i always believed that to enjoy true Indian food, you need to go to an Indian restaurant
however the chef at tonka bean created a tasty lamb masala and a nice and warm chapati bread to go with it
of course they had other common curry dishes to go with the chapati but using lamb for the masala was indeed a fusion twist of western influence and Indian cooking
this is because they usually go for mutton instead
the masala was very fragrant but not too spicy, i suppose it is to cater to the foreign tourists who stay at the hotel

i am not too sure what type of fish that was used in this dish perhaps it is dory fish because it is the most versatile fish which you can use to pan fry, grill, bake and etc.there was a brinjal carved to look like a flower that was in the serving pot for garnish but I thought it was completely unnucessarythe fish fillet was actually cut rather small, i guess that's good so that people can just take a piece to try and only if they like it they go for more

I had the opportunity to dine at Tonka Bean Cafe in Impiana Hotel KLCC last night, and it was a pleasant affair. I must say, for a preview buffet dinner, they did not hold back on the variety of dishes offered. We were spoilt for choice last night. Never one to turn down an offer to have some mouthwatering satays, it was the first dish I "attacked" that evening. Juicy enough, it did whet my appetite for more dishes. The satay was perfectly prepared, without being overburnt, and meat was not too tough. Taken with the peanut sauce, I went for a couple of rounds of satays.

Another staple dish for almost every Ramadhan buffet would be the prized grilled lamb, shown in whole, and carved by the chef for our consumption. It does go well with the sauces and condiments, without having the heavy lamb aftertaste. It was good though, as I went for seconds at the "lamb" table.

From the collage of photos above, you would have thought it was more than enough to fill our stomach. With all that good food, it was a wonder how my stomach could take in more of the cakes and desserts after that.

Not being a fan of raw or seafood which were close to being raw and on ice, I skipped the fresh mussels on ice, prawns and crabs. I am more of a "fried and grilled food" type of person. It does look colourful and good though. My friend who tasted these, told me they were fresh enough, and any fresh seafood is good seafood.

Ample desserts were available for those with a craving of sweet stuff, including 18 flavours of Baskin Robbins ice creams, gula sago melaka, cream caramel, and even a sweet chocolate fountain with condiments. Feasting on the desserts alone may just be enough to fill my whole stomach for the night, so approach with caution, and do not overeat.

International buffet lunch at Tonka Bean @ RM62++ isn't so bad after all. It's rather value for money with the variety of Western & Local Delights. Prawns and mussels are fresh and the bonus dessert is Baskin Robbins ice-cream! The downside is the hotel's car park, it's narrow and limited (average 5 bays per level). I'm considered an "OK" driver, yet I got stressed up parking here. So, be forewarned!

For BR lovers, this is where you can whack as much as BR as you like. The only thing about BR here is they did not label the ice cream properly. What I reckoned that I had in my bowl was strawberry cheesecake, praline and cream, and cookies and cream. All of them was very very sweet (and sinful!). The texture was slightly better than Wall's or Nestle, so are their variations. However the best ice cream is not them, that's for sure.

Standing high and tall were the marshmallow sticks, awaiting the moment to be picked up and be coated with the glorious chocolate. Sitting on the dessert corner was this mung bean dessert, loaded with lots of sago. The texture was good; smooth and creamy. I appreciated the use of sago which made it more enjoyable. Somehow I believe sago made the dessert smoother.

Made as thin crust pizza, this was slightly soggy, which could be due to left exposed to air for too long (ie not baked fresh). The flavor was alright and the olives were not too overwhelming. However I wouldn't waste my calories on this. This fried long beans was better than I thought. Though the name was said to be "fried long beans", the texture was closer to steamed long beans. Soft and slightly mashy, it was good to go with some briyanis, or pita (eat it with some meat too!).

Pita is too plain to eat on its own, but great to go with side dishes, be it curry or similar. This pita was very thinly made. It felt moistened, thus it did not taste too powdery. I could taste the flour in it but it was a delightful one. I ate my pita with Jeera potatoes, which was heavily spiced. The flavor wasn't as flavorful as it was muted by the potatoes. It could be intentional but I am sure it could be slightly more flavorful. Spice wise, it was very fragrant and not too much to eat it

Chocolate mousse promises a cake which is so moistened that you just go "mmmhmmm". Yes, no doubt, this was very moistened and creamy. I wouldn't say it was not good but slightly heavy to end my already overloaded dinner. Nothing to shout about, that was for sure but overall, it was not bad. This, in turn, was a big disappointment. In terms of texture, it was too boring. The bread had the similar texture to the pudding, which I think it should be contrasting with one another but moistened overall.

Flavor wise, it was not sweet at all, without the vanilla sauce, which was alright but the texture totally screwed it!

Carrot is not my thing due to its strong smell when it is raw. This carrot soup was much inviting that I thought it would be. It was something new to me. It was actually a different version of normal bubur. This was with spices and flavor which I found very flavorful and appetizing. Creamy and just the right density, it was very smooth on tongue. I loaded mine with kacang and ikan bilis, which added contrasting crunchy texture to it.

Overall, I liked these two
