Best Cendol in Penang Smile Aug 12, 2012

Whenever I'm in Penang, I will be sure to go for the cendul on Penang Road because it is for me one of the best cendul in town. What I love about it especially is the kidney beans, it used to be quite special because it wasn't used in cenduls in Klang Valley but of course that has changed now. I am not a real fan of cendul but for some reason, the ones served here is more than just pandan strips of rice flour. They have a smooth consistency and not hardened like some and the mixture of shaved ice, kidney beans and gula melaka is so right together. The kidney beans is softened to just before mash texture still retaining its shape and so good when the shaved ice melts and mixes with the gula melaka giving the liquid mixture a brownish color and a sweetness that was not overpowering. And there wasn't any strong taste of coconut milk which I do not favour. This is definitely a dessert stall that I will revisit again and again.

Hakka Mee  Smile Aug 12, 2012

A friend brought me to this coffee shop located in an industrial area. Seems like the shop is quite well known for hakka mee and yong tau foo. Their menu is quite extensive with chicken feet, pork leg or herbal chicken among others. I ordered the dry Hakka Mee with some selections of fried yong tau foo to go with it since these are the signature items. The Hakka Mee really do live up to its reputation, it was so chewy and bouncy, this I was told is due to it being hand made. The noodles were topped with minced pork which tasted sufficiently flavoured that it coats the mee nicely once mixed. The fried wantan that I chose was crispy and the filling of fish meat is tasty and fresh. Same goes for the fried beancurd which is not oily and tasted of home cooked good food. The presentation at this shop is simple but manages to capture your interest from the moment you taste their selections which are really worth a try.
