Yummy Yummy, Hameed Mee Sotong is our top pick for Mee Sotong in Penang, it simply the best and my all time favorite. It taste sweet and sauteed, always "tambah sotong", every spoon also full with sotong is my favorite. although the environment is not so friendly, pretty hot but it definitely worth it. parking is another problem but try to be there before 11.30am then you can easily find a good parking spot.

I think it's quite important to have a local bringing you along when it comes to hunting for Penang food. If it wasn't for my friend, I would never had try this amazing plate of Mee Sotong. Situated at a tired looking food court, Hameed Mee Sotong (squid noodles) is the only stall with super long line. We send 2 person to order for us while we sat down to relax, and it took maybe around half an hour for our dishes to arrive. Well, you order on the spot and they will fry on the spot for you. Which actually is pretty quick. It's just the lining up. Anyway to the food.

Wah... just by judging the look you know it's going to be tasty, in a very messy-gravy-dripping-down-your-chin way. And they weren't stingy with the pieces of sotong either (the redder strips). It was hands down the best 'mamak' type dish I have ever had in my life. There was so much flavours in it. The sotong was definitely the umami factor and also infused in the sauce coating the noodles, along with the aroma of fried shallots and spring onions. Every mouthful was simply heavenly. It also packs quite a bit of heat. I was deeply satisfied.

So next time if I ever have freetime in Penang and has a friend who drives, I will be going there!

Hi travelers I guess there is a must try local food that you seriously can not miss if you are travelling in Pulau Penang. Sotong Mee, or directly translated into English is "Squid Noodle".

I have heard of it for so long and today I finally have a chance to savor the famous noodle.

The food court can be reached pretty easily, it is around the corner of Penang Unesco Heritage, just opposite the entrance of the Cornwallies.

The food court looks like a typical Malaysian food court, I mean no air-con and its not luxurious. Usually these "unluxurious" places are actually where you can taste the true cultures of Penang, just like the Penang road Cendol.

This how the food looks like, you will be so delightful if you are feverish over spicy food, it is quite spicy, the squid is cut into slices, they are easily chewable. You must squeeze the piece of lime comes with the noodle, because it makes the taste wonderful.

The price of the food is reasonable, it ranges from RM 4.00 to RM 6.00, depends on the size you ordered. If you order extra squid slices, don't feel stunned by a higher price.

Coconut Shake
If you can't eat spicy food or you can't stand the spiciness, there is a solution for you, "Coconut Shake", which is also another attraction of this food court. The price is RM 2.50 for a glass. This beverage is a mixture of coconut and vanilla ice cream, you can see the ice cream float submerges from the glass. The taste is great and icy, especially you know Malaysia is a equatorial country, the weather is so hot. It effectively relieves your heat.
