Fried oyster Smile Aug 06, 2012

Got ourselves one of the must-try dishes in Penang, fried oyster or oh chien. Basically, it is oyster fried with egg. This is the smallest size and cost us RM 6. If I'm not mistaken, it's from stall number 31, beside the satay stall. Unfortunately, it was extremely salty! Apart from that though, it was tasty. The oysters are fresh enough and fleshy. About 40% of the plate are oysters.

Laksa OK Aug 06, 2012

Caught an asam laksa fever in Penang! Out of all the bowls I tried during that trip, this was the plainest bowl. The taste was just average.. It was not too spicy. Running my spoon through the soup, I can see that it's clearer and more watery than the other laksas I have tried which are more murky and full of fish, onions and other stuff. However, at RM 3.50 a bowl, it still beats the ones in KL.

Laksa by the roadside OK Aug 06, 2012

On the way to Penang Hill / Bukit Bendera, you will pass by many stalls along the side of the road selling food. There are some near Asia Cafe where they set up chairs and tables under the trees. Not exactly the cleanest location. The bowl of laksa tastes like any ordinary asam laksa in Penang. The amount of ingredients didn't impress me and it wasn't among the best I've tasted.

On the way to Penang Hill, we passed by the motherload of food! I guess they all mushroomed there due to the popularity of Bukit Bendera and the number of tourists. That's good though as we were starving by the time we got down! This is a bowl of very tasty soup (I think MSG?) with chicken shreds that aren't too dry or tough. Inside we found several chewy fishballs. Not sure if it's good or we were just too hungry.

Cendol Smile Aug 03, 2012

Another dish you have to try in Penang is cendol/chendul! This little stall is located in a side lane that is slightly hidden if you are not observant. How do you know you found the right one? It will be crowded with people standing while slurping their cendol! A strange sight indeed. The bowl of cold cendol is very fragrant with gula Melaka and coconut milk. Lots of cendol and beans are floating in the sweet and salty soup.
