Sorta warming us up in the air-conditioned room is the “Cha Wang” tea a.k.a King of Tea. It is one of the premium tea range that allows you to enjoy a mellow and smooth mouthfeel that boost rejuvenation especially for a tired soul. Looks dainty when served in the exquisite ceramic.

Soon the night kicks off with the iconic dish, Royal Flush Salmon with Yee Sang. The resulted blending is actually quite nice and appetizing, with the crispness from the greens and crackers.

After the light moment, comes the Double Boiled Top Shell with Ginseng Root.
Just one sip is what it tastes to get testified as a good bowl of nourishing soup. Clear and flavorful, along with the chewy bites of top shell with the captivating ginseng hints. Awesome!

Next we have the Steamed Kampung Chicken with Dried Scallops. Finally, I get to taste some healthy meat in this urban city. The meat of the free range fowl is very tender, nicely steamed with the sweetness of dried scallops.

Making its appearance shortly is the Steamed Dragon Garoupa Fish with Superior Soy Sauce. My all-time favourite dish, for an avid fish-lover. Fish flesh is sparkling fresh, juicy and sweet.

Seafood fan would be thrill when greeting this plate of Fried Prawn with Batter Sauce. Big and juicy prawns are being lightly fried earlier on, before smothered with creamy sauce that looks like butter sauce to me in fact. After taking a taste of it, apparently there is not much of buttery tinge, but rather plain yellow sauce. I would enjoy this dish more if some curry leaves are added to it to inject some spice aroma, and some more butter to make it further smoother. So worry not as it is not that terribly sinful

Joining us on the round table up next is the Sea Cucumber Seasonal Vegetable with Abalone Sauce. This is one of the must-have menu during CNY as a symbol or luxury and wealth. Dish arrived appealingly with succulently braised sea cucumber, dried oyster (“Hou Si”) and spring fish maw.

Going against the usual norm of overlooking how spacious a restaurant is upon entering, all we saw was these giant vases which were located exactly in front of the main doors. Not sure which part of Feng Shui to cause such arrangement, but I doubt that any patron would be happy if they were to bump into that vases.

(Pan-fried chicken sprinkled with seaweed)
Top that again with crispy and salty dried shrimps.
Quite a special combination to call for Royal Flush signature dish.

Hong Kong Style Steamed Patin
Though the sauce was good, this dish has lacked 2 keys to perfect steamed fish: fresh fish and good timing. What a waste to this Patin fish.

My favourite dish of that night; silky smooth tofu being deep-fried and braised in the sea of dried scallops, top shell, and mushroom.

No particular name in the menu so I would like to name it "Kopiko", the coffee candy because it tasted exactly like one. Royal Flush managed to surprise us with this dessert that doesn't seem to tally with the imperial impression that it is trying to build.

Total damage was RM240 for 6 pax (after 60% discount). I wouldn't come back at a full price of RM100 per pax for the same food. In fact, I'd rather spend my money elsewhere.

I think this is the most expensive fish that i ever ordered in a restaurant. Although considering in the quality of food and the nice environment, i still think the food is expensive, that's why i put it as fine dining category. The waiters here are very friendly and well trained.

Grilled Scallop Bacon is a twist of the western Chinese version of pig in the blanket. This is where instead of wrapping the sausage around the bacon; you will get a huge scallop beneath the bacon. The dish is simply good where it is topped with a light yakitori sauce with it that gives a great blend. It is then furnished with the tip of green colored sauce which is the mint and mustard sauce combination.

Mum wanted dessert, so we decided to have a light one. We chose the coffee jelly dessert. The coffee jelly dessert in The Royal Flush is definitely very enjoyable. Agar-agar with a healthy taste of coffee, it was not too sweet, just nice. The coffee jelly has stripes of coffee and brown sugar in it. Ten layers in all, half of coffee taste and half of brown sugar. Definitely recommended.

The supreme Mo Fa Kor Soup was recommended by the waiter, though I was a little apprehensive as I have only had mo fa kor as asam or dried preservatives. We were served a bowl each, and my bowl contained a piece of melon-like fruit, together with the usual ingredients of chicken pieces, top shell and the like. The soup tasted like any other type of boiled soup to me, nothing really out of the ordinary.

The diced yam with vegetables in The Royal Flush is quite interesting. The diced yam is fried together with some deep-fried fish fillet. The deep-fried fish fillet is somewhat salty. The diced yam and fish fillet is served on a bed of broiled siew bak choy. The siew bak choy is fresh and crunchy, definitely well cooked. Overall a very enjoyable dish, though it was a bit dry, I thought.

The claypot pandan taufu in The Royal Flush is quite nice. The taufu is fried to golden brown, crunchy in the outside and smooth and silky inside, with a hint of pandan taste. The butter prawns in The Royal Flush is definitely scrumptious. Big de-shelled prawns cooked in buttermilk, the gravy is delicious. It comes with a set of six man tau as well, fried to golden perfection. The prawns were fresh and had lots of bright orange roe in it. The slightly salty gravy goes very well with the man tau. The portion is not too big, good enough for six people. Definitely recommended.

The Royal Flush Chicken was quite quite interesting. The chicken feels more like steamed chicken than pan-fried, though. The chicken was cooked till in was brown, and it was served with some soya sauce as the base. Topped with some seaweed, it gives the chicken a bit of a tangy taste. I personally like my seaweed crunchy, so I thought this was an interesting way to serve seaweed. Overall not too bad.

Following the success of not one, not two, but three Tom, Dick and Harry’s Pubs, Hoofed, Ali Muthu & Ah Hock; the 3 baldies (as we call them so affectionately) have done it again! Royal Flush is a brand new Chinese restaurant added to their impressive CVs and boy, did they go all out this time! To call Royal Flush a mere restaurant is probably not justifiable.

Royal Flush oriental exterior (scarlet red, adorned with auspicious gold and woody hues) reminded me very much of the famous Jumbo Floating Restaurant in Hong Kong, with the same opulence. Perfect for Chinese New Year, or basically any occasion. There are different types of room to suit your need, including several VIP rooms and Karaoke rooms. The interior is beautifully furnished with furniture all the way from China. Apparently this only took 2 months to complete, talk about efficiency!

We were served the “Spot On” menu, specially prepared by the Chef to include some of their best dishes. Starting with a little tidbits like these Crispy Fried Wantan Skin with Salmon Flakes. Great to nibble on with our wine, this was an indication of a good feast to follow. Although my gripe is that they are on the oily side, especially at the bottom.

I have to apologise for the lack of individual photos of the dishes because I was too distracted to take any photos of my own, so you'll just have to imagine the dishes!

Grilled Cod 蜜汁烤鳕鱼

I like how they are so succinct with their menu description. But if you are able to read Chinese, you’ll know that the Cod was marinated with Honey, which definitely came through when you devour that soft and flaky flesh. Just divine. The light wasabi sauce helped cutting through the richness. This was definitely my favourite dish of the night.

Dimsum Combination 三色点心

3 delicate morsels placed in the steamer basket came next, consisting of a Siu Mai (Prawn Dumpling, adorned with fish roe), Fish Ball and Xiao Long Bao (Soup filled Pork Dumpling). The fish ball didn’t do anything for me as I’m not a fan usually, but I enjoyed both dumplings. The Xiao Long Bao contained good amount of flavourful soup, although the skin is slightly thicker than I would have preferred.

Twin Cold Combination 鲍鱼片拼蚝干 slight deviated to the original menu, this dish consisted of 2 slices of Abalone (at least I think it was) and Dried Oyster. The abalone had a lovely chewy texture and not at all ‘fishy’ tasting, which was good. I didn’t like the taste nor the aroma of the Dried Oyster though, only because I prefer Raw or Baked fresh oysters. Still, this was a popular dish among the girls.

Next dish was the Scallop Wrapped In Bacon 烧银菜拼带子皇. You simply cannot escape The Bacon when it comes to these guys, and they do bacon dishes exceptionally well. These scallops were as juicy as they come, a result of a happy marriage with the delicious savoury bacon which was slightly caramelised, definitely moreish. I just wished there was more than one on my plate!

The highlight of the night: Yee Sang. This version was quite loaded with a lot of Salmon slices, mixture of fresh vegetables, the dressing was the usual plum sauce with enough amount of tartness to keep it delightfully piquant. After much fussing about, we finally returned to our seats and continued with our feast.

Grilled Pork Ribs 烧烤骨枝 was our next dish. Once again, another straight forward name but definitely not plain in flavours. The sweet and savoury theme continued and these were so tender with just the right amount of fat. Just look at the delicious charred edges. Something that I would happily chomped on for the rest of the night. But of course, portion control is very, very good thing.

Asparagus 烧烤芦笋条 might not be everyone’s favourite but I happen to love them. Simply seasoned and grilled, they retained just the right amount of crunch, and the Bonito flakes gave them the much needed umaminess.

The last savoury dish was the Fried rice with Bacon bits, topped with Abalone 鲍鱼仔炒饭. I don’t often enjoy fried rice because many outlets just do them halfheartedly and called it a day. But I remember the excellent bacon fried rice at Hoofed, and this was just as good, if not better. The abalone was a decadent addition. Of course, by this time I was getting suitably tipsy so a bit of carb was good as sobering agent.

I didn't have the Peanut Glutinous Rice Dumplings but the Double Boiled Bird’s Nest was the big hit. I think all of us happily slurped it clean, not only it was a good palate cleanser; it came with benefits for our skins too. A sweet ending for the evening.

With this delectable meal, The TDH boys have successfully proved that they are in fact far from one trick ponies and I can foresee a great year ahead for them. Once again, thank you so much for hosting us! We all had a fabulous time.
