On my second visit, I ordered the Sarawak laksa!

Now now, before I went for a short vacation in Kuching, people told me that the laksa there is similar to the prawn mee over here. In Kuching, I was brought to a local coffee shop which was full house all the time by a friend of mine and at there, I had the best Sarawak laksa. If you asked me if this laksa at 7th Mile Kitchen is authentic enough, my answer will probably be no.

Presentation wise and taste wise, this laksa is definitely worth recommending to my other friends. But this laksa used a thinner type of mihun and the broth is spicier, which I find it's not really what I expected it to be in the first place. Anyhow, this laksa still tasted delicious with its ingredients!

As for drinks, I ordered 2 types - Matterhorn and White Lady. The former's on your right while the latter is on your right.

I suppose White Lady is a mocktail. It's made of evaporated milk, syrup, and a slice of lemon. The tangy taste of lemon balanced out the sweetness of milk and syrup ;)

As for Matterhorn, it's made of syrup, grass jelly, lychees, crushed ice and slices of lemon. Refreshingly sour! Something like this should be able to keep me awake on a hot afternoon tongue

Kolo Mee & Teh C Peng Special Smile Jun 27, 2012

Categories : Malaysian variety | Restaurant | Noodles

You cannot imagine how happy I was when I found out about this restaurant which serves authentic Sarawak hawker food has opened in KJ.

Ordered the kolo mee and teh C peng special on my first visit. The teh C peng special is also known as 3-layered tea.The most bottom layer is gula atap. I don't drink "teh" but this one is so special that I got addicted to it while I was in Kuching. Not too overly sweet, perfect!

Kolo mee - springy handmade kolo noodles with adequate amount of minced pork, char siew slices, vegetables and spring onions. The one shown here is the white version, meaning to say it's served without the char siew sauce which makes it red in colour. The taste was very close to the one I had in Kuching, so thumbs up for this! lol

Must order: Fu Chok! Smile Jun 27, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Yong Tau Fu

According to my friend, Jackie, this branch of E Soo Yong Tau Fu is always packed all day. Since he recommended this place a couple of times, we had our farewell dinner for one of our mutual friends here.

Located at the corner of shoplots, this restaurant was found easily by the bf. Settled down and we were given a menu. Menu is double-sided; one page shows yong tau fu on one page and savoury dishes on the opposite side. Savoury dishes that are offered here include sambal fish, prawns, different varieties of vegetables etc.

The yong tau fu items that we ordered comprised of fried brinjal, bittergourd, fried fu chuk, dumpling, lady’s finger, tofu with fishball and fried tau fu pok. I think we might have over ordered because we didn't expect the fried fu chok to be big pieces. Oh, they were oily too :| The soup was very tasty but slightly salty.

Still, the 7 of us managed to finish everything! RM75 inclusive of drinks.

Lotus leaf rice Smile Jun 27, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles | Porridge

The food served here promotes health as this restaurant is owned by Eu Yan Sang afterall.

Lotus leaf rice has always been my favourite and the most ordered dish when I visit this place. Glutinous rice was sticky and smelled very good especially when it was served piping hot t. Plenty of ingredients in it; lap cheong, mushrooms, meat.

We all know glutinous rice makes one to feel bloated very easily. Surprisingly I could finish this serving all by myself without feeling queasy, perhaps it's because this lotus leaf rice wasn't that oily.

Be careful not to burn your tongue! tongue

There is one dish that you have to order when you're here at Kissaten, be it day or night, that is the legendary Char siew pizza!

Japanese char siew isn't like the ones we have at stalls. The char siew slices were chopped up and scattered evenly on the pizza, along with some sweet sauce, spring onion, cheese and mayonnaise. I would say each of the ingredients used made this pizza so delicious. The pizza had a thin crust and crunchy edges.

Gyoza. This should be eaten while it's hot otherwise its texture will most likely to be different. A bit too oily for me but that's ok. Juicy fillings which I thought the taste could be enhanced more. Nevertheless one can always eat this with the special sauce served.
