Set Lunch @ 3 Wise Monkeys OK Sep 14, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Western variety | Bar & Pub | Noodles | Group/Family dining

SetiaWalk at Puchong is a new mix development by SP Setia. Currently, the commercial/retail are starting their businesses at this place. At night, you will find a happening crowd due to the numerous amount of entertainment/bar/pub in this place. During the day, the place is quite. We passed by the 3 Wise Monkeys Bistro & Bar, and was rather attracted by their interior design. So, we went in to give it a try.

The environment was very cozy and American classic, with a twist of modernity. They hung lots of clock on their walls. There were like so many different types of classic wall clocks, and you also see American car number plates, and portraits of some famous American artists.

They also have some comfortable seating areas. At one corner, you will find couches with pillows, stools for people to lay back and relax. Or you can opt for the tall bar table and stool for the ultimate drinking alcohol feel. Or perhaps like us, we just wanted to have a nice meal, and we sat at the beautiful dining table and chairs. They also have outdoor seating area for those who like the al-fresco dining experience.

We ordered set lunch. The set lunch is priced at RM15.95. There are a few main dishes you can choose from, and the set comes with an iced lemon tea/soft drink, and a mushroom soup. The iced lemon tea was served without delays. However, i think the iced lemon tea lacked flavors. Somehow, I'm not tasting a lot of tea flavors in it.

Mushroom soup. Mushroom soup was served only half the size of the bowl. I do understand that this is a set lunch, and not necessary to give a full portion. However, serving the soup in only half the size of the standard soup bowl looks a bit unprofessional. The taste of the soup was not bad.

Nyonya Laksa. This is one of the main dishes. The Nyonya Laksa actually tasted very fragrant. There were some fish ball, cockles, medium sized prawns, beansprouts, and tau fu pok in the laksa. The soup was not too spicy but full of flavours. I think tamarind was used to add the tangy and sourish taste to the laksa.

Spaghetti Carbonara. Spaghetti carbonara is a cream sauce spaghetti served with some mushroom and bacon. The cream sauce was creamy and well seasoned. The bacon were fat. Some cheddar cheese was served and you can add it in according to your own preference. Spaghetti was cooked well. Overall, this is a nice dish.

Spaghetti Aglio Olio. This is a simple spaghetti cooked in olive oil, chilli flakes, garlic and mushroom. It was kind a salty. I wish they could put less salt in this dish. The garlic was pan fried to crispy and fragrant, and the chilli flakes were spicy.

I think this is a great place for people to hang out and have a nice drink. Their food is not bad, but can be improved to better. Service crews were attentive.

Lor Mee Cham @ O&S Restaurant Smile Sep 04, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Kopitiam | Noodles

O&S has been around for so many years, that as far as i could remember, I have been patronizing this coffee shop for more than 20 plus years. Most of the food stalls here serve some of the best Penang and local dishes in Klang Valley. Every weekend and lunch time, the place will be pack of people. Expect to share tables, because so many people came for their good food.
Lor Mee Cham

Lor Mee Cham

One of the stalls that you shouldn't miss out is the Penang Prawn Mee and Lor Mee stall. This stall has been around for so long, the man selling it has turned from a young man to a middle aged man. I ordered a bowl of Lor Mee Cham. Basically, Lor Mee Cham is half Lor Mee mix with half Prawn Mee broth. I like the thick and starchy broth of Lor Mee, and flavorful broth from the Prawn Mee. Be assured that even if you ordered just either one, they will definitely satisfy your craving for a good bowl of Lor Mee or Prawn Mee.

The Lor Mee Cham is serve with half an egg, mee hoon and mee, beansprouts, three medium size prawns, and blended garlic sambal. All ingredients are fresh, especially the medium size prawns. The prawns were so sweet!!!! And prawn meats were firm and bouncy. Since the prawns were so fresh, it is no doubt the broth was so nice and sweet. They say prawn mee broth is made of simmered pork bones and shells of the prawns.

The booster for this dish is the blended garlic sambal. This really add in so much Oomph to the dish. The combination of sweet prawn mee broth with thick and starch Lor Mee broth, plus the garlic sambal, is an ultimate winning dish. I can have a second bowl if i want to.

RM5.00 a bowl. Options to add more ingredients.

I hope this guy will keep selling Prawn Mee and Lor Mee until the age of 80. tonguelol

Gantetsu Hokkaido Ramen @ Isetan Cry Sep 02, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Food court | Ramen/Udon/Soba

Went to One Utama for movie, and visited the Isetan on level 2. Half of this level is dedicated to food and beverage outlets. We were confused as to why on the same level, there are more than one ramen outlet, not to mention there are three to four Japanese resturants for you to choose.

We settled down in Gantetsu, they claimed they are famous for Hokkaido Ramen. I have not been to Hokkaido, so I don't know the ramen in Gantetsu is authentic Hokkaido Ramen or not.

The space in this restaurant is quite limited, and with open kitchen. You can see the chefs preparing the food. Some of the decoration and table setting in the restaurant.

I ordered Tonkotsu set, which comes with a three pieces dumplings and a hot green tea. Priced at Rm 29. In this bowl of ramen is a few big pieces of pork slices, the hand made ramen with flavourful pork bones broth, seaweeds, egg, black fungus, scallions and white sesame seeds. The ramen itself is dissapointing, because I'm not having the nice springy texture I expected. Furthermore, the ramen is too thick to my liking. The broth is flavouful, but I suspect msg was added due to the after meal thirstiness I experienced. The pork slices given were lean meats, which I appreciate for not to worry about cholesterol issue.

This is King Charshu Miso Ramen. The soup is pork bone broth added with miso, therefore, the soup tasted creamier. The ingredients are almost similar to my Tonkotsu ramen, with added beansprouts, cabbage and grined ginger. Since it is Charshu, the pork slices are more flavouful compared to the Tonkotsu pork slices. This pork charshu is with three layered fats, and slightly caramalised.

This is the dumplings served with the set. I'm not liking this dish at all. It tasted very funny, not the usual dumplings I had. The chef@ only pan fried one side of the skin to make it crispy, leaving the other sides totally soft and tasted the flour smell. So it tasted like it wasn't well cooked. The fillings were bad too. The minced pork were not well marinated, tasted rather bland.

During the whole dining experience, service staffs keep shouting some Japanese slogans. I don't understand Japanese language, and their continuous shouting to attract attention is quite annoying. As my mom put it, it's like eating in a night market where you hear people shouting non stop. I would appreciate a welcome and thank you, but continuous shouting to boost your staff's enthusiasm and to create attention seems too much in this particular restaurant.

Total damage to this meal is RM 65.80. Not cheap and not satisfying.

Deep Fried Bun OK May 31, 2013
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood

I ordered the deep fried bun to go with the crab. I remembered the last time i visited this place with my friends, they were sold out of the buns. I always felt i have not finished the job if i don't come back for the second time and have the crab with the bun. So this time i managed to ordered the bun. Since there were only two of us, she recommended me to order two buns. However, i thought the bun is very small and insisted to order four buns. Well, i was shocked to see the size of the golden deep fried bun, it was almost the size of my palm. I think the bun was not too bad, crispy and aromatic. But too big!. I have to take away the other two buns.

Famous Bowl Combo Cry May 31, 2013   (Related Review)
Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Burgers / Sandwiches | Halal

I have no idea why this is named the famous bowl combo. Honestly speaking, you can get better food from KFC, but definitely not this famous bowl. The famous bowl is a pathetic small bowl, some chicken rice in it, some small cubes of deep fried chicken cutlets, sweet corns, and gravy. I think the whole concept is totally wrong because eating this made me feels yucky.
