Unlike the conventional way of eating Lei Cha rice, the similar fare by Ying Ker Lou is slightly different and the idea is fresher too, that is to have it the fried way. This method for one, would be more appealing to those foodophile who feels quite intimidated with the usual big bowl of greenish soup, and at the other hand, the rice is much more fragrant and dish up with more ‘wok hei’- at least this time it gets thumbs up from him, lol) Each grain of rice is chewy and thoroughly immersed with the essence of Lei Cha, but still not that apparent flavorwise. Nevertheless, you get to enjoy the engaging aroma of the fried egg alongside with the various texture of the greens side dishes. I enjoy the way they sprinkled the white sesame concentrated at one area and the pickled radish is very crisp too. As for the soup, it is delightful and not that strong in the tea taste. Subtle and hearty.

Claypot Yee Mee. Although Ying Ker Lou is famous for hakka cuisines, I know that Claypot Yee Mee is not a hakka cuisine, but I still ordered it anyway. The Claypot Yee Mee came with Chinese black mushrooms, minced meat, egg and vegetables. I stirred the egg to give the soup an eggy texture. The soup was clear and slightly salty due to the yee mee. It was a decent Claypot Yee Mee.

A great place for lunch if you are looking for hakka food and this place also has set lunches. This restaurant can be quite busy during peak hours though the food is worth waiting for. One of my favourite dishes here is the steamed pork hakka style. There is a layer of finely chopped ginger to enhance the taste of the pork marinated with a hint of rice wine. The meat is chewy and not overcooked.

Assorted Mushroom Bantiao Noodle Soup.
As its name depicts, this dish comes with a variety of mushrooms species in just a hearty bowl. You could actually ask for dry version if you prefer that. The soup was quite flavourful albeit its plain appearance. The noodle was seen exactly like pan mee flat-sized, thus I couldn’t actually differentiate between these two much, hehe. It was full of mushroom aroma too, which could be overwhelming for those who don’t enjoy many mushrooms. There were varieties of Shitake, Enoki and slices of Erynghi stem, but overall, those side dishes didn’t really stand out. At least, the decent amount of greens was able to spice up a vegan’s day! ^^

Pork Bantiao Noodle Soup.
This fare seems better presentation wise. There were meatballs , some pork livers, which we both yet to learn how to enjoy it
, and also some vegetables. The bantiao and soup compared to mine, looked very much alike in many ways, just that they come in distinctive display according to the theme.

For their lunch set, you also get to enjoy complimentary dessert and drink of the day.

The barley drink was nice and thirst-quenching, while the glutinous rice balls in Red Dragon Fruit was pretty spicy with its heavy-loaded gingers! ~.~ ……….. I believed they should be from Bentong variety as I heard that the older and spicier the ginger grows, the more fragrance it is! Wah…… enlightening indeed! But I shall give it a pass still

Well, hakka food.I quite like hakka food because their food is all strong taste.I prefer this way.This is the hakka fried pork.Quite nice.The pork is quite soft but too much of fat on it.The sauce is very strong taste and aromatic.And the black fungus is always appear in hakka fried pork.But i don't really like it,it's actually extra and i don't really need it in a fried pork.

So far, I found Poon Choi served at Ying Ker Lou is the best I had in town not even at Dragon I. This dish consists of fresh pan fried prawns, vegetables, taufoo, beancurd wraps, chicken, oysters, pork "tung poh yoke" and egg noodles underneath and placed in a wooden basin.

It comes in 2 sizes to choose. The whole Pun Choi was tasty, like a combination of some of the Hakka dishes in the menu mixed and served in a wooden basin. Yummilicious! The temptation look and taste can really made everyone so looking forward to this and only dish. This dish is certainly very filling. The Prawns were medium big and served fresh. Oysters as everyone knows it has strong seafood taste and finally the pork "tung poh yoke" pork belly was fermented with red bean curd (Nam Yee) and fried with gravy. Last but not least, the noodles which soaked at the bottom of all the delicious dishes turned out so tasty to eat without any dipping required.
