Tom Yum Kung

Tom Yum Kung

I don't speak or read Thai language, but judging from the arrangement of the menu, "Tom Yum Gai" means Chicken Tom Yum, the "Tom Yum Kung" that stated Prawn Tom Yum in the description should be prawn tom yum. We only found prawns in the tom yum anyway.

The Tom Yum soup is quite thick, in a good way. I always can't resist the combination of tom yum soup with prawn, as well as tom yum soup with rice.

It is a good thing that it doesn't have a lot of leaves (which I think it is basil leaves) that disturbing you from finishing the delicious tom yum soup.

Well next time I'll try the seafood tom yum.

Mango Sticky Rice Smile Jul 01, 2012

Mango Sticky Rice

Mango Sticky Rice

Generally taste good, but I'm not convinced that it is not served with extra coconut dip.

I can tell the mango is freshly cut. In fact, as long as the mango taste sweet, this dishes could hardly go wrong.

One part that suprised me is the square shaped stick rice, and also freaked me out. To make square sticky rice, you'll have to wrap it in food wrapper and then do it.... often with bare hands.

Taste You Won't Forget Smile Jul 01, 2012

Heavy is the first impression it gave me --just look at the amount of black soy sauce and the toppings.

But when you put it in your mouth, you'll found the bean sprout and spring onion actually able to balance out the heavy taste from the sauce.

From looking at their menu, I found this Vietnamese restaurant serve foods that are similar to Chinese food, the pork in soy sauce and all that. But once you tried, they are actually different.

The Vietnamese version of all these pork-based Chinese food are way more balanced compare to the original Chinese version. We Chinese eat pork with pork but Vietnamese always eat pork with vegetable.

It's weird the feeling, like you ate a very heavy meal, but it does not really felt that heavy after eating.

Fried Calamari Rings Smile Jul 01, 2012

Fried Calamari Ring

Fried Calamari Ring

From wikipedia:
"Fried squid (fried calamari, calamari) is a dish in Mediterranean cuisine. It consists of batter-coated, deep fried squid, fried for less than two minutes to prevent toughness. It is served plain, with salt and lemon on the side."

I still don't undrestand why we need to call it the calamari ring but not just fried squid.

It was a finger snack while I was waiting for someone at the restaurant. And it was very, very good, for a bowl of calamari ring.

First, it is freshly fried, hot and slightly sizzling when served.

Second, thai chilli sauce instead of normal tomato or chilli sauce.

Both shows the sincerity of the restaurant to serve good food, and indeed their foods are good.

I'll give a 5/5 for this calamari rings.

Prawn Macaroni with Cheese Smile Jul 01, 2012

Prawn Macaroni with Cheese

Prawn Macaroni with Cheese

Say cheese!

Although not mentioned in the name of this dishes, my favourite ingredient here was actually the wild mushroom.

The wild mushroom did a perfect job at combining the rest of the ingredients, the cheese, the sauce, the macaroni.

However, the supposedly main character of this dishes, the prawn, is suspiciously elastical. Even though tasted good, it just felt creepy to eat prawn that elastical.

As I already mentioned earlier, thanks to the wild mushroom, the cheese sauce and macaroni was matched perfectly.

If you are able to ignore the elastical prawn part, this is a good dishes from Secret Recipe.
