I've only came here once and this is the 2nd time dining here.
After that, we walked around Pavilion wondering where to eat. I am really hungry at that time, that was my 1st meal of the day. We decided to dine in Din Tai Fung. On a Saturday, around 5.30, Din Tai Fung is packed with people. We have to wait around 15 mins only we got our table.
Since i am so so so hungry, i ordered a lot today. The last time i came, was a weekday and they serve set lunch. However today only ala cart was available. They gave us a copy of the menu to have a look before we are seated. They also gave u a paper to tick what items you want to order.
By the time we are seated, we can immediately pass the order slip to the waiter to make the ordering process faster.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is bright and clean. All the design and decorations are very shanghainese. The staff there are very cheerful and helpful.
We ordered the appraiser Shanghainese Drunken Chicken
We were surprise this is serve cold. It is a piece of drumstick, sort of flatten and steam before being chilled. I thin they have prepared this dish a while ago, the chicken meat and skin its a bit hard a bit chewy. It has a nice aroma of the rice wine. I don't really favor this dish as it is cold.
Next we ordered the dumpling soup.
They serve a very big portion of dumpling. All of the dumplings are big and juicy. the pork meat inside is very flavorful. the soup is the normal clear soup, but its has a dash of pepper in the soup to make it spicy and yet flavorful.
We ordered another soup that is the braise beef soup. This soup is delicious. They have another that is serve with La mian, but i do not want to have so much carbs, i ordered the soup one. It comes with braise beef and vege. The beef stock is thick and with a strong beef aroma. They must have boil the soup for a very long time. There is a lot of big pieces of beef meat , very satisfying.
Last, We of course ordered the famous Xiao Long Pau. Din Tai Fung have a lot of variety of Xiao Long Pau. We ordered the original Xiao Long Pau. The skin of the Xiao Long pau is thin, when u bite into it, the soup of the xiao long pau oozes out to your mouth. After sucking the soup out, dip it with vinegar and ginger and finish off with one whole mouth. Superb!
