I had this Pandan sponge cake with kaya, served with a scoop of ice-cream and mangos as my dessert after my lunch meal.

I love sponge cake and having it plain will complete me. smile

Since JP Teres has come out with something different and it was highly recommended, I decided to have one.

Although, I would prefer to enjoy one in its original way without any fancy things but with high recommendation, I decided to enjoy one with an open mind.

Firstly, the sponge cake was fluffy and light, mild taste of the pandan flavour. If only the Pandan sponge cake goes without the kaya as topping would cut down a lot of the high in sweetness. I felt like do not want to finish after the first bite. Not the taste of the cake was unacceptable but it is me that I could reject any food if the sweetness is too high.

How do you expect me to dip the cake with the ice-cream and the mango while both are equally as sweet. Too much of sweetness killed the taste of the cake itself. I hardly could taste the favourite Pandan sponge cake having all those fancy stuff on it. The sad part, it was a business meeting and I have a guest having lunch with me, I have to be polite to finish the whole dessert.

Please, I would rather have the sponge cake in plain no kaya adding to it or any kind of sweet combination to the sponge cake. Bad attempt! If it is for the reason of RM12 to make it value for money, do consider something that is sour so it would cut down the sweetness level.

A simple bowl of Garlic fried rice, cost RM14.00 per bowl for 2. The portion was just nice for 2. The garlic fried rice served with spring onions and bitten eggs. I did not enjoy the garlic rice for its taste that was so flat and did not live up to our expectation. Certainly it was lacking of garlics. There was no irresistible aroma and very mild of garlicky taste. Will not recommend this dish for sure.sad

The next dish was Yaki Gyuniku (Grilled beef and leek on skewer with teriyaki sauce), cost RM30.00 for 3 skewers before tax.

Well, grilled stuff is always smell good, in this particular one, I did not smell any. It looked as if the beef went into a boiling water made to half done then put in a skewer to grill for a moment with the absence of the teriyaki sauce. It was more like the teriyaki sauce served as dipping. The portion of each cube of the beef was quite a thick piece however, it was lacking of the grilled beef taste. Without having the teriyaki dipping, the beef was tasteless. The texture was soft instead. Again, the menu stated, grilled beef with leek, found

The name of our appetizer is California Salad, cost RM28 before tax. As stated in the menu, the salad served with garden greens with salmon, tuna, avacado, crab stick and flying fish roe in wasabi dressing.

The portion was big enough for 2 but we could not finish it somehow, reason being, there were missing of Salmon and Tuna. Furthermore, they served mayonnaise dressing instead of Wasabi dressing. I was quite sure of the dressing because it was taste more like mayonnaise while wasabi will have a bit of spicy taste. No double they served a lot of greens, sliced avocado and full of deep fried crab stick but those are of not valuable than the Salmon and Tuna meat. I was very disappointed with this dish. Overall, I would say, the salad was just very ordinary salad.

Hakka Cuisine Cry Jul 30, 2012   (Related Review)

We have been visiting this Ying Ker Lou Hakka Cuisine (迎客楼客家料理) many times. Recently we returned again and found that they have no longer claimed MSG free that they used to put on one on every floor staff's uniform. Strange! sad

Any way, that would not stop us from having our lunch there. We ordered sugar cane with water chestnut, cost RM6.00 before tax. In terms of the price of this particular simple to prepare and low cost drinks, this is considered steep.

In terms of the taste, it was a bit diluted that caused it tasteless and the quality has dropped a little as I only found a few tiny water chestnut in the drinks.
