I was rushing for a movie with my ex-colleague in 1 Utama where we were supposed to watch "Cafe. Waiting. Love." so we just went to any cafe in 1 Utama. Since I have never tried this Xiao Bar Wang in the old wing, I took the risk and gave this a try. We both ordered the Mee Sua. Unfortunately, it was a major disappointment when it came with meatballs instead of oysters like how they usually prepare Taiwanese meee sua. The drink which was Flower Tea was horrible. The taste was so weird and we almost puked.  continue reading

Guess another outlet chain has joined the sea of Taiwanese food flooding Klang Valley nowadays, .It seems to be some famous Taiwanese street food, being offered together with bento dishes. Reminds me of Shihlin Taiwan snacks of course We tried the Bento Set of Fried Pork Chop as well as the Fish Fillet. Both comes decently good, fresh and crispy. However, the Pork Shop seems to be the cream de la cream as it is better marinated compared to the others. Thus resulted in a more flavorful and toothsome fare.  continue reading

One rainy evening, caught in 1 Utama shopping mall with the budget of only RM10. I wandered around to find a warm cozy place to fill my stomach, warm my body, rest and relax while waiting for the rain to stop. With only RM10 left. I didn't want to overspend it by going to any fancy restaurant/stalls or fast food outlet. Washing the plates ain't a nice option to end the evening as well, hehe.. so I found this place called: Xiao Bar Wang. From it's flyer, I've ordered Menu Set A: Mee Suah & Drink. The entrance featured a young male warrior that looks like Chen Ekin in ancient Chinese warrior attire with his thumbs up & killer smile. The table, chairs are very Taiwanese street market style. There were 2 monitor outside & inside which features local & foreign celebrites talking about the history of that Xiao Bar Wang. Seems that it's from Singapore but inspired by Taiwan street food. On the wall decorated with various pictures of local & foreign celebrities, customers & celebrations. On another side of the wall, mounted on it is a big blackboard (reminds me of school times). On it were hand drawn with chalk pictures of 3 types of drink options available (at all their set menu): Flower Tea, Black Sugar Lime and Milk TeaOn each table, it's sticked with almost A3 plastic poster with the information:"Hello! Please place your order at the counter"Take note that our food can be served:Spicy/Less Spicy/Not SpicyWith it's website details, QR Code & of course the signature Xiao Bar Wang Logo in English & Chinese. All orders are made & paid at the entrance, while the food order whether it's take-away or eating there are collected inside of the shop at the corner. The collection counter consists of:- magazine (read materials for the bored)- utensils (straw, fork, spoons - all plastic form only)- tissue - pepper - 2 poster with cute illustration & short description of "How to Eat Mee Suah"So for those who are new & want to experiment & experience. There are plenty of guidance. My dinner: Set A menu:- Black Sugar Lime & Mee Suah with Meatball.Drink options available: Flower Tea, Black Sugar Lime and Milk Tea. I choose Lime because it's good for sore throat and sinus problem & Vitamin C.It's by far the best lime drink I've ever drank! I wouldn't mind going there just for their drink, I can taste that it's not those commercial type of black sugar lime. The taste of it is good, not bland or too sweet. Meatball options available: Pork or ChickenI choose Pork because it's harder to get a good pork meatball & I wanted to try if it's any good. The portion of Mee Suah is average. Surprisingly the gravy isn't thick & the mee/noodle isn't too soft. The soup is rather clear but still tasty very different compared to the normal more well known Oyster Mee Suah which is usually thick, left a strong seafood after taste. I've opted for spicy version & the spiciness certainly stings. It reminded me very much of chili pepper not like our normal chili curry/sambal like. The noodles used are also different, with more soft yet chewy texture. Soft but surprisingly it doesn't melt away with the soup. Here's a closer picture of the meat balls, chilli Sauce, cilantro & garlic ginger oil. The red spots are the chili sauce, while the oily patch are garlic ginger oil which makes the whole bowl very fragrant. Need to mix the sauce with the noodles before eating it.It was certainly eye opening tasting & going to this store for the first time. I will definitely return to taste other dishes & drink. Based on my observations:The food quality, value, customer service, affordable price, unique ambiance environment certainly kept the place ongoing busy & pack. The food were served pretty quickly within 5-15mins. Many ordered to take-aways, all their food package & storage containers - paper bowl & cups, plastic utensils are simple yet compact & feasible enough to pack quickly for take aways. The same containers are also used for those that opted to eat there, these cut down the time to clean up - definitely a smart strategy. continue reading

Xiao Bar Wang serves authentic Taiwanese snacks. The first branch in Malaysia is in One Utama Shopping Complex. The restaurant design is very simple with less than 10 tables in it. It is a self service restaurant and you need to roder your food at the counter. Their signature dish is mer sua and crispy pork/chicken. For taiwan mee sua lover but not fancy of oyster, you should try their mee sua as they only put pork ball inside. The crispy fried fillet comes with 2 choices, which is chicken or pork. For rice lovers, you should try their Braised pork rice or Bento Pork Rice. Nevertheless, at the price of 90 cents, you can try their tea egg as well. One of their signature drink is Flower Tea. Overall, i think all the food here is really nice and worth the money. continue reading

Taiwan is at the top of the list of the few countries that we MUST go some day in our lives. The main reason is that that country is famous for it's food. Now, with all the technology and how the world is improving, we don't only get to eat Taiwanese food in Taiwan itself. We already can have their food in our country. Honestly, the Taiwanese food is starting to conquer the food industry in Malaysia. Like the bubble tea, taiwanese desserts like Snowflake and not to forget their snacks like the XXL chicken and the mee sua that can be found in various stalls like Shihlin, Farmosa and Xiao Bar Wang, the stall that we are going to talk about today.I ordered their Jumbo Set . Their Jumbo Set consist of a bowl of Mee Sua with meat balls, one Tea Egg, Crispy Chicken and a drink of you choice, which you can choose from Flower Tea, Black Sugar Lime and Milk Tea. Let's start with their Mee Sua. Comparing to other Taiwanese stalls, the smell of the Mee Sua isn't as strong because they didn't use Oyster. They replaced it with meat balls. But we really like it. The consistency was good and the noodles were soft and the soup had the right amount of seasoning. With additional cilantro and a little chili paste, the mee sua tasted even better with a better aroma. Not to forget the amount of mee sua was so much, it can be shared for two people. For the Tea Egg, it was just average, nothing special. But I really like the drink we ordered! We had their Black Sugar Lime. It wasn't too sour. Had the right amount of sweetness. A suitable drink for a hot day. This is their Crispy Chicken. Something really good about it is that, they do not fry the first. It's when you order, then they fry it on the spot for you. So when it's served, it's hot and crispy. It's really good, because the layer of the flour is really crunchy and crispy. It had the right ratio of flour and chicken. You know sometimes they have too much flour and too little chicken. This is really good. One more good thing is that it comes in small pieces. So you don't have to tear the chicken with our mouth and get our mouth dirty and oily. I also ordered their Bento Pork Rice . It comes with steam rice top over with fried pork, steam vegetables, half of the tea egg, salty vegetables and a piece of potato steamed with a certain sauce. The pork pieces went really well with the steamed rice, and the vegetable was not bitter at all, meaning it's fresh. The salty vegetable was a tit a little too salty. The potato tasted good, but it was a little cold already. continue reading
