Musang King  Smile Aug 14, 2012

Donald's Durian is one of the many durian stalls in SS2 which has a RM10 all you can eat durian buffet. But this time around, I wasn't there for the buffet. We wanted to try the Musang King variety which is RM20-RM22 per kg. This grade of durian doesn't come cheap and now I know why. The flesh is so creamy and sweet but there's more, bitter notes which was not overpowering that really made it less indulging somehow but at the same time made me crave for more. The sweetness was understated too so it was really a delight to taste. The best thing is it has smaller seeds to the flesh seems to be endless. Definitely not to be missed if you haven't tried one yet. Worth paying extra for.

Grilled Chicken Sandwich OK Aug 14, 2012

Grilled Chicken Sandwich

Grilled Chicken Sandwich

I passed by this restaurant one day while hunting for a place to get my lunch and decided to try it as it looked cosy. The setting was simple but there was a homey feel about the place. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich since I wanted something light. It was pretty decent, the chicken was sufficiently tender and the portion was average. The wheat sandwich bread was fresh and so were the lettuce and tomatoes. Perhaps the saving grace is the generous amount of mayonnaise that was used. The sauce is creamy and tasted tangy so it really binds the sandwich together for the flavour needed. Passable but do not think I will come back.

Cold Cha Soba Smile Aug 14, 2012

Cold cha soba

Cold cha soba

Umai-Ya has earned a reputation for good Japanese food and fresh ingredients. This time around, I decided to order their green tea cold soba which was really a good choice. It came on a plate with 3 rolls of green tea soba with shaved ice beneath them for keeping it chilled and served with sliced seaweed, finely sliced spring onion, wasabi and the raw quail's egg. The soba was springy and light, the dipping sauce tasted good. First I added the raw quail's egg to the dipping sauce, then dipped my noodles in the sauce. The fusion of the wasabi and sauce with the cold soba is a really great combination with the cooling effect and the extra heat from the wasabi. And the egg wraps around the noodles giving it extra silky texture and flavour. Add seaweed and the crispy texture gave it another dimension. Highly recommended.

Steamed Tilapia Smile Aug 13, 2012

Steamed Fish

Steamed Fish

I have heard about this restaurant from a lot of friends and finally I tried it at their flagship stall in Rawang. This is a simple and limited seating shop along Jalan Rawang which is quite inconspicous enough. There was nothing much in terms of decor that will indicate that this is a popular restaurant except for the huge crowds especially on weekends and holidays. The restaurant serves only one type of fish which is the Tilapia Fish and it is done in only one version; steamed with ginger and garlic. However, they have other dishes that you may order to go with rice. But since the owner recommends that everyone should have one fish to themselves and every table seemed to be doing just that, I decided to follow suit.

There really wasn't much I could critique about the steamed fish here. It is simply tasty, not just because the fish was fresh but also due to the mixture of soy sauce with ginger and garlic which really brings out the natural sweetness of the flesh. Normally river fishes has a mud taste to their flesh which is hard to get rid of but they somehow have a way to do away with that really well. The flesh is still soft and succulent, steamed just right, not over or under. Each fish is between RM15-RM20 and is definitely worth trying.

Pecan Praline Crunch Smile Aug 13, 2012

This brand of ice-cream originating from New Zealand stresses natural products free from preservatives. Recently they launched a new flavour, Pecan Praline Crunch to their already wide selection of flavours. This flavour is a rich blend of ice cream filled with bits pecan nuts and caramel fudge which is really creamy and taste like heaven. The natural woody aroma of the pecans added extra texture to the smooth aftertaste from the caramel fudge. A good tasty flavour.
