Tenjin Japanese Cuisine

Tenjin is a high-end restaurant which is located at ground floor of Grand Millennium Hotel. It is suitable for couple to dine in. The environment is elegant and the service is good. I order Sushi & Unagi Kabayaki Zen (RM78). The Unagi looks great, it is tender, the taste is really good. Their sushi is not bad. I have a happy dining experience here. Love the Japanese food so much~~ You must try it!"

My friends invite me to have a lunch at Tenjin. It is also my first time to visit this restaurant. Tenjin is located at ground floor of Grand Millennium Hotel. The concept of Tenjin is a modern Japanese restaurant with a twist, super chic and innovative - the perfect setting to indulge an ultra culinary experience. I order the The Unagi Kabayaki. Unagi is soft and well-cooked. The taste is quite good.

Raw octopus with basil sauce. Seemed more like Italian carpaccio than something from the Land of the Rising Sun, but this supplied slick, slimy satisfaction nevertheless, with a nuanced chewiness and pesto-like fragrance to prevent blandness.

Shiso Shochu Tantakatan. Pressed for time, we couldn't finish this. Thankfully, the restaurant helped us doggie-bag the bottle, enabling us to smuggle it into a neighboring multiplex and take swigs from it while watching mutant heroes battle villains.

Tenjin: Round Two. Raw tuna with "hot-spring egg." Love it, love it, totally love it. It's supposed to refer to eggs that are slowly cooked in hot water, at the same temperature as japan's hot springs (onsen). Half-broiled salmon with anchovy sauce. Nicely executed, with slices of fish that remain raw at the bottom but lightly cooked on top, complemented by a gently savory sauce. Cold green tea for me, hot for you.

Tenjin: Round Two. Foie gras chawanmushi. Can't-fail custard, supplying sublime spoonfuls of livery lusciousness. Never settle for plain chawanmushi if possible! Tuna roll, alongside uni & ikura sushi. No complaints. Soba with duck breast & mountain veggies. A hearty, heartwarming recipe that might represent the pinnacle of Japanese soul food. I'd place tenjin in the top 20 list for japanese outlets in KL. There's just too much competition.

Dining at Tenjin really was a pleasant experience. The decor befits a hotel's image with great interior finishes and spacious seating. I also like the service here which is prompt and attentive. One of the dishes I ordered is their Assorted Nigirisushi, with salmon roe, ebi (shrimp), maguro (tuna), unagi (eel) and hamachi (yellowtail fish). The sushi here is definitely in a class of their own. The hand formed sushi uses only the freshest meats and ingredients and the sweet natural taste is

The sushi here is definitely in a class of their own. The hand formed sushi uses only the freshest meats and ingredients and the sweet natural taste is intoxicating. I especially like the salmon roe with each roe popping when chewed and the sensation of hundreds of exploding roe and the salty taste that follows which when combined with the vinegar flavoured rice is sensational. The other cuts are just as commendable like the hamachi sushi which has a buttery taste so I felt like I was having a dessert. Highly recommended.

I didn't really like the thick batter and was expecting the worst but luckily the prawn flesh tasted really fresh and juicy. This helped a lot with dealing with the oily batter. The texture of the batter is too floury and ended up really killing the dish. The fried vegetables fared a little bit better with less batter and tasted a bit sweet but still bearable.

The light soya sauce for dipping has a nice mildly salty taste which complements the tempura well.

Out of all the famous dishes from Chirashi Sushi Zen, Gindara Teriyaki Zen, Sushi and Tempura Zen, Sushi and Tori Teriyaki Zen or Makunouchi Bento, I have chosen Sashimi and Tori Teriyaki Zen today. The bento set includes a serving of chawanmushi, pickles, misosoup, salad, rice, a serving of ice-cream and Free-flow of Green Tea. The bento set is just enough for 1 people.
