Pork noodle @ Ming Tien OK Sep 28, 2012
Categories : Chinese | Food court | Noodles

Came by at Ming Tien for lunch one fine afternoon, as I have a meeting with a client here. After the meeting, I decided to eat around the area as car parks are hard to find in PJ area during lunch hour.

Ming tien was a good choice as it offers many varieties of food even during the day.

I ordered the pork ball noodle, which is known in Cantonese as Sam Kan Chong noodles. Unlike usual pork noodles, it does not have any internal pork organs.

In fact, it it served with some pork sausage and fish paste. I ordered a regular dry mee-bihun which costs RM4.50.

Surprisingly the soup was not exactly MSG laden, as it is cooked with the fish paste and vegetables. The fish paste was quite bouncy and the pork sausage was quite aromatic too.

The noodles have a good balance of soy sauce and dark caramel sauce. As with most yellow noodles in KL today, it has some lye water taste in it, although it is acceptable.

Mushroom soup @ Ani Sup Utara OK Sep 28, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Malay | Stall / Warung | Seafood

Ani Sup Utara is a franchise selling Malay cuisines, which primarily their menu focuses on soup, of course. A muslim colleague brought me here one day for dinner, after we went to a client's place.

I ordered the sup cendawan set (Mushroom soup set), which comes with the rice and soup. Unlike the western type of soup, this is actually not as thick and can be considered as broth.

The food did not take long to be served, as there was not many people. The soup was served boiling hot, so I had to wait for quite some time for it to cool down before I can actually sip some.

It also comes with half of a salted egg, and with the soup it is served with the white rice.
The sambal was actually very spicy. Even mixing a little with the rice was enough to to tingle my tongue.
For RM5.80 it is of decent price for such a meal.

Mediocre fried rice @ Nine 10 OK Sep 28, 2012

We had some Muslim colleagues joining us for lunch the other day. As we usually go for non-halal food, this cafe offers some decent Halal food.

Situated near the famous Lan Jie at USJ 1, Nine 10 has been around for quite some time, and it has served many of my colleagues for lunch and dinner for many years.
They serve beers at night and hosts football matches. It also has a nice pool table for those who would want to play pool.

Lunch time is much more toned down compared to dinner time of course.

They have set lunch, which comes with a main course and drinks. I ordered the Nasi Goreng Kampung (Kampung Fried Rice) with curry chicken. Ice lemon tea was ordered as beverage of choice.

The fried rice was mediocre only, as it lacks the spiciness and fried anchovies in the rice as expected from most Nasi Goreng Kampung. The curry chicken was quite nice, which is served well with the fried rice.

The ice lemon tea was not bad as well. It has a strong aroma, but it has too little ice that by the time I have finished my meal, the ice lemon tea was not cold anymore.

Red wine mee suah Cry Sep 27, 2012

Red wine mee suah

Red wine mee suah

My friend brought me over to this shop to try out their mee suah. He said, this is one of the only places that you can savour red wine mee suah. Hearing that, I was already feeling excited. How would a red wine mee suah taste like? So I ordered one bowl. The service was pretty bad as the waitress was showing a long face and literally shove the bowl of mee suah to my face @_@

Anyway the portion was decent for mee suah. There were some fried garlic sprinkled on top of it and mushroom slices as well. The minced meat was minimal, which was a shame. The red wine taste was much too overpowering and I can't taste anything else other than the red wine. It just killed the mee suah and in the end I couldn't finish the bowl. I did finish the rest of the mushroom although they were tasteless. Or probably it was te fault of the red wine.

After separating from my friend, I had to buy some buns to fill the rest of my stomach. I would not recommend this place at all.

Roast Pork @ SS4 Pasar Malam OK Sep 27, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Stall / Warung

I was walking by the pasar malam at SS4 the other day and I passed by this very popular stall. I took a peek and I saw many people queuing up for the roasted pork.

It looked really good, so I ordered a box to be eaten at home. I thought I would have been able to get it immediately as they had a few boxes of styrofoam full of chopped roasted pork ready. Seems like it was for another person who made a big order, so I had to wait. This explained the crowd at the stall which were waiting for theirs as well.

After waiting for around 15 minutes, I finally got my box of roasted pork.

The styrofoam full of roasted pork costed me RM20, which is decent in KL. Once I got home, I shared it with my family as it was still warm.

The skin crust was crispy when I first ate it mainly because it was still warm. The pork was done perfectly as it had a nice balance of fat and lean meat. It was a little saltier than average roast pork, but still acceptable if served with other dishes.

It was worth the wait, although it was not really that cheap.
