I was dining at Ben's General Food Store with my mum last month and we ordered the Portobello mushrooms Rm 25.90. It comes with a side salad that we have chosen Caesar salad.

The size of the portabello is quite big and it is stuff with quite a lot of stuff in it. For this stuff mushrooms, it is topped with turkey ham, Gruyere cheese and pine nuts with some pesto sauce on the side. The ingredients on top is really a lot, and it blends well with the mushroom. it also covers the smell of the mushroom that i dun really fancy. One thing, i find this dish too oily, i think they drizzle too much olive oil.

The Caesar salad comes with some egg, croutons, turkey bacon, lettuce and top up with some Gruyere crisps. The salad is very fresh and its also light in dressing make it healthy and nice!

Dessert fever @ Mochi Sweets Smile Aug 15, 2012

Categories : Japanese | Desserts

I was walking around Toyko Street Pavillion when my friends n me stumble across the stall Mochi Sweets. To tell you the truth, I am a fan of desserts and I've never really tried nice mochi. Before this, I've never had a decent mochi, only tried those while dining in Jogoya buffet, and it taste terrible. (ever since, i have this misconception that mochi taste terrible) mad

One of my friend tried once in Hong Kong and it's freshly made, she told me it's the nicest dessert she even has. ( She is totally not a sweet tooth)

When i saw this stall in Pavillion, i was shock to see how nice it looked and so tempting! There are all kind of flavours, colours and fillings. I felt i wanted to try all of them. (it looks totally different from the one i used to eat, and looked the same with the picture i saw the mochi from Hong Kong. )

See there is so many people in the small stall. And that are both of my lovely friends, Angie and Chloe.

So many choices to choose from and its really very tempting! Since there is 3 of us, we decided to get a box of 6lol

The packaging is so nice, as the name is Japanese Luxury Sweets, The packaging is looks high class too. It comes in a black box with a simple yet elegant paper bag.

This box of 6 comes with 6 flavors that are Blueberry Cream, Green tea, Chestnut Cream, Cream Chocolate, Mango Yogurt and Red Bean.
There is a semi transparent paper that has the names of the flavor on the mochi.

Blueberry Cream: has a sweet taste but i felt its a bit like eating jam with a combination of cream covered with chewy outer skin. ( Just okay)

Green tea: Was the most authentic one i should say. A very strong green flavor with cream, it blends very well. all together. To my surprise, its so very sweet either.

Chestnut Cream: I actually don't really fancy this flavor. It has a strong chestnut flavor, the cream all add together make the flavor too think and creamy.

Cream Chocolate: I love this the most. I am a chocolate lover, in the outer layer of the mochi skin there is chocolate powder inside there is chocolate cream, its a bit bitter from the powder and sweet from the cream. Fantastic!

Mango Yogurt: It is quite interesting flavor mango and yogurt, sounds like an ice cream flavor, its more to the sour side. Those who like mango flavor desserts would love this.

Red Bean: Red bean is also quite authentic Japanese dessert flavor. Soft sweet red bean filling inside with chewy mochi.

all mochi skins taste the same to me, just in different color. The texture and chewiness is also the same.

When you buy the mochi it is still frozen so you have to leave it to unfrozen around 20-30 mins before enjoying. It is best to eat it on the day you bought it. The 3 of us gobble the whole box at one go ! really yummy=) One good thing, it is not expensive at all. ranges between rm3.50-rm4 each.

I'm working in SS15 Subang, its always a fuss of what to eat during lunch because there is simply too many choices....LOL

But there is one stop i always go with my friend for the best chicken rice, that's Kar Heong in SS14. Its always packed during lunch time and we have to share tables with other people. The shop is located at the shop houses along shell station, there is only 2 -3 max tables for smokers, others will be indoor with aircon.

My friend and me, always the 2 of us will order quarter chicken, siew yuk, Taugeh (beans sprouts) and 2 chinese ice tea.... It seems it will be never enough of the chicken. Sometimes if we do not order siew yuk, we will order half a chicken. lol

This is what we ordered a few days back.

A close up of the quarter chicken. We always ordered the steam chicken, i've ordered the roasted chicken once, the chicken is a bit hard and dry, i still love the steam ones. the chicken is soft , warm and tender. The soy sauce is not too salty, just right to eat with the fragrant chicken rice and it compliments well with the steam chicken. When u ordered chicken rice, they will always give you complimentary clear soup.

Siew yuk is a must when eating chicken rice. Although eating siew yuk is always expensive and only come just a few pieces. But it is so irresistible! I made some research that the Siew Yuk here is indeed special and cooked differently. They use charcoal to roast the pork and it helps to seal in the blasting flavor and make the pork more crispy. We always try to order sau yuk ( skinny meat) a bit of a health conscious. The juicy meat and crispy skin with the combination of pork fat in the middle. words could not describe!

Last, Taugeh or the ipoh beansprouts is the talk of the town. One big plate for only rm2! madThe taugeh here is different here, suppore to be from Ipoh where the water is different and grow very Big, fat and crunchy beansprouts.

The chicken rice is not the normal white rice. Chicken rice is cooked with chicken stock filled with the essence of the chicken. you even can smell the fragrance of the pandan leaves and ginger. Normally i try not to take so much rice, but this is simply wonderful,I ate the whole plate! the rice are grainy, it seems like its all individual rice separated by the oil, its not like the normal rice that will stick together.

I've tried the chicken rice in Ipoh, suppose to be famous one, but not as nice as this loh! this is a must try and must come back!mad

The prices are a bit expensive compared with normal chicken rice, but this one is to die for!

Becks drop by after class to grab some lunch. Since I'm working in SS15, i don't really wana go so far for lunch, so we headed to Sunway Mentari for some yummy Japanese food.

Nihonkai is located in Dataran Mentari, near the place where all the famous steamboat are located. I've been here once for dinner, now is my second time here for lunch.

I reach there around one and to my surprise it is quite packed. A lot of office workers went there to have lunch too.

The set lunch and set dinner is almost the same, set dinner have an extra chawanmushi extra charge of rm4. There is a variety of choices for set dishes and affordable too.

This is the interior of the restaurant, simple arrangements of wine bottles at the shelf. Soft Japanese music is played in the background. All the furniture are definitely Japanese taste.

Becks ordered this, Torikatsunabe and Shashimi. RM21.
It is basically scrambled egg on top of fried chicken chop and rice. This set also comes with raw shashimi.

Close up: Torikatsunabe, i find it a bit too sweet for me and the chicken is not very well season. The egg was nicely done, it has the nice soft texture, but the sauce its so sweet and the sauce made the flour on the chicken cutlet become soft and soggy.

Comes with shashimi. there are both raw salmon and raw butterfish. Both the fish are think and fresh! eat it with wasabe and some lemon juice, it is simply irresistible. All these plus miso soup, pickled veges only comes up to RM21, what a deal right?

I ordered this, Grilled salmon with teriyaki sauce set. RM19. What i love about this is the portion of the salmon is very big, not 1 but 2 pieces of grilled salmon. The salmon is beautifully grilled till perfection, crispy on the skin and they pour the sweet teriyaki sauce. It is sweet and the same time salty too. I could say the portion of the salmon is really very big, this is the only Japanese restaurent that would serve that much portion, and for only RM19!

All sets comes with rice, pickles, miso soup and fruits!

When ever I go to a Japanese restaurant, i would surely try their Macha Red Bean. RM6
This macha ice cream is frozen, i think not much people ordered it and it's not fresh. The red bean is a bit too sweet for me.

All i can say it is a very affordable place to go for Japanese food.

It has been quite some time that I've ask my good friend, Angie to come out. I call her up and we decided to dine at Tian Tian Lai Seafood Restaurant at Bandar Sunway. It is by far, the most afordable and yummy chu char ( can't really think of a word in English)

Since I'm working in Sunway, so i ask Angie to drop by here and try out the food. After all the jam, and she was lost halfway, finally we arrived at the place.

Its actually located at a Selera Sunway food court. You see how people miss use word "restaurent" which practically mean a more high class, air con environment. But it is actually in a food court. Other than the name misunderstanding, the food is still marvelous.

There are 2 parts where you can sit. one is the open air but indoors another one is air con room. We prefer not to sit in the air con room, cause i don't wanna smell like FOOD all over me, after my meal.=)

When i reach there was about 7 plus and it is already quite packed. There are many student dining here as it is just near to Sunway university, Monash and a few more universities. It took a while only the waiter is available to take our order, but we waited patiently as chatted while waiting.

Since there is only 2 of us, we could not order too much food. For me, this is a must order, Marmite chicken. Its actually fried chicken wing, fried till crisp and golden brown, then they cooked the marmite sauce that is sweet and sticky and pour it all over the chicken. they do mixed well and make sure every part of the chicken wing is covered with the sauce and then its served=)

We ordered clay pot tofu, come with a very generous portion with a lot of tofu and other ingredients. The tofu they use is the Japanese egg tofu that comes in a tube. they will slice it nicely and give it a goof fry till golden in color. For the gravy they will beat up egg with cornflour to make it gravy thicken. later they add on all kinds of vegetables, mushrooms, baby corm, cauliflower, carrots. I just love the gravy, flavorful and think, nice to eat with rice!

Last, its the stir vege. i dun really know how chu char people can fry vege till it taste so nice. It looks so simple, with a bit oil, slices of garlic, the vege is fried a while, cooked but the vege is still quite crunchy and fresh! This is the fiber that we need.

After the meal we chit chat like for another hour only we left the place. I've been here a few times and i would recon a few other yummy dishes such as belacan fried chicken, hotplate tofu, steam egg. These are the few that i used to always order.
