Sashimi rice set as main course for dinner!!The presentation of the food is nice. Everything on the plate was well put in the little cube bowl. The ingredients for this sashimi rice set are unagi, red tuna, salmon, mentaiko, some other fish that I have no idea, eggs roll and lemon with carrots for the decoration. Taste wise all these are up to the standard and freshness brings sweetness to the meat. With a dip of wasabi, you will feel real good!

Terriyaki chicken is one of the most simple and common dish in Japanese restaurant. The way of cooking it is the same everywhere. But the main point to look into it will be the marination of their chicken into the terriyaki sauce. Terriyaki chicken rice set here in Umaiya is sweet and I love the way they grilled it a little. Sashimi a la carte as appetizer is always what I will do when I was in Japanese restaurant.It can be used as a way to know the quality of the chef in that particular restaurant. try this umaiya- at damansara uptown they also have outlet in suria klcc nearby the madam kawan but instead found this cool place for japanes food. quite expensive but worth trying.inside is really high class and impressive deco aso just order few range of food to try on such as the egg sushi and taufu type. quite delicious and serving is big portion too. the rice is nicely wrap

try the ebiko here taste good with nice serving on the japanese style plate. the portion is quite alot for every pieces of the nicely done ebiko. The restaurant explores variations of flavour and ingredients and frequently offer seasonal dishes. A la carte and set menus available.the udon looks greats too. service is nice here and impressive deco they have it here.

Assorted Sashimi. The platter consisted five types of sashimi: salmon, tuna, prawn and two more type of fish. The tuna sashimi was soft and powdery texture which I do not fancy. The salmon sashimi was thickly cut, it was juicy and springy. The prawn sashimi was super soft till the extend like watery like that. The white fish meat was solid and fresh. Quite a ice platter.

That day I did not order any sashimi but I was cravy for salmon, so I ordered the salmon sushi, the basic sushi that is famous. Umai-ya version was topped with some big crab roe (I think). The crab roe burst into liquid when I bid open, I do not fancy this type of texture, so I put aside the roe. The salmon was not a thin piece, very fresh and springy. I enjoyed this sushi.

Octopus Sushi. I always like chuka lidako (baby octopus) and always will order one bowl of it. However, that day I tried the octopus sushi. The sushi top looked exactly the same as the chuka lidako and tasted the same. The baby octopus were springy and sweet. The marination was very fragrant with the sesame. Eaten together with the Japanese rice, it balanced up the taste.

Nabeyaki Udon. My favourate item in a Japanese restaurant is Nabeyaki Udon. This was the first time I tried Umai-Ya version. It came in a hot pot and the udon was topped with egg, prawn tempura, naruto, need mushrooms and some chicken slices. When it was served, my egg was some what cooked and I can't smash it into the hot soup to have a more eggy texture. The broth was sweet and not too salty.

Since it was a buffet and we wanted to try everything, we ordered the sanma and the saba fish. Half of the sanma fish was burnt which made it does not look presentable. The skin was quite salty. Since it was burnt, we removed the skin and just ate the meat. The meat was not so moist as it was being over-grilled. This was slightly out of standard, maybe it is like as they need to rush for buffet orders.

The grilled prawns were being served in a skewer. Each of the prawn was being stick onto a stick and being grilled. The prawns were not too big in sized and thus lesser meat. No doubt we like to eat this, the meat was succulent and overall it was slightly salty only. I just don't like peeling off the shell from the prawns which make it troublesome. However, I will still order it next time.

The soft shell crab portion was small. Since I ate the crispy tempura, I would expect their soft shell crab to be crispy. However, I was disappointed by it. From the look of it, it was oily. Indeed, when I bite the body part, the oil oozes out from the crab. It was very soggy which I do not like it, as it was too soft. Furthermore, it was salty too. I do not like this dish, so do my friends.

We saw the mushroom soup from the ala-carte buffet menu, so we ordered one. It came in a bowl of a variety of mushrooms which I could not make out all the names. I only know needle mushrooms. The soup was clear but heavily laden with mushroom essence. It was somehow slightly bitter but when I drink it hot, the taste was quite nice. I ordered another bowl of this as well.

The seafood tempura consisted prawn and fish fillet. The tempura coating was crispy and it was not really oily. The prawns were medium-sized and they were succulent. The prawns somehow tasted sweet and the batter was somewhat salty. The fish fillet was springy. It was an above average tempura by Umaiya and I quite like this tempura, so I ordered a second serving.
