Vanilla mille crepe Smile Aug 29, 2012

Although there are many many branches of Ochado in Malaysia, the quality of their mille crepe is not the same. I had previously tried this at another outlet in a mall and it was beyond par. This one here from Ochado SS2 is much better. Many thin layers stacked closely on top of each other into a soft, compact goodness. It has a sweet vanilla taste and a jelly layer on top. The cake was really fragrant and tasted great. Costs RM 9.90 but it was at 20% off.

Quite bland OK Aug 28, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles

Apparently this place is always full during lunch hour so we decided to try it out (obviously not during peak hour).

Braised tofu! Yum yum.. Pretty tasty with lots of sauce. The tofu is soft and smooth. It's a combination of salty and slightly sour.

Then we both ordered this Teo Chew Olive Fried Rice as she recommended it. The prawns are really big and juicy but I found the rice to be quite bland despite the amount of ingredients. Olives are supposed to add a lot of taste but I picked them out to eat individually and they weren't fragrant. Quite a disappointment since it was recommended.

Hot Teh 'C' at RM 2. Tasteless. Just tasteless. Barely any tea taste and it wasn't sweet. Most of the drinks here are affordable though.

Despite the bland food, I might actually come back to try the other choices.

Affordable and tasty sets Smile Aug 28, 2012

After trying Formosa, I'm hooked to Taiwan food! Glad there's a Fun Taipei Teacafe in SS2 (block perpendicular to McDs, beside Pelita). Their rice sets seemed pretty worth the portion so we both ordered one each. They're between RM10-20.

Mine is minced meat rice with braised egg, braised tofu, soup and vegetables. You may upgrade your plain rice to minced meat rice for an additional RM 1.50 bowl The braised egg and tofu was very flavourful and I loved them. The minced meat rice was even better as the sauce they used to cook the meat was extremely delicious and the portion was good. Vegetables were well cooked until soft and I enjoyed them. Soup was just average. Definitely recommend this.

This is another set with some kinda cold herbal chicken with ginger. Chicken was soft, juicy and had a strong taste. The fried tofu(?) on the upper right is spicy due to the sauce.

We also got a drink but I would highly recommend you to stay away from their drinks as they taste like perfume (based on this and a previous visit). Perhaps the fruit juices would be better.

Bad service OK Aug 28, 2012

Menus were given to us the moment we sat down but it took quite some effort trying to call the waiter to take my order. It was almost like nobody dared to look at the customers so they didn't have to work! The one who saw us waving called another waiter (who's busy with another table) to take our order even though he was free.

A dish was almost wrongly served to us but in the end, the salad arrived first. I realized that they didn't prepare any eating utensils for us..

Then the waiter approaches us, mumbles something and sets the pan on fire right before our eyes.

The flame was concentrated on the prawns (yummiest part of dinner!). Dory fish a lil tasteless (btw, where's our lemon?), carrots & broccoli way undercooked and too hard. The veges look very dry too like they've been left in the open for some time.

The salmon dish arrived last. At this point, I was still left wondering if I'm supposed to eat with my hands... Usually the utensils are prepared before the dishes actually arrive at the table.

We asked for more butter sauce for the salmon and actually had to ask thrice. A couple of waiters came to us and I'm not even sure if they speak English! Veges were horrid (they're from the same batch) but rice was really fragrant. Salmon was alright..

Bleh.. Don't think I'll be returning to the Manhattan Fish Market there but the service is much better in other branches.

The location of Sakae Sushi is really strange. It seems you have to exit the actual building (at Plan B) in order to reach it. There are plenty of seats and service is good.

The price of the sushi on the train is considered more reasonable compared to other shops. The train goes all around the shop snaking around the seats (quite amusing). Orders are done through an iPad which is great since the table for 2 is too small to fit 2 menus.

Had a bowl of Chuka Hotate to start things off. IMO, they're a little too hard but tastes great with a hint of spiciness and sesame.

Then we grabbed some sushi cos the food was taking a while and we were hungry. Seaweed was fresh and green. Yum..

Ordered some kinda soft shell crab in spicy soup set that comes with rice, chuka hotate, 3 slices of salmon sashimi, chawanmushi and miso soup. On my receipt it's written as Muzu and costs RM 30.90. The sashimi was unfortunately not fresh and pretty fishy even after we got a replacement. The chawanmushi here is super nice though! It's so soft, smooth and so egg-y.

Liked the spicy soup with tofu but according to him, the soft shell crab was also fishy..

The udon in their Kinoko Udon is a bit too soft. The soup is nicer than at Sushi Tei though! Has exactly two bunches of that mushroom, two bunches of straw mushroom, one of that big fat one at the bottom (omg this is nice but pretty tasteless) and 3 slices of fishcake.

Overall, food's alright but I probably wouldn't order seafood here. You should try the chawanmushi! I wouldn't mind going back for some udon lol
