Bangsar is full of interesting new eateries and Wondermama is one of them that serves up fusion food. Think Naan Pizza, Nasi Lemak with Soft Shell Crabs, Otak Otak in a Sandwich. They also paid attention to their tableware and used vintage stuff. Where else can you find enamel cups nowadays? Wondermama serves up that bit of Nostalgia with modernised food, interesting concept, I must say. While having a meeting there one day, I ordered a Nyonya laksa and this colourful bowl of piping hot noodles arrived at our table.
This looks promising, doesn't it? Unfortunately this is where the food actually looks better than its taste. The thing I liked most about it was the blood cockles, and only that. The broth was lacking the depth of flavours usually present in Nyonya laksa and tasted somewhat diluted. While the addition of herbs helped, I couldn't finish it after having a few mouthfuls. And I actually was really hungry at the time.
It probably didn't help that the portion was so large (plenty of noodles), as Laksa is usually served in a much smaller bowl when you have it at your regular kopitiam. But I guess I should have ordered the Nasi Lemak instead.
Luckily, the coffee there was pretty good and my latte had the perfect ratio of milk, froth and espresso. Note the cute cookies, used to have them when I was at kindergarten!With many other good eateries around, it's very unlikely I will return to this place, unless it's just for a coffee or two.
