The restaurant is really a surprising find for me. The decor is really quaint with lots of quirky stuff hanging on the walls and creates a really homely feel.

In actual fact it is a Korean restaurant and one of the dishes we tried is the Bibimbap which is a signature korean mixed rice. Ingredients are sliced and arranged in a metal bowl and traditionally topped with a raw egg. But at B station, they had the egg fried to cater to those that are health conscious. The ingredients are carrots, cucumber, preserved vegetables and seaweed. A special korean chili paste is served in a separate dish and is to be added to the rice for mixing all the ingredients together before eating.

I like the chili paste which has a sweet spicy taste and it really binds the rice together with the ingredients. The vegetables provided lots of color and were quite fresh. I find the rice a little disappointing because it was a bit soggy from overcooking. Other than the taste of the chili, the seaweed and preserved vegetables gave the rice a bit of salty flavour that was not really that appealing. There were side dishes served which are replenished unlimited times. These actually tasted even better than the main dish. There were braised potatoes, pickled cucumber, kimchi and a noodle salad.

Overall I was won over by the decor and ambience more than the food and still plan to return to try their other dishes.

Peanut Mochi @ Kampachi OK Aug 15, 2012

For desserts, the Peanut Mochi is a good option. I like the gooey texture of the rice flour which is soft but doesn't stick when chewed. The mochi is rolled in peanuts and there were additional crushed peanuts for added flavour. It was not very sweet which is just what I like. The portion is also good with enough for 2. A simple yet tasty dessert and although similar to the muachi we find at pasar malam, there is a more refined texture to the mochi. Good to try.

Steamed Fish with Lime

Steamed Fish with Lime

You can sometimes find the best places to dine at very odd places and this restaurant is one of them. It is located in a busy area yet it somehow manages to remain cut away from the buzz. But of course the restaurant is a regular for the neighbourhood residents and I went there on one such recommendation.

For our fish order, I tried their Steamed Fish with Lime which is not something I see on menus as frequently as ginger or bean paste steamed fish. It was quite a change and did give the flesh a refreshing twist with the citrus addition and dispelled any remaining fishy taste from the fish which was quite fresh anyway. The flesh is sufficiently soft from steaming timing that has obviously been perfected. Generous sprinkles of lime were all over the flesh although the sour tinge of lime taste could turn off some who is not used to it. Worth trying.

Grilled Chicken Sandwich OK Aug 14, 2012

Grilled Chicken Sandwich

Grilled Chicken Sandwich

I passed by this restaurant one day while hunting for a place to get my lunch and decided to try it as it looked cosy. The setting was simple but there was a homey feel about the place. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich since I wanted something light. It was pretty decent, the chicken was sufficiently tender and the portion was average. The wheat sandwich bread was fresh and so were the lettuce and tomatoes. Perhaps the saving grace is the generous amount of mayonnaise that was used. The sauce is creamy and tasted tangy so it really binds the sandwich together for the flavour needed. Passable but do not think I will come back.

Coffee Cake

Coffee Cake

Another cake I tried is the Coffee Cake. Did not have much expectations after some other things I tried here was not so encouraging. However, this cake is quite acceptable. I could taste the coffee aroma and flavour in the cake. It was layered with a bit of cream and the topping was a layer of glazed sugar topped with a coffee bean. The cake texture is quite light and there wasn't much density in it much like a sponge cake. Overall, just normal.
