1.The One Hong Kong Café @ Kota Kinabalu Karamunsing Capital

This is a Chinese restaurant where the boss started the business along with his partner that brings the style of Hong Kong dishes into Kota Kinabalu. They designed the restaurant from a pub into a Hong Kong style restaurant. it is located behind of Paparich restaurant at the Karamunsing Capital street.

Hong Kong style food of course are available here like the French Toast, Egg Sandwich, Iced Milk Tea, Cheese Baked Rice and Pork Chop Rice!

There are about 40 types of Chinese foods in the menu including various type of braised food, such as braised pork belly, braised chicken, braised pork's ear & tofu, HK style curry and HK style beef brisket noodles too available here. The business hour is from 9.00am to 10.00pm daily. Dishes tried: Wolfberry Longan Jujube Tea (RM6.00), Fungus Longan (RM8.50), Durian Smoothie (RM8.50), Double Boiled Milk (RM5.50), Nissin Noodles - Luncheon meat with egg (RM11.50), Braised pork noodle (RM9.00), French toast (RM6.50), Beef Brisket Noodle (RM10.00), Iced Milk Tea (RM7.00), Braised Pork Belly (RM15.00)

2. Pin Xiang Bak Kut Teh @ Warisan Square

Famous Klang Bak Kut Teh is here too! Chef Ah Tat has the experience of selling Bah Kut Teh in Klang, thus he has started his own business at Warisan Square in Kota Kinabalu. Chef Ah Tat is experienced and used to be the main BKT chef in one of the famous BKT restaurant in Klang. What's special about this Bah Kut Teh is that they are just similar with the Klang Hokkien Association's style - served in a claypot! Difference between Klang and Kota Kinabalu Bah Kut Teh: - Klang’s Bah Kut Teh are stronger in taste - The broth are more concentrated and thicker - Kota Kinabalu’s Bah Kut Teh serves white rice - Klang’s version serve shallot oil rice (the traditional ones are oilier) - Klang’s version serves meat in portion while kota Kinabalu ones are smaller in size but neatly placed inside Well, we noticed that the one here serves without Fried Bean Curd Skin, Mushrooms and vegetables. We'll give this feedback to the chef soon!

Ah Tat operate his business from 11.00am to 11.00pm (or earlier if it is sold out). The restaurant is still having the old fashion style of “Dry Bah Kut Teh” , if you like heavier taste of Bah Kut Teh, do not miss it out! Other than that, there are many other dishes like Bah Kut meatball soup, Pepper with Pig's Stomach soup, Pork's intestines and pork knuckle as well. Dishes tried: Claypot Bah Kut Teh (RM10.00 small), Dry Bah Kut Teh (RM12.00 small), Rice Wine with Pig's Kidney (RM7.00), Pork Belly (RM9.00), Spare Ribs (RM9.00), Tofu Pok (RM1.50), Pork's small ribs (RM7.00)

3. China Elements @ Kota Kinabalu Oceanus Waterfront Mall

China Elements is located at Oceanus Waterfront Mall. This Chinese restaurant is a combination of China and Hong Kong style! Mentioning about HK style cafes, do they reminds you of 'Wong Kok' or 'Kim Gary' restaurant?

The main chef of this restaurant is from Guang Zhou, the chef has experiences working in Hilton Hotel’s main kitchen. This restaurant is more on China style, the main dishes here is Dim Sum and Roasted dishes and canton's dishes.

4. Ron’s Kopitiam

Most of the Kopitiam in Malaysia are more or less are the same but Ron’s Kopitiam a little different compared to other. The business operations are divided into day and night section, 2 different peoples take turn to operate their business. Their famous “Dong Shao” curry mee which is named as Curry Laksa for KL’s people. Other than Dong Shao curry mee, this Chinese restaurant also has Penang's famous Char Kuey Teow. Besides, there is a dish that is called Steamed 'Dai Ban' (steamed flat rice noodle). It is considered as Northern Malaysian’s favourite dish.

There is confusion if you don’t know how to differentiate them. Steamed 'Dai Ban' is actually bigger in piece and it is eaten with sourish gravy that makes it so good! So, you will be wondering where the sour taste comes from? It comes from the tomato; and their steamed 'Dai Ban' uses fish slices, ginger slices, mushrooms, prawn, squid, minced meat and eggs. Other than steamed 'Dai Ban', there are also fried 'Dai Ban' as well which is called as 'Wak Tan Ho' here! Besides, there is another signature dish of – Teochew Steamed Fish Head. Chef usually recommend us this dish whenever we visit them! Dishes tried: Curry Ho Fan (RM7.00), Char Keuy Teow (RM7.00), Thai Style Sotong (RM12.00), Steamed 'Dai Ban' (RM8.00 per pax), Thai style squid and Teochew Steamed Fish Head.
