Marmalade Café Smile Aug 15, 2012

Marmalade Café is a great place for afternoon tea with quiet, comfortable ambiance. It serves very delicious homemade cakes and my favourite is their red velvet cake.

This piece of red velvet cake is thickened with layers of cream, but the texture of the cake is very soft, and it is not too sweet after all. I can taste the strong flavours of buttermilk, but very mild cheesiness from the cream cheese topping. I find the cheese too light for me and the color of the cake isn't red enough.

For the chocolate flavour, it is very rich in chocolate sweetness, and not with sugary bits at all. The texture is very gooey when I poke a fork through it. Too thick for me who is not really a chocolate person.

Menya Musashi @ Eat Paradise Smile Aug 15, 2012

Categories : Japanese | Food court | Ramen/Udon/Soba

Menya Musashi is located inside 1 Utama Shopping Mall, within the highest floor of Isetan outlet. The ramen here is quite pricy, around RM20 to RM30 per bowl, but the broth is very thick and gooey. I enjoy the soup which does not soften the noodles at all, yet it is not overly salty.

Served with tender slices of meat and salted egg, it is a very hearty meal and the portion is quite huge. For me, the noodle is quite springy which is a good thing. But the soup base does not have the rich porky aroma and flavours, so it is too light and I have to finish the salted egg to add in better taste.

Fu Li Lai Seafood Restaurant OK Aug 15, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood | Mixed rice

Fu Li Lai is a Chinese restaurant, for casual family dining, with plenty of tables indoors and outdoors. Specializing in seafood, the owner explains that their ingredients are of utmost freshness. In just T-shirt and shorts, I can walk in casually and begin my food journey!

Western Butter Fish (西式奶油鱼) starting from RM30

As we waited patiently, our table is slowly filled up with plenty of piping hot dishes from the kitchen. The fish is the most satisfying dish among all. Crowned with buttery egg floss, the fish comes in a whole and accompanied with generous slices of fillets. Each piece is flaky bursting in a buttery, milky sweet and savoury flavours. However, this dish is quite dry and too salty that I can't really taste the sweetness from the fresh fish. I have to go with a lot of rice there.

Bar.B.Q Plaza, Times Square Smile Aug 15, 2012

Categories : Thai | Restaurant | Steamboat/Hotpot | BBQ

At BarBQ Plaza, I always love the concept of grilling and having steamboat in a clean method, without sweating and having to bear with the smokes like other places. Here it is much hygienic and the set meal comes in a huge portion for meats.

I love to cook the meat 20% raw, so that it can absorb the sweetness from the soup thoroughly while retaining its tenderness. The soup base is quite salty after putting all the ingredients, but overall the taste is balanced up with the chilli sauce.

For my personal taste, I feel that the meat is quite fresh and of high quality. It is tasteless because it is not marinated, so I dip the grilled meat into their signature special thai dark sauce which gives nuances of sweet saltiness. Delicious meal!

Meng Kee Char Siew Smile Aug 11, 2012
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant

Meng Kee Char Siew is famed for its fragrant roasted pork and barbecued meat. I went all the way to Shah Alam very early in the morning just for this and it indeed didn't disappoint me.

The barbecued pork is very sweet and the sauce is really thick and has a melt-in-the-mouth texture. The layers of fatty and lean meat are well proportioned too. Best taken with fragrant rice.
