It was pretty easy to find as it was conveniently located opposite Old Town White Coffee. Parking was easier near the used car dealer lots plus it was the evening.

Udon ya San has an unassuming shop front but pleasing to the eye. As I parted the noren (Japanese door hanging), I was greeted by an almost Zen like interior. It has minimalistic decor using mainly wooden furniture. Functional yet cosy.

I was welcomed by the ubiquitous 'Irrashaimase!' as the smiling host walked towards me. I chose a table with benched seats along the wall and proceeded to review the menu.

Udon ya San's specialty is their daily made fresh udon I was informed. Sounds good! I ordered the Mentaiko Udon (RM14), Sesame dressing salad (RM5) and hot Ocha (RM1.50).

Mentaiko Udon was a creamy dish with fish roe and finely julienne cucumber. Eagerly I mixed the dish and tried the udon ... Hmmm creamy chewy udon flavoured nicely by the slight saltiness of the roe. The cucumber added a little crunch. Nice contrasts. Love it!

The sesame dressing salad provided the fibre in my meal. It was a mixture of finely chopped cabbage and carrots in a tasty sesame dressing. Appetising! However, I thought there was a tad too much dressing which made the cabbage and carrots kind of soggy. I wonder if they could serve the dressing on the side the next time I order it.

Overall, for the price of the dishes, it was good value (I ordered the most expensive dish on the menu!) Their Kakeudon is only RM6! Served with the chef's own chilli concoction to boot! Too full to try it this time. Will definitely be back for more udon and enjoy the gracious and attentive service from the host and the staff.
I give a score of 4.5 out of 5 for presentation and taste, service and value for money!
Other Info. : Daily handmade udon. Chef's own chilli.
