Satay celup Smile Sep 11, 2012

Categories : Malaysian variety | Restaurant | BBQ

Initially we wanted to try the satay celup at Capitol but the queue was crazy so we settled for Restoran Ban Lee Siang which is super packed! They occupy two shops and both are full. Expect to sit in a warm & very tight place and squeeze with other customers to grab your food from the fridge. I was quite surprised that the staff managed to keep up with the amount of customers. Probably because the customers grab their own food?

Each stick is 60 cents (mushrooms, baby corn, fishballs, pork, sausages etc). Pretty yummy but my personal favourite was strangely the BREAD! Omg so delicious!!! Soft bread soaked in hot peanut sauce is just yums... The oyster mushrooms and baby corns are great too. The food were fresh as they're stored in the fridge and stock is constantly replenished. Sauce is very thick, full of taste and slightly spicy.

Note : They do not change their sauce between each customer so you're eating leftover food and perhaps saliva from previous customers since god knows how long ago. Suggest you let the sauce boil before proceeding shocked

Chicken rice ball Smile Sep 11, 2012
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant

One of the famous delicacies in Malacca is 'chicken rice ball'. We decided to try it out during lunch at Restoran Famosa Chicken Rice Ball. We also had roasted chicken and otak-otak. The chicken was yummy! Smooth, tender flesh complimented with a crispy skin. Otak-otak is quite spicy and salty but goes well with the somewhat bland rice.

Honestly, the chicken rice ball isn't that good because it's compact and not fragrant =/ It's a ball of mushy rice without much flavour. Imagine soft overcooked rice that has been mashed and then rolled into a tight ball.

Like many other shops, the building has a very old and traditional look to it. It is however, clean and well maintained. Service here is good as well. They have enough staff to cater to the needs of the customers.

Come at night OK Sep 11, 2012

Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Pizza/Pasta | Noodles | Nasi Lemak

Geographer Cafe is a hotspot at night but the crowd in the day time is not bad either. Service isn't great though. The waiter kept giving us the 'don't waste my time' face as we were ordering and asking for recommendations. I overheard the waiter & 2 female foreigners behind me talking. She was asking about the size of a dish and he just walked off as she was still talking halfway to grab the dish to show her. Then when we asked for spoons, the guy just stood there and shoved it into our faces without uttering a single word.

Drinks were ridiculously expensive so we settled for RM4+ coconut which is even cheaper than a 'shuen mui' drink at RM8+!

Then came the food! I'm usually disgusted by tempeh but this was less pungent and had a very bean-y fragrance. Went well with the slightly burnt taste of the outer layer. I actually could eat this although I admit it is an acquired taste.

Jonker's Fried Rice. I did not try this but apparently the satay sauce is good.

This Chicken Dragoncello sure looked good! And it tasted delicious as well ^_^ Chicken's juicy and tender while the fries are SO crispy! The salad added some lovely colours to the dish. Worth a try!

Geographer Tom Yam Coconut Soup which is filled with capsicums. Also contains cherry tomatoes and 'tau fo pok'. Soup was a bit powdery and it tasted average. Not too spicy.

I probably wouldn't return to this restaurant for meals. Probably better at night for drinks.

Durian cendol OK Sep 12, 2012
Categories : Malaysian variety | Sweets/Snack | Bakery / Cake / Kuih

Dropped by a random cendol stall to try out durian cendol. It's a shop that sells all sorts of biscuits with a cendol stall in front and a big red sign. There were only 3 small tables outside and it wasn't exactly clean. You have to take your own bowls as well.

Durian cendol, RM 5. All I could taste was durian (she added 1 scoop of yellow liquid) and it wasn't impressive. Very little ingredients and small portion. The ice is very fluffy so once you mix it, you will discover that there isn't much.

Original cendol, RM 4. Didn't taste good nor fragrant. I've tasted many better ones.
