can't taste any cheap flour (that's commonly used as a filler to cheapen it). Served with sweet chilli sauce.

Beef noodles soup Smile Nov 26, 2013

I normally prefer my noodles in "kon lou" or "dry" (sauced) format, but I make an exception at this place... though mostly by force (since they don't even serve dry version of their noodles); and for good reason. Their beef soup is the core of their offerings, their specialty. It's very rich in beefy flavours. They offer many varieties of the standard offerings (innards and meat of various types), but I typically opt for tenderloin and brisket - the lean stuff. Make no mistake, lean does not mean dry or tough; in fact it is the contrary - super tender and soft. Perhaps my favourite beef soup, and at a modest price.

Baba & Nyonya OK Nov 26, 2013

We were peckish while we were roaming Jonker Street in Malacca and decided to just try both the Baba laksa and the Nyonya laksa. I was hoping the review would be more exciting, but it pretty much boils down to this:

1. Baba laksa tastes pretty much like Katong laksa - aromatic coconut milk curry, spicy at the throat.
2. Nyonya laksa tastes pretty much like asam laksa - sour and spicy.

Both curries induced chokes of spices, and had a 3 pieces of shrimp, various types of bean curd, and a little bit of fish cake. Overall, not much to eat, not exciting, and overpriced. Try out of curiosity, but don't bother for any other reason.

Pineapple Tart Smile Dec 31, 2013

I really ove pineapple tart, at the same time, I know how painful to actually make one yourself. The crust was thick but crumbly, just make sure you have a bowl with you to finish off the crumbs. The fillings was just nice, not too sweet and not too sour.
