After a disappointing day of not having the chance to taste the famous Sister's Char Koay Teow, my friend was so excited to find it here in Gurney Drive. Hence, the plate of (more expensive than usual) Char Koay Teow with duck egg. Like some other dishes we ordered here, it was way too salty for us!! Maybe it's the duck egg? There wasn't a smoky aroma, just saltiness. The extra we paid for the duck egg was not worth it.

Char Koay Kak OK Aug 06, 2012   (Related Review)

This plate of char koay kak is definitely not the best I have had in Penang AND in KL. The pieces are quite big and they aren't soft enough. More like chewy and bouncy instead of a softer melty texture. The portion is reasonable though and they do include lots of big, juicy beansprouts. The dish, especially the egg pieces, were very salty. Apart from the salt, I don't really taste much from this dish.

Laksa OK Aug 06, 2012

Caught an asam laksa fever in Penang! Out of all the bowls I tried during that trip, this was the plainest bowl. The taste was just average.. It was not too spicy. Running my spoon through the soup, I can see that it's clearer and more watery than the other laksas I have tried which are more murky and full of fish, onions and other stuff. However, at RM 3.50 a bowl, it still beats the ones in KL.

Laksa by the roadside OK Aug 06, 2012

On the way to Penang Hill / Bukit Bendera, you will pass by many stalls along the side of the road selling food. There are some near Asia Cafe where they set up chairs and tables under the trees. Not exactly the cleanest location. The bowl of laksa tastes like any ordinary asam laksa in Penang. The amount of ingredients didn't impress me and it wasn't among the best I've tasted.

Lor Mee OK Aug 03, 2012   (Related Review)

This was my first time hearing about Lor Mee. Apparently, it is more common in Penang and I don't really see it in KL. It is yellow mee in a thick starchy soup, sometimes with egg, chicken, pork or inner organs, depending on the vendor. This one did not have a hard boiled egg but it had chicken shreds and chunks. The thick soup is different from normal watery ones. Although I did not like it much, my friend said it tasted ok.
