Waku Waku is another new Japanese restaurant situated in Midvalley Megamall. My interest was piqued after seeing a blog about their Nasi Lemak Jepun. I like it when restaurants are innovative with their dishes. So I brought my mum and brother few days ago to dine here. The menu consists of some regular Japanese such as sushi and sashimi. But it also has a page dedicated to Pan-Asian dishes with Japanese touch. Japanese Char Kueh Tiaw, Japanese style Bibimbap were amongst these interesting dishes.

Salmon Carpaccio.

Nice presentation and the salmon slices were fresh enough. I like the dressing (wafu, I think) they used on the salad. However, sparing a little dressing on the salmon would be nice too as they were quite tasteless. There was no soy sauce on the table.

My Nasi Lemak Jepun was indeed a creative dish. Comes with a runny egg on the rice in a hot stone pot, braised soy sauce chicken, mild prawn sambal, pickled radish, anchovies and peanuts. The chicken was falling off the bone and nicely seasoned (you can't go wrong with a braised chicken dish I feel), and the sambal complements well with the rice which was coated with egg yolk and still sizzling away. The pickled radish provided a much need piquancy to balance the richness. Overall quite a successful dish.

The service was good, and pricing was quite reasonable as well. I'd come back to sample more dishes here.

When dine in a Japanese restaurant, I tend to look at its hamburger dishes. The best pairing would be beef hamburger with Japanese curry rice. But sadly, the only place that has this dish, Pasta de Gohan is nowhere to be found. So, at Waku Waku, I ordered the Cheese Hamburger with Rice. It looked good when served on a hotplate. I quite like the brown sauce where it gives just the right salty and sweet taste at the right creamy texture. The hamburger was good and juicy. Underneath the sunny side

It looked good when served on a hotplate. I quite like the brown sauce where it gives just the right salty and sweet taste at the right creamy texture. The hamburger was good and juicy. Underneath the sunny side up, lies caramelised onions, which is a great addition as I loved its sweet charred taste. It also comes with slices of potatoes too.

The portion of the meat is good, just that the salad seems to be a little pathetic. I believe Waku Waku could serve a bigger portion with the price imposed.

Waku Waku has been just opened at Mid Valley Megamall and since the name sounds fun, I went to try it out one day. I personally loved the interior of the restaurant where it hangs pretty lamps and has the greenery decorations of plants and flowers at one side. However, it looked pretty empty on the other side with just wooden frames. It would be great if they hang over some colourful cloths over the frames to have a better atmosphere.I tried the Grilled Salmon with Minced Chicken Rice. It looked

I tried the Grilled Salmon with Minced Chicken Rice. It looked promising sitting on a stone bowl. I was told by the waiter to mix everything together before eating it. But then, I noticed the chilli paste on top of the salmon. Hhmm, this might be surprising. True to my thought, it gives out quite a strong spicy flavour to the overall rice. The salmon was great too but I prefer it not to be overcooked as the hot stone bowl cooks everything up, even charring the rice a little. The minced chicken was flavourful too.

Dragon Roll (RM 14.90)
Dragon roll is actually fried shrimp sushi roll with avocado topped with fish roe............The green layers of the avocado resembles the scales of a dragon; therefore it is given the name Dragon Roll. The shrimp being used is quite meaty and fresh...yummy yummy.......

Potato Salad (RM 8.90)
I like the taste of this salad....not bad.....I also like the keropok in the salad, making it crispier to eat with the veges......

Aside from the above, Waku Waku also have the following in their menu:

To end my lunch at Waku Waku, I ordered Annin Tofu as my desert. Annin Tofu is also known as Almond Jelly/Almond Tofu/Almond Custard. Annin Tofu is actually a very popular desert found in Hong Kong and Japan. But now, you do not need to go to Japan/Hong Kong to savour this desert because you can find it at Waku Waku and also many restaurants in Malaysia.Although the name is called almond tofu, the desert is often prepared using apricot kernels and not almonds but the flavor is similar. Annin Tofu (Almond custard) ~ RM 6.90
A very light and refreshing desert with a texture very similar to soft and creamy silken tofu and not too sweet. It melts in your mouth.
