Cake Eating @ Serai  Smile Aug 16, 2012   (Related Review)

This blog post is about my cake eating experience in Serai. My brother brought me to dine in Serai few years back and he treated me the Pavlova. That was my 1st experience of eating Pavlova. I felt its really very nice. But lately I've been dining in Serai and Alexis quite frequently and i really made comparison between both cakes from different places.

This is the cake from Serai. As you can see there are fruits on the cakes with a mixture of sweet blueberries, grapes and strawberries. The pavlova is soft and airy, but this piece of cake has sink a bit in the middle. The cream is sweet and the pavlova is sweet too. Makes the whole piece of cake way too sweet. You when you mixed with the sour strawberry its still okay. I would prefer the one in Alexis as it is not that sweet, and in Alexis they dun use grapes, but they use more blueberries and strawberries compared to the one in Serai. Disappointing thing, when the cake it serve, i thought all the dark colored fruits are blueberries. at the end i only have 1 blueberry on my cake, others are grapes cut into halfs, that seems to act like a blueberry. sad

Overall the cake is still nice if you are a sweet SWEET toothmad

Healthy Pimpkin Salad Smile Aug 16, 2012   (Related Review)

Becks ordered the Pumpkin Salad during her last visit at Serai. This salad is quite special, they first roast the pumpkin till it's soft and tender, then they add in chickpeas, cube tomatoes, wild rocket, cube portobello mushrooms and chopped walnuts. The pumpkin is really warm and soft, it had a great smooth feeling and aroma. love the crunchy walnuts and the honey lemon dressing just blends everything so well.
The one thing about this, i could suggest, its a bit too oily when u are finishing the salad. seems like all the ingredients are soaking in the oil. But for taste wise, it is great!

Serai Platter @ Serai Empire Smile Aug 15, 2012

This is my second time trying Serai Platter. Both pictures are taken on a different date. They really do have quality control, the taste and portion is still the same. I would say it does not disappoint me. The Serai platter comes with serai rice, its fragrant rice similar taste with nasi lemak. It is serve with a big piece of fried rempah chicken/ or herb chicken. The chicken is friend till perfection, crispy in the outside, hot and tender in the inside. There is a portion of oxtail asam pedas. Not to spicy, a little sweet and with tender oxtail. The asam pedas sauce is very nice eaten with the serai rice. They also serve with a small portion of honey squid, the squid is first fried and glaceed with honey sauce. The coating of the honey makes is special. Last is a portion of the fresh acar, sour, sweet crunchy and a bit spicy! it really awakes all your senses. smile

I was dining at Ben's General Food Store with my mum last month and we ordered the Portobello mushrooms Rm 25.90. It comes with a side salad that we have chosen Caesar salad.

The size of the portabello is quite big and it is stuff with quite a lot of stuff in it. For this stuff mushrooms, it is topped with turkey ham, Gruyere cheese and pine nuts with some pesto sauce on the side. The ingredients on top is really a lot, and it blends well with the mushroom. it also covers the smell of the mushroom that i dun really fancy. One thing, i find this dish too oily, i think they drizzle too much olive oil.

The Caesar salad comes with some egg, croutons, turkey bacon, lettuce and top up with some Gruyere crisps. The salad is very fresh and its also light in dressing make it healthy and nice!

Dessert fever @ Mochi Sweets Smile Aug 15, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Desserts

I was walking around Toyko Street Pavillion when my friends n me stumble across the stall Mochi Sweets. To tell you the truth, I am a fan of desserts and I've never really tried nice mochi. Before this, I've never had a decent mochi, only tried those while dining in Jogoya buffet, and it taste terrible. (ever since, i have this misconception that mochi taste terrible) mad

One of my friend tried once in Hong Kong and it's freshly made, she told me it's the nicest dessert she even has. ( She is totally not a sweet tooth)

When i saw this stall in Pavillion, i was shock to see how nice it looked and so tempting! There are all kind of flavours, colours and fillings. I felt i wanted to try all of them. (it looks totally different from the one i used to eat, and looked the same with the picture i saw the mochi from Hong Kong. )

See there is so many people in the small stall. And that are both of my lovely friends, Angie and Chloe.

So many choices to choose from and its really very tempting! Since there is 3 of us, we decided to get a box of 6lol

The packaging is so nice, as the name is Japanese Luxury Sweets, The packaging is looks high class too. It comes in a black box with a simple yet elegant paper bag.

This box of 6 comes with 6 flavors that are Blueberry Cream, Green tea, Chestnut Cream, Cream Chocolate, Mango Yogurt and Red Bean.
There is a semi transparent paper that has the names of the flavor on the mochi.

Blueberry Cream: has a sweet taste but i felt its a bit like eating jam with a combination of cream covered with chewy outer skin. ( Just okay)

Green tea: Was the most authentic one i should say. A very strong green flavor with cream, it blends very well. all together. To my surprise, its so very sweet either.

Chestnut Cream: I actually don't really fancy this flavor. It has a strong chestnut flavor, the cream all add together make the flavor too think and creamy.

Cream Chocolate: I love this the most. I am a chocolate lover, in the outer layer of the mochi skin there is chocolate powder inside there is chocolate cream, its a bit bitter from the powder and sweet from the cream. Fantastic!

Mango Yogurt: It is quite interesting flavor mango and yogurt, sounds like an ice cream flavor, its more to the sour side. Those who like mango flavor desserts would love this.

Red Bean: Red bean is also quite authentic Japanese dessert flavor. Soft sweet red bean filling inside with chewy mochi.

all mochi skins taste the same to me, just in different color. The texture and chewiness is also the same.

When you buy the mochi it is still frozen so you have to leave it to unfrozen around 20-30 mins before enjoying. It is best to eat it on the day you bought it. The 3 of us gobble the whole box at one go ! really yummy=) One good thing, it is not expensive at all. ranges between rm3.50-rm4 each.
