Dark Chocolate

Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate is good for health and personally I prefer dark chocolate over any other chocolate. The texture was denser and richer than the rest of the ice cream, but less creamy and soft. As you dig into it, you might have to exert more effort. Instead of having two different scoops of ice cream, I opted for one and only one. Dark chocolate is healthy and good thing is it is not that sweet!

Located at the same row as Papa Rich which is just a few doors away (and next to a fruit shop), this simple and humble french patisserie does not look extraordinarily inviting at first glance. However, the sight of colourful macaroons (comprising of exotic flavours such as wasabi, winter truffle, black sesame, pistachio) and delicately handcrafted petite gateux have proven us wrong right away when we first stepped in.

With such vast array of beauty and variety, we were having absolutely tough time in making choices on our 'first kill'. shocked LOL. Hence the patisserie, while calmly put down his half down raspberries (yes they needed to be decorated with a droplet of syrup to enhance the taste), recommended us to go for this ... Le Favori (centre), winter truffle macaroon (right), wasabi macaroon (left).

Le Favori & macaroons

So what is this Le Favori?
Top green layer with chocolate sprinklets are of cheesy texture with tinge of pistachio nuttiness. Below the cheesy layer, there were pistachio sponge layers which are pretty much tasteless, sandwiching the only sweetness of the cake. The sweetness was none other than raspberry cheese. Absolutely fantastic combination of nuttiness and fruittiness with adequate sweetness. Cost: Le Favori (RM15), macaroons (RM5), winter truffles (RM9).

Donned with yellow flakes that hardly falls off like any other typical cakes, this is a dessert not to be messed with lightly. The secret to enjoying the fullness of such mango passion is to do it as slow as you could, letting every small spoonful of sour to mingle with sweet sensation and blowing your mind off with it. While the patisserie intentionally designs the heavier concentrated mango to be at the lower core of the dessert, notice it was supported by a harder and sturdier base beneath it, which makes it another layer if you pay enough attention to it. Not to mention the carefully syrup-ed raspberry and thin dark chocolate slice neatly positioned on top of it! This just makes RM15 worth the value of money. mad

Almond tart awesomeness to the max. Before turning away from this after having a glance at the price (yes this is more expensive, i.e. RM22), admire at the fine details that the patisserie has expressed through internal texture of seemingly simple white tart. Once again, this has absolutely blew my mind off the moment our spoons sank half down to its core - it was HARD. But why? While the top was perfectly shaped with almond and vanilla mousse-like texture, the core of it was in fact ALMOND with white chocolate, and a big DUNK of it. The base was no lesser impressive with double layered texture. Even if you are not a big fan of almonds, being an average photography amateur (like me) is good enough to try this out.

Power of Dark Chocolate: L'Amer
Dark chocolate has always been my personal favourite due to the complexity between tinging sweetness hovered by lingering bitterness. With thick dark chocolate at its core, this is another masterpiece not to be taken lightly for chocolate enthusiasts. It is neither watery nor hard-crusted. It was viscous and the chocolate core would flow really slowly. You certainly need a while to let that happen. Another attractive factor to this, of course was the price (10% discount this month).

We left the place with utmost satisfaction and for certain, that would not be the last minute to park ourselves there. I WILL BE BACK.

The uhuhu cheesecake were more or less the same flavor, it was just the topping that makes them differ from others'.
nothing to shout about, the cake were typically soft and , not very strong pungency of cheese flavor, more like a cotton cheese cake... ;) None of them are impressive.

The fromage bun was the most expensive bun in The Loaf because it took a lot of time in the preparation process and also , consist a lot of expensive nuts and other ingredients to make such high-end bun.
It cost RM20 per loaf.
It consist of cream cheese, walnuts, apricot, pecan and etc...
The outer layer of the fromage is super chewy, and tough!!!!! But i love it , it goes very well with coffee.

Custard bun & Egg Tarts Smile Aug 17, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles | BBQ

Room Eighteen is a restaurant under the management of Tai Thong Group which sells a variety of Hong Kong cuisines and dim sums. Today, I packed their famous custard buns and egg tarts home to eat as my supper.

Custard bun (RM 5.80)
One set of custard buns consisted of 3 medium sized soft buns.

The custard buns' fillings consisted of a paste made from egg yolk and sweet custard. Remember to eat the buns when they are hot as the fillings will flow out from the bun and melts in the mouth. Super creamy and rich in egg yolk taste. One bun is never enough for me, thus I ate all three in one go. Extremely full after consuming all the buns.

Crispy egg tart (RM 4.30)
One set of egg tart consisted of two egg tarts.

The pastry is quite flaky and crispy but I don't really like the pastry because I find it a bit thick.

The egg custard is soft, smooth and runny and melts in the mouth. And the best part is the egg custard is not really sweet, just right for me.....Yummy yummy....

Total damage including 6 % tax = RM 10.70

The kiosk stall which is located on Tokyo Street at Pavillion (Level 6) has a display counter and you can watch your wagashi being prepared.

Wagashi is actually hot cakes adorned with an assortment of yummy fillings.

The paper bag for packing the take-away wagashi is cute with a cartoon girl figure which is the logo for this stall.

This was how the wagashi looks like served.

The filling I chose was Belgium Chocolate with cream. The wagashi is best eaten hot although when cool, it taste just like Japanese sweet cakes, texture is still soft but the cream has melted inside. I could taste the chocolate which was a bit bitter and it was not too sweet. Really loved the crunchy taste of the crust. Will try other flavours soon.
