Ayam Penyet! OK Jan 06, 2012
Categories : Indonesian | Restaurant

Despite reading/hearing about this ayam penyet from various sources, I've never had the chance to try them out until one weekend.

What is ayam penyet

Ayam penyet is a traditional Indonesian cuisine which originates from Surabaya. It is a popular chicken dish where the fresh chicken is specially marinated with various spices and herbs . The meat is then smashed with a wooden headed hammer and deep fried until golden light brown. One of the unique feature in preparing this funny name dish is the art of frying where it is crispy from outside and juicy inside. The other dishes served here are traditional Indonesian food which are also popular in Singapore and Indonesia. Our signature dish, Ayam penyet-AP is served as a set. You get a quarter crispy chicken, a piece each of fried beancurd and tempe, some boiled kangkong, fresh cabbage, blazing hot sambal belachan and bits of crunchy golden brown fried fritter topping on the chicken. Like I said, I was in love with sour plum drinks before this (I think the craze has toned down a bit recently), so that pretty much explains the existence of sour plum pearl drink (background) in the picture below. The green one is Honeydew flavour; which I personally wouldn't order it in any situations because I've always thought it tastes like medicine :|

Ayam rendang; 4.5/5
The meat was soft and tender!
Gravy was just perfect to my liking as well.

Ayam penyet; 4/5
Despite the small portion, it was crispy and flavourful, but the meat was slightly dried.

Spending per head: Approximately RM20(午餐)

Banana Walnut Waffle Smile Jul 22, 2012

If you asked me, where is the best place to have waffles in One Utama? My answer will be Waffle World!

Bf and I were searching for something light to eat before our movie the other day and we somehow settled down in this restaurant. At first I thought Waffle World will only be serving waffles, but I was wrong. They do have other varieties like meatballs, rice, and sandwiches.

This is the Banana Walnut Waffle. I was attracted by its appearance immediately when it was served to us. Bananas, walnuts, vanilla ice cream, cherry and chocolate syrup on top of the waffle! I was a happy kid then tongue I was surprised by the generous amount of walnuts and ice cream servings because when I ordered similar waffle at other places, I usually get one scoop of ice cream only. But this one had like 3-4 scoops of ice cream and lots of walnuts!

Waffle was definitely yummy; crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. In fact, even when it had ice cream on top of it, it didn't become soggy even after 5 - 8 minutes. As for the price, I would say RM8.20 is considered reasonable for the quality and ingredients used smile

Pineapple Fried Rice with Chicken Smile Jul 22, 2012

Although I've passed by this restaurant numerous times whenever I went to Sunway Giza mall, I never dined in here despite its eye-catching signboard which shouts "Mr. Tom Yam" in striking red colour.

I finally decided to give this place a chance on a Saturday even though I can't take spicy food and I might have difficulties in choosing my meals. They have a huge blackboard on the wall in which their menu is shown. This restaurant has a open kitchen concept whereby the customers can see the chefs preparing the orders publicly.

I ordered the signature pineapple fried rice with chicken. Alternatively, one can choose prawns at a higher price. My order was served in a pineapple itself, which emphasized that I was indeed eating pineapple fried rice. Needless to say, my order wasn't spicy but sweet. The sweetness was just alright and the fried rice was rich in ingredients such as cashew nuts, green peas, pineapple cubes, carrots and corns, tofu and fried egg.

I had to admit that I really liked what I ordered as it had satisfied me in terms of taste and texture. Will I come back again? Definitely! lol

Caramel Frappe Smile Jul 22, 2012

Categories : Western variety | Burgers / Sandwiches

My friend who loves coffee once told me that he couldn't understand why people would prefer Starbucks when there are many other shops which provide better coffee. To him, the coffee from Austin Chase is much more better than Starbucks in terms of quality.

Sunway Giza outlet has 2 floors and WIFI is provided. I spent a few hours here just to relax myself with the bf and played games that were provided by outlet.

I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase a cup of regular frappe at a cheaper price by using the discount voucher bought online. Among all flavours, I chose caramel.

Blended ice with caffeinated nectar and caramel syrup is definitely worth ordering! I thought the first sip tasted bitter but the more sips I took, I found them to be sweeter and soon I was falling in love with the drink lol Not to mention that it had a strong aroma which attracted me in the first place.

Char siew + Siu Yuk + Duck Smile Jul 20, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant

Apparently this restaurant is famous for their duck. Dropped by to dine in here after attending a friend's convocation nearby.

Indeed, the restaurant was full of people waiting to be served as well as for take away. Good food requires patience to wait lol

We managed to secure seats after awhile and we went ahead and ordered our food. Half Roast Duck, RM15 worth of Siew Yuk and Char Siew respectively.

The duck was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. Duck meat is not my favourite but this one was cooked to my liking, especially when you eat it with the special duck sauce, it was absolutely perfect!

Nothing to brag about on this Siew Yuk, the top parts weren't crunchy enough.

The sweetness of the Char Siew was just right and the sauce was more watery instead of the sticky type like the one I prefer.

All in all, everything was good except for the Siew Yuk which didn't meet my expectation especially for the price I paid for.
