Belgian Hotdog

Belgian Hotdog

This cafe cum pub has an excellent range of pork dishes as well as beer selections and there is a healthy crowd size there everytime I visited. One of the dishes that I really like here is their Belgian Hotdog. The foot long hot-dog covered with melted cheese, shredded lettuce, pickles top up with mustard, crispy bacon and served with a light salad and fries. The hot dog has a sharp smoky taste which is balanced by the tangy mustard cream. I love the melted cheese that feels so buttery and I get the feeling of sinking my teeth into fatty meat. Worth trying.

Signature Dessert Cry Aug 16, 2012

Recently there has been a mushrooming of bubble tea dessert shops in Malaysia so much so that you can get it everywhere you go. Since I have tire of Chatime, I tried Blackball's range to see if they can match their other competitors in taste.

I ordered their Blackball Signature which is grass jelly, yamball, taro, pearl and red beans mixture. I find that the taste is a bit below my expectation. The yam and taro wasn't as chewy as Snowflake (just my opinion of course) and it tastes less sweet. I guess my sweetness tolerance is high but I prefer my desserts that way. The pearl and grass jelly were a bit hard and there is a strong powdery taste which I didn't like. The red beans were too soft and although these provided some taste, overall the dish is just average.

Their Milk Tea with grass jelly is just normal. The tea taste was not strong and there was that powdery taste again from the grass jelly. The sugar level can be adjusted to personal preference so I will not rate on that. The drink is a bit too diluted in my opinion.

Chawanmushi Smile Aug 16, 2012

I've always had a liking for steamed egg especially the japanese type which they called chawanmushi. I tried the version at Yuzu and is not disappointed. It had the smoothest texture with the steaming done with just the right timing to give it the nicest sheen. The ingredients were mushroom, fishcake and unagi. Really tasted super delicious as the mushroom and unagi had such strong flavours. The milky texture is flavoured with soy sauce and has a sweet salty taste which was just great with the dish served hot. Highly recommended.

For mains, I tried the Nasi Goreng with Chicken Satay. The presentation was really faultless. The fried rice came in a platter with one prawn, a fried egg, grilled chicken satay (2 sticks) with peanut sauce, and a pickled fruit they told me was longan. The rice were fried without being too oily and tasted full of spices. The satay were grilled nicely with the meat still juicy and moist. It tasted of the smoky grilling flavour but did not overpower the meat which has a mildly sweet taste. However the prawn was not really that fresh and kills the taste which was bland as well. Overall it is still adequate if I discount the prawn. Good enough for ambience this nice.

Tortilla Wrap Smile Aug 16, 2012

When the food is good, I do not mind going the distance to try it. This is true for Memphis Bistro which is located in an industrial area in Ara Damansara. It takes a bit of effort to locate the restaurant which is not visible from the main road but the effort is worth it.

For starters, we tried the Tortilla Wrap which is pastry filled with diced chicken, bell pepper and cheese. I think there is guacamole in it too with a dash of chili which added a mildly hot sensation that was appealing. The pastry is not too thick and tasted crisp and smooth. Top marks goes to the ingredients which blended so well together without any sharp taste. The cheese gave a nice savoury tone which goes well with the well peppered chicken. When we finished, I couldn't wait to try their main dishes. Prices are a little above average but you get what you pay for.
